PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE A Message From David Baker, President
David Baker, President
Dear Texas Jewelers Association Members, Friends, and Industry Partners, The past six months have marked a period of renewed energy and meaningful progress for the Texas Jewelers Association. We have seen stronger engagement, expanded education, and clear momentum across our community—proof that Texas jewelers are eager to connect, learn, and lead together. This momentum was on full display at the 2025 TJA Fall Conference in Austin. The event exceeded expectations and served as a powerful reminder of the strength, professionalism, and collaborative spirit of our industry. It was not simply a conference—it was a statement about who we are and where we are headed. A major highlight was the return of GIA educational programming to Texas for the first time in over twenty years. Through the Jewelers of America Impact Initiative, Lisa Kennedy, GG, CG, delivered three outstanding sessions covering natural diamonds, unique colored gemstones, and colored diamonds. These were not just presentations— they were learning experiences that reinforced the importance of knowledge in building trust and confidence with our customers. We also welcomed Ford Saeks, whose AI seminar brought clarity and practical insight into a rapidly evolving area of business. His message was clear: artificial intelligence is no longer optional—it is a tool jewelers can use today to improve marketing, operations, and customer engagement. Security remains a critical concern in our industry, and our member-led seminar emphasized the importance of shared experience. From organized retail crime to cyber risks, the discussion reinforced that we are strongest when we learn from one another. The conference also benefited from the presence of Jewelers of America, connecting our members to national resources and reinforcing TJA’s role within the broader industry. Additional presentations—from responsible sourcing to global colored stone markets which reflected the depth and diversity of today’s jewelry business. Equally valuable were the connections built outside the classroom. The Discovery Room, Awards Dinner, and President’s Reception fostered relationships that strengthen both businesses and our association. The Jewelry Design Competition once again highlighted the creativity and craftsmanship that define Texas jewelers. Beyond the conference, TJA continues to enhance communication, member benefits, and industry resources. These efforts reflect a simple truth: when members see value, engagement grows. What stands out most is not just what we accomplished, but what it represents. Our association is active, relevant, and moving forward. The future is bright, and the momentum is real.
