À l’occasion des célébrations du 400e anniversaire de la présence francophone en Ontario, Denis Vaillancourt, président de l’Assemblée de la Francophonie en Ontario (AFO), a annoncé le lancement de la semaine de la musique francophone en Ontario. Désormais, chaque première semaine du mois de mai sera symboliquement consacrée à mettre en relief la culture musicale de la province.En partenariat avec le Festival Scène Ontario, un cercle d’auteurs-compositeurs sera organisé le mardi 5 mai, à 20h, au Centre national des Arts. Il réunira les cinq artistes en nomination dans la catégorie Meilleur auteur, composi- teur ou auteur-compositeur. (AL) Semaine de la musique francophone Annual Pancake Day on March 28 The Rotarians of Cornwall work together for the benefit of the community, and in support of the international community service initiatives of Rotary International. As proud members of the world’s oldest service club, founded in 1905, they take part in several fun- draising activities. The group is organizing its ever popular annual Pancake Day, which will take place on March 28. In prior years, the event, which also includes a silent auction, has attracted well over 500 individuals. Traffic stop leads to arrest Joey Laurin, 18, of St. Andrews, was arrested on March 12 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on February 14, the man entered a Louisa Street residence, sprayed a 27-year-old man known to him with a noxious substance and took a quantity of cash from the residence. Police were contacted and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 12, the man was taken into custody during a traffic stop and held for a bail hearing.

Twelve culinary students are starting their placement at the Cornwall Community Hospital, Cornwall Hospice, Schnitzel’s, NavCan, Love Love Food and the Harvest Restaurant. The Eastern Ontario Training Board held an event on March 10 to cele- brate the completion of the 16-week long Kitchen Helper. The program gives youth aged 18 to 25 the opportunity to obtain hands-on skills as a kitchen helper. Project manager Kimberly Vass-Lihou stressed that the program has armed students with an incredible opportunity to obtain knowledge and experience. The next phase of the programwill be held next month, in Alexandria. Pictured is Guy Gougeon, a graduate of the program.
