JULIANNA WUETHRICH is majoring in clinical laboratory science who looks forward to working in a clinical lab before applying to medical school. She volunteers for the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter and was involved in the Pathway Partners Program just prior to arriving at UWSP. Tammy Feltz Medical Technology Memorial Scholarship Family of Tammy Feltz established this award when Tammy tragically passed away in a car accident. Tammy was a wonderful person and an excellent clinical laboratory science student. We honor Tammy today with this award. CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE LOGAN HUMPHREY is a clinical laboratory science major who aspires to either attend medical school or to enroll in a physicians assistant program. He is a mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and volunteers at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Logan’s future career goal is to treat patients with neurological disorders to help improve their quality of life. Harriet and Emil Pagel Memorial Scholarship Dr. Emil Pagel established this award in loving memory of his wife Harriet. After Dr. Pagel passed away, the scholarship became the Harriet and Emil Pagel Memorial Scholarship. HOPE MEYER is a clinical laboratory science major and is minoring in chemistry. She is a member of the Biochemistry Club student organization and plays intramural badminton doubles. Hope aspires to work in a hospital laboratory as a medical technologist. Steven F. Schreiner Health Sciences and Wellness Memorial Scholarship Friends and family of Steven Schreiner established this award when Steven tragically passed away. Steven graduated in 2008 and enjoyed working as a medical technologist at Marshfield Clinic. We remember Steven as a kind and gentle person that loved to play his guitar. BRIANNA OLIPHANT is a clinical laboratory science major who is minoring in biology. She is a member of the Health Care Student Organization of UWSP and works at the climbing wall. David and Julie Chitharanjan Scholarship Dr. David Chitharanjan, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, was instrumental in starting the clinical laboratory science program at UWSP. He taught many of our current clinical laboratory science faculty when they were students. JORDAN ILE recently accepted a position as a pediatric speech-language pathologist at the Achieve Center in Wausau. She enjoys working with the pediatric population, particularly ages birth-early elementary. She attended UWSP during both her undergraduate and graduate careers. She served as an officer for the Miles of Smiles Club and NSSLHA and a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage County. She looks forward to serving children and families in Wausau and the surrounding areas. Tufts Graduate Student Scholarship Awarded to provide assistance to graduate students to defray the cost of accepting externship assignments that might not be available because of financial considerations. CAILIN JACOBS recently was elected treasurer for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and joined the UWSP Sign Language Club. She is a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Wisconsin and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County. After graduating with her master’s degree, she hopes to be a speech-language pathologist in an elementary school. Helen Franke Scheidt Outstanding Junior Award Awarded to the student who exemplifies the following qualities: Graduate Potential – Clinical Expertise – Service – Scholarship – Personality – Leadership MICHELE JANZ is a stroke survivor. She helps others by sharing the story about her stroke and recovery. Michele has been a guest speaker in both undergraduate and graduate classes at UWSP and provides support for other stroke survivors. Michele is a great ambassador for our program, a true friend of CSD. Friend of Communication Sciences and Disorders Awarded to an individual who has provided considerable support to the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at UW-Stevens Point. SARAH KINNEY is a non-traditional student and a member of NSSLHA and Miles of Smiles. She plans to earn a master’s degree in speech-language pathology and would like to work with either children or the elderly. Donald Aylesworth-Pauline Isaacson Non-Traditional Student Award Awarded to the non-traditional student who demonstrates maturity, a positive attitude, and commitment to the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND DISORDERS HANNAH FORMELLA is involved in the Student Academy of Audiology on campus and serves as the National Hearing Conservation Association Student Delegate. She especially enjoys interacting with patients and serving those in the Portage County community. Her interests include hearing conservation in musicians, teaching and mentoring students, and diagnostics. In the future, she hopes to continue to make a difference in patients’ lives by helping them hear the world! CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Graduate Student in Audiology Awarded in recognition by their peers for showing enthusiasm and great potential in the Clinical Doctorate of Audiology program. Outstanding Graduate Student in Audiology Awarded to the student who has excelled in the classroom, clinic and overall service to the school. REBA HAUSER , a second-year Au.D. graduate student, currently serves as secretary for the UWSP Student Academy of Audiology and has volunteered in many audiology-related outreach events, such as conducting hearing screenings and facilitating formal academic presentations. She excels clinically with particular interest in audiological and vestibular diagnostics/ (re)habilitation in both adult and pediatric patients. She is looking forward to her off-campus clinical her current career goal is to serve placement in a hospital, as patients of all ages and abilities with their communication needs in a medical setting. Gary Glascoe Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an audiology graduate student who demonstrates exceptional skills in patient interaction and professionalism. ATHARA IBRAHIM is a second-year graduate student in the Doctorate of Audiology program. She is the treasurer of the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) and interested in working as an audiologist in a hospital setting. St. Michael’s Hospital Scholarship Awarded to support a graduate student in Communication Sciences and Disorders who intends to work in a medical setting and demonstrates the characteristics of leadership and scholarship.

NICOLE KLATT has worked as an audiologist in Wausau for many years and consistently supervises our students. She recently opened her own private practice in the Wausau area (Winding Creek Audiology). She is great with patients and our students, and we are proud to say she is an alumnus of our program. Outstanding Practitioner Award Awarded to a UWSP alumnus who is an outstanding speech-language or audiology practitioner in the field. EMILY KOPPERUD is involved in several organizations across campus including being president of UWSP’s Chapter of NSSLHA, vice president of Sign Language Club, and public relations officer of Miles of Smiles. She dedicates time off campus each week volunteering for Marshfield Clinic’s Community Connections Team for community outreach to those in need and helps provide resources across Central Wisconsin. She plans to attend graduate school to work on her audiology degree and hopes to someday work in a Green Bay Area clinic. John Joanis Outstanding Senior Award Awarded to the senior who has excelled the most in all aspects of the program. SIERRA LITWAITIS transferred to UWSP as a junior, specifically for the CSD program. While here she became a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and vice president/secretary of Miles of Smiles. She has been awarded highest honors and has been on the Dean’s List every semester. She will continue her grad program at UWSP. Florence Donermeyer Scholarship Awarded to a senior in the major who demonstrates academic excellence and will be entering the graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at UWSP. MEGAN MUMM is pursuing her master’s in speech-language pathology. She enjoys volunteering at an elementary school helping students with reading, spelling and writing and has done research regarding bilingual students and their language development in English as a second language. In the future she plans to work in a school as an SLP. Al and Jan Noel Scholarship Awarded to a deserving student enrolled in the communication sciences and disorders program who has demonstrated a financial need, who is at the senior or first-year master’s level, and possesses the kind of attitude and overall potential to do well in this field.
KAITLYN OSTROWSKI is interested in working with various populations and having a diverse workday. She really enjoys talking with her patients and building a rapport with them. She has been a part of SAA for three years, and it has been wonderful participating in outreach events and building connections with fellow students. “I am very excited to begin my externship year and further develop my skills within audiology.” Cook-Chappell Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a fourth-year student in the Clinical Doctorate in Audiology program. This award is based on academic scholarship, clinical expertise and performance, and having a pleasing interactive personality. ISABELLA OTT volunteers with the Dysphagia Outreach Project and has experience in palliative and hospice care. She is a member of the Wisconsin Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Association and the National Students Speech Language and Hearing Association. Isabella has worked in long-term care throughout her collegiate career. She plans to work with the adult population upon graduation. Lisa M. Heise Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a deserving, scholarly graduate student who demonstrates financial need and is independent, warm, compassionate and hard working. JULIE SCHROEDER graduated from UWSP with her B.S. in 2009 and her M.S. in 2011. She has worked in skilled nursing facilities and now is an SLP in the Fond du Lac Area School District. Julie’s growing concerns about systemic racism, healthcare disparities, and education funding and support, among other issues, led her to step way out of her comfort zone and campaign in the 2020 Wisconsin State Election for the District 52 Assembly. Julie represents our field well and is an advocate for those with no voice. Outstanding Alumnus Award Awarded to the alumnus who excelled in areas such as program development, service to the school, supervision, publication, research, and service to profession.

MELANIE SMITH is a non-traditional student with four children. She is achieving her long-time goal of completing her master’s degree.“As a non-traditional student I had to wait for the ”stars to align” so to speak so that I could return to school, and I am very pleased that they did. The UW-Stevens Point Communication Sciences and Disorders is an exceptional program and I feel prepared and excited to begin the next chapter of my life.” Tufts Graduate Student Scholarship Award intended to assist graduate students with the cost of accepting externship assignments that might not be available because of financial considerations. MADALYN SOWINSKI is interested in multiple areas of the speech-language pathology field, particularly articulation, language, AAC, and cognitive aspects of communication. Hopes to gain experience working with adults in her graduate off-campus placement, especially with those who have experienced strokes. Upon graduation, her intent is to work in a school setting with either elementary or high school aged students. Teri Witt Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a UWSP communication sciences and disorders sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student who has a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of students. KERI SQUIRES is a first-year graduate student in the speech language pathology program. She completed her undergraduate studies at UWSP, during which she was an active member in multiple clubs including Sign Language Club and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. She currently works as a graduate assistant for the Communication Sciences and Disorders department and is looking forward to a future career as a speech-language pathologist in the medical setting. Nash Family Communicative Disorders Scholarship Awarded to a first-year speech and language pathology graduate student who intends to work in a medical setting.
FAITH VOSTERS is planning to continue her education at UW Stevens Point to pursue a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. Throughout her undergraduate career, she was involved in NSSLHA, Miles of Smiles and worked as a student aid at the UCLCC on campus. Faith was awarded the 2021 Chancellor’s Leadership Award. Danielle Gorectke Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an undergraduate who has been accepted into the upper division classes of the Communication Sciences and Disorders program with the intent to work with children. It is the hope of the Gorectke family that this scholarship will help another student reach their dream of becoming a speech-language pathologist. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Senior Awarded in recognition by their peers for showing enthusiasm and great potential in the Communication Sciences and Disorders major. ALYSON WIEDENBECK has served as a volunteer children’s curling coach and event coordinator for curling clubs across Wisconsin. She, along with a small group of women curlers, started the Curler Outreach Program in July 2020, in which they produce curling-based webinars for an international audience. After graduation, Alyson will work as a school SLP and develop the Curler Outreach Program into a formalized business. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Graduate Student in Speech-Language Pathology Awarded in recognition by their peers for showing enthusiasm and great potential in the speech-language pathology graduate program. Johnson Family Speech-Language Pathology Award Awarded for outstanding scholarship and clinical skills, creativity and insight, a keen sense of humor, and genuine liking of children and their caregivers. Outstanding Graduate Student in Speech-Language Pathology Awarded to the student who has excelled in the classroom, clinic and overall service to the school.

BROOKELYN HEISS is a dietetics major who aspires to become a sports dietician who works with athletes at the collegiate and professional level. She is co-treasurer for the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics and plays for the Pointers soccer team. Brookelyn enjoys volunteering and has served for Feed My Starving Children, Special Olympics and Central Rivers Farmshed. Grace Hendel Dietetics Scholarship This scholarship was established by the friends, family, and colleagues of Grace Hendel in 1996 to honor her at the time of her retirement. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Junior in Dietetics This award is given to a dietetics junior who has demonstrated the strongest academic achievement amongst their program peers. MADELYN KRUMENACHER is a dietetics major who plans to enter graduate school for public health upon graduation. She is involved both on and off campus and has volunteered with local organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and UWSP’s food pantry, the Cupboard. Madelyn belongs to the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics professional organization. Rita Youmans Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors at the discretion of Health Sciences and Wellness faculty to outstanding dietetics or family and consumer sciences majors. SUMMER MANZKE is graduating this May with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and a minor in psychology. Her long-term goal is to become a Registered Dietician who specializes in eating disorders. Summer was the co-president of the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics and was a group leader for various Christian-based student organizations on campus. She served as a Health Scholar for the Community Connections Team for Marshfield Clinic Health System, where she connected patients with local resources for
DIETETICS AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD AND NUTRITION CATHERINE GAGE is majoring in dietetics and plans to become a Registered Dietician. She is involved with the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at UWSP. Catherine is a UWSP Health Scholar in which she volunteers weekly for Marshfield Clinic’s Community Connections Team. She is also a member of the Pointers cross country and track teams. Bessie May Allen Scholarship This scholarship was established by Bessie May Allen, director of the Home Economics Department at UWSP for 39 years. Bessie May Allen shaped the home economics program at UWSP, taking it from a two- year course of study to a four-year program. She was vital in keeping the program alive, bringing it back to campus after the Board of Regents had voted to eliminate it. These awards were granted prior to her death in 1969 and continue to be made possible by her last will and testament. GRACE GALLAGHER is a sustainable food and nutrition major and is minoring in business. After graduation, Grace plans to work within the non-profit sector to reduce food insecurity. She is a member of the Pointers swim and dive team and volunteers as a swim instructor for the Pointer Swim School. Grace volunteers at Central Rivers Farmshed and was a student success ambassador for Watson Hall. Jane Wright Abrahamsen Home Economics Scholarship This scholarship was created to honor the late Jane Wright Abrahamsen, by her husband Martin. Jane was a native of Mauston who received a degree in home economics in 1928 and a bachelors degree in home economics education in 1933, both from the Stevens Point Normal School. She then went on to get her masters degree from UW-Madison in 1936. She then started her professional career by teaching home economics at high schools in Ithica, WI and Ironwood, MI. She then taught in the Montfomery County Schools in Maryland for 21 years, earning an outstanding teacher award from the state of Maryland.

COURTNEY MESSAR is a student of the dietetics 4+1 program, who will earn a master’s degree one year after earning her undergrad. Courtney enjoys playing sports including basketball, softball and volleyball. She is looking forward to applying her knowledge of sports to the dietetics field and work as a sports dietician within a school one day. Fay Finch Clifford Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of Fay Finch Clifford. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a scholarship for students majoring in dietetics or family and consumer sciences education. ERIN OSBORNE is a dietetics major who is also studying to become a Certified Nursing Assistant this summer, a credential that will help her become a well-rounded clinical practitioner. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Erin hopes to apply to a physician’s assistant graduate program. When Erin isn’t studying, she loves spending time with her family and enjoys to write. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Junior in Dietetics This award is given to a dietetics junior who has demonstrated the strongest academic achievement amongst their program peers. CAYLEIGH SMITH CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Junior in Sustainable Food and Nutrition This award is given to a sustainable food and nutrition junior who has demonstrated the strongest academic achievement amongst their program’s peers. NATALIE STEWART is a dietetics major who plans to go on for her master’s degree and become a Registered Dietitian. She is a first-year UWSP Honors student and is involved in the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics student organization. Natalie is also a member of the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics professional organization. Dr. Agnes A. Jones Scholarship This scholarship is available to current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior dietetics or family and consumer sciences students who demonstrate leadership, professional potential, ambition, academic achievement, good character and shows concern for others.
ELISHA WILSON is a dietetics major who looks forward to making positive impacts through becoming a Registered Dietician. She is a UWSP student- athlete for the Pointers cross country and track teams. Elisha is involved in the Botany Club and the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics. She volunteers with Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital as a screener. Judy Lubenow Honorary Scholarship Judy spent 36 years in the dietetics field, many of which were at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. She had a passion for UWSP students in dietetics as she spent time with them throughout her career. In dealing with patients, especially in the dialysis unit, Judy found that they were in inspiration. She hopes that someone can enjoy the profession as much as she did. Creating a scholarship for a student has been a lone time dream for Judy and this scholarship was created to help students who share the same passion for dietetics as she had. MACKENZIE WISDOM is a double major in sustainable food and nutrition and biology, who enjoys working in the campus garden. She also works as a barista for UWSP’s Basement Brewhaus. Mackenzie is leading a research project that is using hemp to study phytoremediation of soil. Her goal after college is to work out west as a biological invasive plant technician. SADIE HOOKER is majoring in family and consumer sciences with a minor in health education. After graduation, Sadie wishes to teach FCS for a rural school district in Wisconsin. She also aspires to one day further her education by obtaining a master’s degree and using her passion and expertise to make positive impacts within the FCS profession. Sadie is the chair-elect for the American Association Family and Consumer Sciences Student Organization. She also served for the same organization as the student outreach coordinator and vice president. Sadie is the co-president for the National Residence Hall Organization and is the Public Relations Coordinator for Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society. John and Catherine Lader Scholarship Catherine (Hill) Lader earned two degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in FCS Education. The education she received at UWSP served her well as a classroom teacher, FCCLA adviser, state supervisor of FCS at the WI Department of Public Instruction, and a member of the National FCCLA Consultant Team. Catherine was heavily influenced by two role models at UWSP-Dr. Fern Horn and Dr. Agnes Jones. Both women were pioneers in the field of FCS and were dedicated to preparing their students thoroughly for a career in FCS. John and Catherine Lader continue to support FCS along with FCCLA and believe every secondary school in the state needs to have an FCS program. Donald and Eleanor Ansay Memorial Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship This scholarship was established by UW-Stevens Point alumna, Karen McCulloch, to honor the memory of her parents, Donald and Eleanor Ansay. The Ansays firmly believed in the value of education. Their four children and several of their grandchildren attended UW-Stevens Point. Karen, herself, earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics Education from UWSP in 1975 and a Master’s of Science in 1978. JESSICA LANGE is majoring in family and consumer sciences with minors in communication and psychology. She dreams of earning her master’s degree in education and hopes to work in higher education’s student affairs. Jessica is a master writing lab consultant and an academic peer advisor for UWSP. She is very involved in student life. Jessica is a member of the University Council on Family Relations, Public Relations Student Society of America, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority and is a UWSP Honors student. Rita Youmans Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors at the discretion of Health Sciences and Wellness faculty to outstanding dietetics or family and consumer sciences majors.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES
ISABELLE BARRINGTON is majoring in family and consumer sciences and minoring in psychology. She hopes to become a child life specialist after college. Isabelle is the vice president of the University Council of Family Relations at UWSP. She enjoys helping people and looks forward to working with children and families on how to cope with the trauma of hospitalization. M.E. Sjolin Family and Consumer Sciences Service Scholarship To award a scholarship to a family and consumer sciences student participating in a service trip or providing service to a community. SARAH CASPER is a family and consumer sciences major who is minoring in sociology. She plans to one day work as a school counselor within Central Wisconsin. Sarah is a member of the Gamma Phi Delta sorority and serves as its historian chair. She is also the treasurer for the University Council on Family Relations student organization and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Jane Wright Abrahamsen Home Economics Scholarship This scholarship was created to honor the late Jane Wright Abrahamsen, by her husband Martin. Breanne enjoys working with youth and is a camp counselor and a play director for Little Fork Baptist Church. Dr. Agnes A. Jones Scholarship This scholarship is available to current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior dietetics or family and consumer sciences students who demonstrate leadership, professional potential, ambition, academic achievement, good character and shows concern for others.

RYAN LEHMAN is a family and consumer sciences major who is minoring in business administration. In addition to this scholarship, Ryan has been selected as the College of Professional Studies Dean’s Award of Outstanding Junior in FCS. He is looking forward to becoming a licensed FCS teacher and helping students learn important life skills. Ryan has held numerous officer positions with the Stevens Point Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Fern Horn Memorial Home Economics Scholarship This scholarship is awarded based on academic ability, professional involvement, plans for home economics teaching or as work as an extension home economist, particularly in the Youth Program, competence as a classroom teacher or extension home economist, and when appropriate, service as a cooperating teacher for UWSP home economics education majors. SOPHIE SMITH is a family and consumer sciences major who aspires to become a child life specialist. She is the first president of UW-Stevens Point’s new Child Life Specialist student organization and has attended various national conferences. Sophie inspires those around her and has led several of her peers to join her in pursuit of professional development. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Senior in Family and Consumer Sciences Recipients of this award are selected based upon character, academic merit, service/contributions to the field, and commitment to the profession. MADDI TRIPLETT is majoring in family and consumer sciences with a minor in health education. She is involved as a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at the national, state and regional levels. Maddi also belongs to the National Society of Leadership and Success. In her free time you can find her sewing masks that she donates to a nursing home in her hometown. John and Catherine Lader Scholarship Catherine (Hill) Lader earned two degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in FCS Education. The education she received at UWSP served her well as a classroom teacher, FCCLA adviser, state supervisor of FCS at the WI Department of Public Instruction, and a member of the National FCCLA Consultant Team. Catherine was heavily influenced by two role models at UWSP-Dr. Fern Horn and Dr. Agnes Jones. Both women were pioneers in the field of FCS and were dedicated to preparing their students thoroughly for a career in FCS. John and Catherine Lader continue to support FCS along with FCCLA and believe every secondary school in the state needs to have an FCS program.
KELLY YEAKEY is majoring in family and consumer sciences and minoring in health education, who plans to become an FCS teacher after graduating. Kelly is the president-elect for the Stevens Point Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She belongs to the UWSP Honors program and made the Dean’s List fall of 2020. Fay Finch Clifford Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of Fay Finch Clifford. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a scholarship for students majoring in dietetics or family and consumer sciences education.

ALYSSA BRAZIER is a health promotion and wellness major and is minoring in coaching. She has endeavors of earning her graduate certificate in Health Coaching and to one day become a certified health coach. Alyssa is the publicity chair for UWSP’s National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and was on the Dean’s List in 2019. Paul Staddler Honorary Scholarship Paul Staddler was a graduate of UWSP in 1982 with a degree in physical education and health education. Both Paul and his wife Doris, who is also a UWSP graduate, worked their way through college by way of loans, jobs, and occasional scholarship. This scholarship was a life goal of Paul’s was to assist future UWSP students with their college expenses. CPS Dean’s Award – Outstanding Junior in Health Promotion and Wellness This award is intended to recognize excellence in academic achievement and involvement for current seniors. Selection criteria include academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular activities above and beyond expectations of the major, and leadership potential. MADELEINE KINSCHER will be graduating may with a degree in health promotion and wellness and a minor in biology. She served as the co-conference coordinator for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter. Madeleine conducted research on the perception of body image among UWSP students and presented results to faculty that encouraged action with improving inclusivity. She also served for the American Public Health Association as their Affiliate Affairs and Public Health Week intern. Madeleine was also awarded the 2021 Chancellor’s Leadership Award. COLIN BARKER is a health promotion and wellness major who is graduating this May. He plans to continue his education in the M.S. in Athletic Training program at UWSP. Colin competed for Pointers wrestling team and is an officer for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter. Sherri Hall Outstanding Senior in Health Promotion Scholarship This scholarship was created to recognize excellence in academic achievement and involvement in an outstanding senior majoring in health promotion. JOY BECKER is majoring in health promotion and wellness and is committed to personal and professional growth. She is a leader among her peers and has lead mission trips and fundraisers for her church’s youth group. Joy is a prayer team leader to UWSP Cru student organization and works as a resident assistant for UWSP Residential Living. Health Promotion and Wellness Faculty Alumni Scholarship This scholarship was established through gifts from the former School of Health Promotion and Human Development faculty and alumni and is awarded to exceptional current sophomore, junior or senior. BRIANNA BRALICH is a health promotion and wellness major who is minoring in psychology. She plans to further her education after graduation and enter an accelerated nursing program so she can one day become an RN. Brianna is the co-president of the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and is a member of the Pointers cross country and track and field teams. She is a leader UWSP’s Summer Running Camp and achieved all-academic honors for having the highest GPA combined in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. When Brianna isn’t studying or running, you can find her volunteering as a Psychology peer mentor and delivering meals to students quarantined for COVID. Jane Jones Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to current sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in health promotion and wellness with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

ERYN MURPHY is majoring in health promotion and wellness who endeavors to advocate for emotional health while contributing to community health projects. She is the co-conference coordinator for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and is a teacher assistant for the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. Eryn also competes for the UWSP women’s volleyball club team. Jack Lane Memorial Scholarship The scholarship is intended to assist a worthy, current sophomore, junior or senior health promotion and wellness major. ANDREW SAUL will be graduating this May with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Wellness. While completing his undergraduate degree, he partnered with The Hiden Opponent, a non-profit that raises awareness for student-athlete mental health. Andrew advocated mental health across three colleges and represented more than 50 athletes. He hopes to work as a wellness coordinator and health coach. Andrew was awarded the 2021 Chancellor’s Leadership Award. John and Barb Munson Scholarship John Munson served as the associate dean for the former School of Health Promotion and Human Development. This scholarship is awarded to the current outstanding senior in health promotion and wellness. HAILEY STEFANIK is a health promotion and wellness major who plans to become a certified health coach. She is the secretary for the National Wellness Institute-Student Chapter and is part of the National Honor Society – Phi Eta Sigma. Hailey serves as a volunteer for the Marshfield Clinic Health System Community Care Connections Team, where she connects under- served patients with community resources. Bud Steiner Memorial Scholarship Oliver (Bud) Steiner was a 1965 graduate of UWSP who was one of the original three student managers of the then new University Center in the early sixties. After graduation he continued his employment with the Centers and was the long time Assistant Director of the three University Centers, mainly responsible for daily operations and facilities. Around 1980, he became one of the Assistants to the Assistant Chancellor of Student Life, responsible for all the business functions of the campus auxiliaries (Centers, Housing, Dining). He served in this capacity until his death in 1986. Bud was killed while riding his bike across Canada. He was trying to ride 5,000 miles and raise $50,000 for scholarships.
ABIGAIL VANDER HEIDEN is majoring in health promotion and wellness and minoring in psychology. She is a member of the National Wellness-Student Chapter and is an honor student who frequently makes the Dean’s List. Abigail hopes to become a health coach certified in cardiac sonography. Security Health Plan Health Coaching Scholarship Security Health Plan has established a scholarship fund to award health- related majors at UWSP who successfully complete the Security Health Plan Coaching internship. This program was established in 2019 and is offered in partnership between UWSP and Marshfield Clinic Health System. Award recipients must be in good academic standing, have an interest in health coaching for a career, and meet or exceed all expectations within the program.

AARON SENNER is a health science – pre-physical therapy major who looks forward to working as a physical therapist assistant upon graduating this May. He is an active volunteer for both the Portage County Humane Society and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association. Health Sciences and Wellness Faculty Excellence Scholarship This scholarship was made possible by generous donations from faculty and staff of the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. GRACE VAN HANDEL is a health science – pre-athletic training major and minoring in business administration. She is a member of the UWSP Sports Medicine Club student organization and has made the Dean’s List every semester while at UWSP. Grace competed for Pointers track and field team her freshman year. She hopes to attend graduate school for athletic training and work for a D1 football team. CHRISTOPHER BLACKMON is a health science – pre-occupational therapy major who is minoring in psychology. Upon graduating he plans to attend graduate school for occupational therapy and hopes to work in a public health setting. Christopher serves as a leader for UWSP’s Black Student Union and is a peer mentor for the LEAP Program that helps new students orient to campus life. He is involved in research involving the effects of peer mentoring for minority Dr. Robert Zach’s five sons created this scholarship in memory of their father. Three of the brothers were directly connected to UWSP – a professor in Chemistry, a physician with Health Services, and a member of Academic and Career Services. Zach M.D. Memorial Scholarship LEXI DUTTON is majoring in health science – pre-athletic training. She hopes to attend graduate school at UWSP for her master’s degree to become a licensed athletic trainer. Lexi received the Dean’s Distinguished Achievement Award in 2018 and is a member of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi. Steven Blocher Memorial Athletic Training Scholarship Friends and family of Steven Blocher established this award when Steven tragically passed away in a boating accident the summer before his senior year. Steven excelled at tennis and was a civil engineering student that attended UWSP and then UW-Platteville. We remember Steven today with this award. DANE MOORE is finishing up his bachelor’s degree in health science – pre- athletic training. He will be starting his graduate degree with UWSP’s athletic training program this coming fall. Dane aspires to work for the advancement of concussion science. He is a member of the UWSP Sports Medicine Club student organization and has frequented the Dean’s List for his academic achievement. Judith Ann Herrold Athletic Training Professional Scholarship Dr. Judith Herrold dedicated 34 years of service at UWSP with her teaching, advising, faculty governance, mentoring of new faculty, and student advocacy. Her thoughtful scholarship continues to support athletic training students today.

SHANIA SCHALLOCK is an RN to BSN major, a licensed nurse who is finishing up her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is a dedicated wife and mother of four children. Shania has learned about her passion for helping others and teaching and hopes to attend graduate school for nursing to one day teach in higher education. Lenice Christine Merrill Eskritt Scholarship Lenice Christine Merrill Eskritt was a wife, mother and grandmother much beloved by her family. Her sensitivity and compassion to her fellow beings served as an example to all who knew her. She was very intelligent but was unable to continue her education beyond high school. She valued education and encouraged her six children to pursue post-secondary education in order to give themselves as many opportunities as possible. This scholarship is meant to honor her memory and her potential. It is her family’s desire that someone with similar circumstances to Lenice’s be financially assisted by this scholarship in order to develop their potential through education. STACY TAYLOR is a pre-nursing major who aspires work as woman’s health nurse practitioner. She has made the Dean’s List frequently throughout her collegiate career and holds a FEMA Certification since 2019. Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital Clinical Scholarship This scholarship was made possible by a generous donation from Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital.
NURSING
KATIE BABCOCK is a Registered Nurse within a neonatal intensive care unit who is finishing her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was awarded the 2019 Dean’s Award – Outstanding Continuing RN to BSN Nursing award. Katie volunteers with the Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon at Marshfield Clinic Hospital. She also helps raise awareness for pregnancy and infant loss through the Children’s Hospital, Together Learning to Cope Remembrance Walk. Kelly Garr-Dawley Scholarship This scholarship is available to encourage non-traditional female students to continue their education by helping provide them with financial resources to pursue a college degree. Kelly Garr-Dawley was a non-traditional UWSP student who died in a tragic automobile accident. This award is in memory of Kelly. DAWN CAHILL is a Registered Nurse whose been working in health care for 14 years and is completing her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is a proud mother of two and is passionate about life-long education. Dawn was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Mary Jo Tepp Boyne Memorial Nursing Scholarship Mrs. Mary Jo Tepp Boyne was a life-long nurse that passed away in an automobile accident in 2011. Mary Jo’s husband created this scholarship in her memory with the hopes that the recipients will enjoy as fruitful and compassionate nursing career as Mary Jo.
