&/#3&'r#3*&'4 AMÉLIORATION DES EAUX USÉES À LIMOGES Le conseil de la municipalité de La Nation a attribué, le 29 avril dernier, le contrat pour la construction d’une nouvelle installation de traitement des eaux usées, à Limoges, à la firme Thomas Fuller Construction C. Limited. Les travaux ont commencé début juin. Ceci, dans le but d’amélio- rer et d’optimiser la lagune, de fournir une capacité de traitement supplé- mentaire et d’améliorer la qualité de l’eau. Selon la municipalité de La Nation, la construction devrait être terminée d’ici juillet 2020. — Annie Lafortune NOUVELLE STATION D’AMBULANCE Le Village de Casselman aura un nouveau site pour sa station d’ambulance. Les Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) signeront un bail de trois ans pour louer les anciens locaux des travaux publics du village. Le site, à l’heure actuelle, est considéré comme une solution temporaire jusqu’à ce que les CUPR puissent trouver un emplacement permanent et plus approprié. – Gregg Chamberlain Casselman ont reçu l’aval du comité consultatif d’urbanisme des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR), à condition que le promoteur crée une deuxième voie d’accès d’urgence au site. Casselman Development Ltée prévoit construire 650 unités résiden- tielles, du côté sud de la voie ferrée. La phase 1, qui comprend 200 unités, est en cours.– Gregg Chamberlain annoncé le retrait de certains billets de banque dès le 1er janvier 2021. Cela s’applique aux billets de 1 $, 2 $, 25 $, 500 $ et 1000 $. Nearly 600 men recently came together for dinner, a comedy show and live and silent auctions, raising $68,000 for 30 different community organizations. On June 13, the donations were presented to local charities at the Metcalfe Curling Club. As a result, the Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation received $5,000. The donation was directed to the hospital’s General Equipment Fund for the purchase of equipment like a new Phototherapy Bilisoft LED light, to help treat babies with jaundice. Since 2007, Shroomfest has donated $38,000 to the WDMH Foundation. “It was a great evening and we are so grateful,” noted Cindy Peters, the WDMH Foundation’s Manager of Direct Mail & Events. “We are so appreciative of this gift, and of Shroomfest’s ongoing support over the years. Seize lauréats de plusieurs écoles de Prescott et Russell recevront une bourse du programme Relève emploi du Centre de services à l’emploi (CSEPR) afin de poursuivre leurs études postsecondaires. Dans le but de contrer l’exode des jeunes de Prescott-Russell vers les grands centres et également afin d’assurer la relève dans la région pour les métiers et professions en demande, le CSEPR a instauré en 2018 une bourse à cet effet. La bourse s’adresse aux jeunes finissants du secondaire qui veulent poursuivre des études postsecondaires dans un métier ou une profession en demande dans la région. « Cette année, plus de 50 jeunes de Pres- cott-Russell ont tenté leur chance pour obte- nir une bourse, a déclaré Caroline Arcand, directrice générale du CSEPR Chaque année, plusieurs jeunes de 12 à 18 ans quittent OPUSFCFMMFSÊHJPOEF1SFTDPUU3VTTFMM/PVT avons des données qui nous le confirment. » Le CSEPR a procédé au dévoilement des lauréats de son projet de bourse Relève emploi de 2019, le lundi 24 juin, au Collège d’Alfred. Enjoy the journey, cherish it, because before you know it, it’ll be over. It’s on the journey that we make mistakes and learn and grow as people. It’s where we make memories, and try new things. The journey is what makes the destination rewarding.”

E.2, tel qu’amendé (la “Loi”). Le règlement adopté sera en vigueur pour une période de cinq ans à moins d’être amendés ou révoqués avant la fin de ce terme. IL EST ÉGALEMENT DONNÉ AVIS que toute personne ou tout organisme peut interjeter appel devant le Tribunal d’appel de l’aménagement local (TAAL), en vertu de l’article 257.65 de la Loi, à l’égard du règlement, en déposant auprès du secrétaire du conseil un avis d’appel motivé énonçant les motifs pour l’opposition au règlement administratif au plus tard le 6 août 2019 . That’s the year he won his first ever gold medal. His win also cemented his local fame; he had won the first gold medal for the Petrie Island Canoe Club. “It was the Ontario Championship,” Benoit recalls. “It was a two-kilometer race and there were about 20 kayakers. It was one kilometer one way, then we had to turn and do another one kilometer.” The race ended up being a nail-bitter, for Benoit did not have the best of starts. “It was a really close finish,” he admitted. “I wasn’t doing too good at first, but I managed to pass everyone coming back. I usually have a strong finish. I constantly build up my speed.” The young man is what his father calls a tactical racer. Taking an active part in the sport can be quite expensive, as the Davies learned. Paul points to a nearby kayak, sitting on two lawn chairs. “That was Ben’s first kayak,” he said. “It used to be owned by Caroline Brunet, an Olympian. It was $1,200 and it was used.” The young man’s father points to a little fin like portion found under the boat. “It even has a rudder, so Ben can turn it,” he explained. “It’s turned with the feet.” The young man moves a small rope inside the canoe to make the rudder turn from side to side. Benoit’s newest kayak, which is also used, cost $2,000. But that’s not even half of it. The young man lifts his long paddle and promptly takes it apart in two pieces. “I can adjust how long I want it or in what angle I want it,” he said, expertly adjusting the small metal middle portion of it. A paddle can cost more than $700. “Mine is heavier than most paddles because of the medal block,” he pointed out. “Some are made of plastic, but they’re more prone to break.” When asked what goes through his mind, the young man ponders for a little while before answering with a smile, “Paddling harder than everyone else.” According to him, it’s not so much the waves, which are nearly
Fifteen-year-old Benoit Davies isn’t afraid of getting wet or being sunburned. The young man is quite literally Rockland’s only flatwater sprint kayaker. “Chase your dream, train hard and give it all you’ve got,” he answers when asked if he has any words to offer other athletes his age. Already boas- ting several medals, some of them gold, as well as ribbons, Benoit is on the road to becoming quite a successful kayaker. In doing so, the young athlete has had to train for several hours a day. “In the summer, I train during the week, from about 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the morning, then from about 6:00 at night to 8:30 a.m.,” he said, his proud father standing nearby. “On weekends, I train on the water.” The young man also follows a strict, high protein diet. “Over the course of winter, he gained about 20 pounds, and that’s muscle,” Paul Davies, patriarch of the family, added. “He eats five times a day, devouring high calorie and high protein meals or shakes, even his snacks are high energy. He spends time each day doing mental kayak races where in his mind he is winning, losing, or is neck and neck with an opponent, and he imagines what he must do to be first. In the doorway to his bedroom is a pull-up bar where he does some pull ups, every time he enters or leaves.” A member of the renowned Rideau Canoe Club, Benoit began his paddling adventure back in 2013. “My mother is the one who asked me if I wanted to take a two-week class at the Petrie Island Canoe Club,” he explained. “I took it and really enjoyed it. Then I went back the year after that.” From there, Benoit took part in the full summer camp, which lasted the better part of July and August. The young man does point out, however, that he only started competing on a professional level in 2016.

reappearing on his face. “But I haven’t tipped in a long time.” Benoit aspires to not only reach the Olym- pics, but to also promote the sport he loves with a passion. “I am going to try to go the furthest I can,” he affirmed. “I would also love to become an ambassador or a coach.”

OMNIUM DE GOLF AU NOM DE PIERRE CHARETTE
C’était la troisième édition de l’Omnium de golf Pierre Charrette, le 6 juin dernier. Et c’est au club de golf Casselview, à Casselman, que les 144 joueurs se sont lancés sur le vert dans le but d’amasser des fonds pour la Société canadienne du cancer. Ce tournoi a été organisé par MLS Insurance Brokers Inc., en mémoire de leur collègue Pierre Charrette, décédé en 2015 d’un cancer. Ce dernier a toujours été très engagé dans la communauté d’Alfred-Plantagenet. Depuis les 15 dernières années, MLS a amassé plus de 175 000 $. Et, cette année, un montant de 26 400 $ vient de se rajouter grâce à cette journée de golf. On reconnait, dans la photo, Mathieu Charrette, fils de M. A Russell trucker who purchased a Lotto Max lottery ticket while in Niagara Falls had the surprise of his life when he checked it with his cellphone on June 7. «I’ve never won big before,» shared Eric Blanchette, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. Blanchette discovered he had won $61,913.70. The man was visiting Niagara Falls for the weekend when he purchased his winning ticket. He checked his ticket on the OLG Lottery App when he realized he won big. «I was stunned,” he said. The 46-year old man plans to pay off some bills with his windfall. —supplied photo
