GOLF

Handicap Posting i n f o r m a t i o n

are your clubs ready for the golf season ?

As the 2018 golf season gets underway, the Handicap Committee reminds all players that in order to maintain the integrity of our handicap system, they should post every round played, except when playing alone (new beginning January 2016). Scores should be posted for any format, even when you pick up without holing out or when you skip holes. This includes playing less than a full 9 or 18 holes. If a player does not hole out, he should assign himself the score for that hole that he would have most likely have achieved, or, if he skips a hole, his handicapped score for that hole. Guidelines that detail how to post rounds are posted in the golf section of the website. We also remind players that the Handicap Committee monitors the handicap system and has imposed handicap penalties when players fail to post regular play and/or tournament scores. For additional handicap information and the requirements for maintaining a handicap at ANCC, click here .

When was the last time you had your clubs re-gripped? 18 months is the absolute maximum you should wait to change your grips because slick or worn grips can have a negative impact on your game, like driving on worn tires. Maintaining proper grip pressure is essential in making a smooth swing, but worn grips require tighter grip pressure which inhibits the swing. Worn grips are can be slippery in wet conditions. Degradation is gradual, so you may not even realize how worn they’ve gotten. Stop by either Golf Shop for more information or to have one of the Golf Professionals take look at your grips.

SENIOR GOLF LEAGUE OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA (SGLNV)

The Senior Golf League of Northern Virginia was founded in 2004 to promote friendly competition between Senior Golfers at Country Clubs in Northern Virginia. For more information, click here , or contact the Team Captains, Roger Pitkin at Roger@Pitkin.Name or Lynn Wessman at lwessman@comcast.net .

Golf Course Reminders As spring slowing creeps out of that long cold winter the golf season is getting into full swing. As we get started this season our Arlington and Fairfax golf staff asked to remind everyone of a few things: • The no mow areas on the golf course are by design. They are not marked as hazards so any ball that enters a no mow area and is not found is a Lost Ball. While playing your round, if you stroke a ball into the now mow areas, please play a Provisional Ball to help with the pace of play. • Though the grass in the now mow areas is shorter during the spring, it is not intended for golf cart traffic. You may enter now mow areas in search of a ball, but please DO NOT drive golf carts into these areas. • Please observe the golf cart rules for the day. Every effort will be made to maintain the 90º cart rule as often as possible. However, when carts are restricted to paths, please keep all wheels on the paths. • The fairways at Arlington are Patriot Bermuda grass. When taking a divot please fill the divot with sand. There is no need to replace the divot as it will die. The grass will fill-in within a few days. • Please be sure to repair your ball marks on the green as a June through August The 2018 Flighted and Senior Flighted Match Play Tournaments are individual match play events. All eligible players will be placed in flights of 8 based on their June 1, 2018 handicap index. All flights will play off the low handicap of the pairing. There will be a men’s and women’s division. Click here for Flighted Tournament details and to sign-up beginning Tuesday, 1 May and here for Senior Flighted Match Play. Flighted Match Play T o u r n a m e n t S couple others at the same time. A properly repaired ball mark will keep our greens looking spectacular all season.

SENIOR STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2018 Senior Stroke Play Championship is a two-day event schedule for Saturday, June 2 at Fairfax, and Sunday, June 3 at Arlington. The Championship includes a Men’s and Women’s Divisions. For complete tournament information and to enter beginning May 2, click here .

Tournament Entry/ Standard Rule of Priority

(Revised January 18, 2018) Entry into all ANCC Club Golf Tournaments is governed by the following order of priority unless specifically modified and published for an event. a. Eligible Members may enter a Club Golf Tournament at any time during the published registration period for that event. b. Eligible Spouses may enter a Club Golf Tournament, either individually or as part of a team, if the field limit has not been reached during the first seven (7) days of the published registration period for that event. c. When permitted, eligible Junior Members may enter a Club Golf Tournament, either individually or as part of a team, if the field limit has not been reached during the first 21 days of the published registration period for that event. d. Participation by a properly entered Spouse or Junior Member will not be limited or restricted based on the time or day of the scheduled round(s). e. Entry into ANCC Club Golf Tournaments requires players to have a current, verifiable handicap, established and maintained at ANCC or another creditably affiliated club (as defined by the USGA Handicap System). Players without such may be denied entry or may be subject to playing from a scratch handicap (0).
