2025 Annual Meeting

Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2025

and added to Stars & Stripes, the Smoking Room underwent a successful “small refresh,” and the names of two rooms in the clubhouse were changed to honor exceptional military officials who were also Club members. Regarding the room name changes, the Williamsburg Room was changed to the Vandenberg Room, after Gen. (Ret.) Hoyt Vandenberg, who was the U.S. Air Force’s second Chief of Staff, as well as the President of the Club. He was also a Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient. The Arnold Room was changed to the King Room, after Fleet Admiral Ernest King, who is the first 5-Star Admiral and was a member of the Club. In conjunction with the ANCC Foundation, the Club will host room dedication ceremonies during 2025-2026, and we hope you will attend these events! Additionally, during 2024-2025, the H&E Committee continued to advance several larger H&E- related capital projects at Arlington. First, is the Eisenhower Wing (i.e., 1924, Eisenhower Lounge, Sun Room) Project. Both the Eisenhower Lounge and Sun Room are underutilized spaces by the membership, and the seating at the 1924 Bar is woefully inadequate. This project would address those deficiencies, as well as members’ dining priorities as expressed in the 2022 Membership Survey for the 1924 Bar to be expanded, the elimination of the distinction of formal and informal dining, and the development of a blended upscale look and feel throughout the Eisenhower Wing. The project presently entails an entire redesign of the Eisenhower Wing (that includes expanding the 1924 Bar) to make it a more cohesive and inviting space. During 2024- 2025, outside architects developed and continue to refine conceptional renderings of such a redesign based on the H&E Committee’s input and feedback. Second, is the Women’s Locker Room Project. The Women’s Locker Room is the same as it was when the Clubhouse opened. In the 2022 Membership Survey, members expressed displeasure with the significant lack of parity in terms of size and amenities between the men’s and women’s locker rooms. This project presently entails renovating/expanding the Women’s Locker Room to address the deficiencies and create more parity. Third, is the Stars & Stripes Project. As we all know, Stars & Stripes is very popular, yet it is undersized and has a capacity constraint. The 2022 Membership Survey revealed that members want Stars & Stripes to be expanded to create a more fast-casual dining and bar space. This project presently entails expanding Stars & Stripes into the Group Fitness Room area to create more seating for dining, seating for lounging and watching sports-related content on additional TVs, an indoor/outdoor feel, and an area for a golf simulator and sports bar- type games (e.g., a billiard table, darts). More information regarding these projects will be shared with the membership in Town Halls during 2025-2026, and we hope going forward you will support these projects, all of which are also in line with industry trends! Finally, I’m pleased to report that at long last (July 2025), Arlington County issued the Club the building permit for the Side Patio Project. If you recall from my 2023-2024 report, this project entails the construction of an exterior stone patio with permanent fire pits and seating areas where currently the moveable fire pits and Adirondack chairs are near the Fort Richardson interpretative display. (And there will still be grassy area for cornhole and for younglings to play.) By the time you have received this Annual Meeting packet, we hope to have shared further details regarding the design and timing of the project. ______________ I close by stating that it has been an honor and privilege to serve as the H&E Committee Chair for 2024-2025. I want to thank the 2024-2025 H&E Committee for their commitment to our Club and their outstanding and collaborative work in furtherance of enhancing/maximizing the member experience consistent with the ANCC Strategic Plan: Board of Governors CDR Erin Alexander (USN and liaison from Racquets Committee), LTC Rebecca Gansca (USMR and liaison to Planning Committee), MAJ Richard W.
