Multi-Color Buys Constantia Label Division by Greg Kishbaugh M ulti-Color Corporation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Labels Division of Constantia Flexibles (Constantia Labels) from Constantia Flexibles GmbH for ap- proximately $1.3 billion, payable in cash and stock. The combined annual revenues and EBITDA of the two busi- nesses will be approximately $1.6 billion and $300 million, re- spectively. The combination brings together Constantia Labels’ Food and Beverage business with Multi-Color’s Wine and Spirit, and Home and Personal Care platforms, in addition to Healthcare. Additional growth opportunities for Multi-Color exist in Home and Personal Care by utilizing Constantia Labels’ European opera- tional footprint and assets. Growth op- portunities for Con- stantia Labels exist in Food & Beverage and derive from Multi-Color’s U.S. operational footprint and assets. “The acquisition of Constantia Labels marks a major milestone in the evolution of Multi-Color,” said Nigel Vinecombe, Executive Chairman of Multi-Color.“We are bringing together complemen- tary talents in markets and geographies, diversifying our business and creating a global leader with a transaction that is financially attractive, which will better help us serve our customers.” Cost synergies are anticipated to reach $15 million (or 2 per- cent of acquired revenues) by Fiscal Year March 2020 through a combination of procurement, Selling, General and Administra- tive Expenses, and manufacturing efficiencies. As an example, Multi-Color will utilize Constantia Labels pressure sensitive substrate manufacturing capability in the United States

FDA Delays Nutrition Facts Relaunch The US Food and Drug Administra- tion (FDA) has announced that the launch of an updated “nutr ition facts” panel on foods, developed dur- ing the Obama administration, will now be delayed. The deadline for which the food in- dustry must comply with the new la- beling will be pushed back for an undisclosed time, the Associated Press reported. The new nutrition panel was de- signed to make it easier for con- sumers to see how many calories and added sugars a product contained. Specifically, the revamped label would make information on calorie counts more prominent, make serving sizes easier to understand, and point to the amount of added sugars a food or drink contains. Current labels only cite amounts of total sugar in a prod- uct, which might include naturally oc- curring sugars, the AP said. The original FDA deadline for com- pliance was July 26, 2018.The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and other food industry groups had asked for an extension to 2021.

Bobst M1 Press Installed At APR Demo Center Expanding its role in the narrow web industry, All Printing Resources (APR) has installed a Bobst M1 flexo label press at the company’s Glendale Heights, Illinois, technical center.APR’s technical center is the only demo facility for Bobst narrow web presses in North America. The new, 14-inch, eight-color Bobst press is de- signed for high-definition flexo jobs requiring fastest changeover. The shortened web path results in mini- mum waste, set-up times and high registration toler- ances, according to the manufacturer. The M1 press comes with Bobst’s SnowBall con- verting technology, said to minimize matrix breaks during production due to the short distance between stripping and rewinding. The APR demo press also showcases Bobst’s Laser Set 360 degree pre-register and automatic registration system.

Labels Unlimited Adds Mark Andy Digital One Pressure sensitive label and hang tag manufacturer Labels Unlimited has recently installed a Mark Andy Digital One in a push to bring digital label produc- tion in-house. The company was first introduced to the Digital One solution at Labelexpo Americas 2016 in its hometown of Chicago, Illinois and signed a pur- chase agreement on the show floor. Preceding the press acquisition was a two-year period in which the company searched for a digital technology that would accept unprimed material and would not re- quire ancillary machinery for lamination and finish- ing. The Mark Andy digital hybr id press was subsequently installed in the first quarter of 2017. Mark Andy Digital One is a standalone digital label press with more than 40 units sold and in produc- tion. A dry toner CMYK printing process, multi-use flexo station, and inline converting and finishing functionality support growing demands for short runs and affordable decoration. The Label Manufacturers’ Association of India (LMAI) will host its fourth conference, July 20-23, at the Jaypee Palace Hotel and Convention Center in Agra. The theme of the event is “Innovation Simpli- fied.”The conference is expected to draw at least 450 printers and suppliers from the label industry. LLT Labels Celebrates 20th Anniversary LLT Labels, Stow, Ohio, recently celebrated its twenti- eth anniversary of operations in June. Two decades of experience have developed LLT Labels into the indus- try-leading bar coding and labeling solutions provider. In 1997, Laser Label Technologies opened its doors in Stow, Ohio, with a focus on laser labels for high- speed and ink-jet printers. After six years establishing a regional reputation serving businesses across Northeast Ohio, Laser Label Technologies rebranded to LLT Bar Code & Label in 2003, complete with a new logo. This represented a shift in focus to total bar coding and labeling solutions. In 2010, LLT Bar Code & Label made its entrance into ecommerce with a new website focused on all label printing products, incorporating new technology such as mobile computers, mobile printing and software. In August 2016, the company went through one more re- brand plus a new and improved website launch. LMAI Indian Conference To Focus On Innovation

The SCIENCE of flexo rollers and sleeves Skilled flexo printers know any variation in temperature, humidity, substrates and a host of other conditions will affect the quality of their work. Cleanliness of lines, accuracy of colors and softness of shades can make or break a job. But if you want to maximize profits, you need to optimize uptime, speed and quality. The anilox rollers and sleeves in your presses are only as good as the science behind them— the technology of precision . ARC rollers and sleeves are built to exacting OEM dimensions, with cell geometries engineered for efficient ink usage and precise volumes. Contact ARC today or visit our website to learn more about what the science of flexography from ARC International can do to enhance your graphics.

Allied Pacific Adds Nilpeter FA-4* Flexo Press Philippine packaging company Allied Pacific has in- vested in an 8-color Nilpeter FA-4* flexo press with de-/relamination, UV lamination, cold foil, and Quick- Change Die Unit. The investment is a result of an in- creased demand for value-added flexible packaging.

Allied Pacific is one of 50 subsidiaries in the giant RD Corporation. Since 2005, the company has spe- cialized in the printing of labels, pouches, boxes, wrappers, and much more, within the food segment. The company made the investment decision after Ann Chua, General Manager of Allied Pacific, saw Nilpeter’s FA-4* running candy sachets at Labelexpo Europe’s Packprint Workshop in 2015. Ann Chua, General Manager of Allied Pacific Pack- aging Solutions Corporation, in front of their new Nilpeter FA-4*. With 57 years of label printing expertise, SouthAfrican Rebsons Labels, a family-owned business, has moved into digital label printing with its purchase of a stand- alone Nilpeter Panorama, the first of its kind inAfrica. In 1963, Rebsons Labels purchased its first printing press and started to produce labels, thus becoming a self-adhesive label manufacturing company. “In addition to being a loyal Nilpeter customer for more than 40 years,” said Rebsons’ owner Benny Friedmann, “we assessed the digital market during a 2- to 3-year period, and decided that the standalone Panorama was by far the best solution for us. An im- mediate benefit is our vast production of generic la- bels with variable data for a large supermarket chain customer – the Panorama allows us to reduce pro- duction time and stock holding of variants, and en- ables us to print on demand and improve cash flow”. Rebsons purchased its first Nilpeter press after see- ing it displayed at the Drupa exhibition in 1972. First Nilpeter Panorama Press Installed In Africa
