Recruitment ads and online listings are generally placed under captions like “Maids,” “Housecleaning,” “Cleaning,” “General Labor,” and “Domestic.” Targeting your marketing specifically at segments of your potential employees, such as retail or wait staff who could find the change in hours appealing, can also bring a profitable return on your ad. 1.16.3 Plan Your Strategy for Recruiting Home Service Professionals After determining the recruitment opportunities available to you, develop a plan that will create a constant flow of applicants. Following a recruitment strategy designed to be implemented when the labor market is very tight and it is challenging to find HSPs. When that is not the case, the procedures discussed above should be sufficient. Just as in marketing for customers, when the labor market is tight you must actively pursue applicants with the following points in mind: Plan Ahead : Failure to have a sufficient number of applicants at any given time will result in frustration, interruption of your marketing program, and scheduling complications. Schedule time on your calendar each week that you devote to recruitment activities. Develop a Calendar : Outline and schedule on a calendar basis (an “at-a-glance” calendar is effective) specific recruitment activities. It is easier to use online job listings to develop employment inquiries, but you must pursue other sources (of better-qualified applicants) as well. The plan should indicate the commitment of time involved to keep the applicants coming from each specific recruitment activity. A planned schedule is of no benefit unless you put it into action. Make the schedule now. Determine Your Personnel Recruitment Budget : How much expense is required? As much as it takes to be effective! Just as no business can exist without customers, no service business can exist without employees. Calculate Recruitment Costs : Determine the anticipated cost of classified employment ads in each online service and/or newspaper you intend to use (subscription, non- subscription, newsletters, etc.), media used, number of lines, and cost per insertion/day. Determine the cost of recruitment materials to be used in the potential recruiting areas shown above. Determine the cost to distribute recruitment materials (both dollars and man-hours). Establish/commit to a minimum number of recruitment contacts each week that you initiate in “networking” for employee applicants. Schedule : Commit dollars and time/activity commitments for the first year of recruitment. Follow these steps:
