Practical Methods of Personal Work FOR DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH T. C. HORTON

the tendency to credulity and belief in all phases of spirit manifestation# and of the occult. Spiritism is as old as man. It is the belief that the spirits pf the dead can and do communicate with the liv ing. It is natural for the living to long to know all they can about the dead, and this fact furnishes the foun dation for the development of this cult. Its modern revival is comparatively recent, originating in a village near New York City, in 1848, with the Fox sisters. It has had a rapid growth, and has found adherents throughout the civilized world. Before “ The Great War” there were nearly half a million of these people in Paris alone, and in France it was said there were nearly three million men with the brand of Satan upon them. Nearly a hundred papers and magazines are published in the interests of this cult. It will not do to deny the fact that some unseen power must be recog nized in connection with Spiritism, but that this power is of God none can believe who hold to the inerrant Scrip tures. That it must be of Satan, there fore, goes without question. We must recognize the foe (Eph. 6 :1 2 ): *

. “ D/F PRAYER CIRCLES” In these perilous days of apostasy from the faith once for all delivered, prayer is still the greatest weapon against all the devices of the enemy; and we rejoice in the requests that are coming in for names of K. B. subscrib ers in a designated district to be used in forming a "Defender of the Faith Prayer Circle.” A postal card to the Editor-in-Chief will bring a prompt response. Let us have a Prayer Cir cle in every neighborhood where there are two or more members of "The King’s Business Family," and also send in your requests for prayer. We shall be glad to print them on this page, that our great army of "Defend ers” may be praying for each other, and for us. A host of new subscribers have been received in response to our "Special Oiler” as announced in the July issue, in which we offered a copy of “ Scrip tural Inspiration vs. Scientific Imagin ation” to every subscriber who would send in five trial subscriptions at 50c each, and we are calling your atten tion to it again that you may get your copy of this splendid book before the supply is exhausted. The eleven addresses which this volume contains furnish the very best possible “ Ammu nition” for defending the faith, for every one is by an outstanding Fun damentalist. Remember, too, that The King s Business itself is a whole "arsenal in itself, and every new subscriber means that at least one more believer will be "armed and armoured” for the con- CRead the letter from the Michigan evangelist on this page and then send for a supply of sample copies, sub scription blanks, advertising slips, etc., and be ready always to say a good word for your Bible Family Magazine. Many times a letter, enclosing some of the descriptive printed matter and a subscription blank, will prove a very effective means of introducing the magazine to some friend who is want ing just the help it will give them. "Where there’s a will there’s a way” you know, as is being abundant ly demonstrated by the little mother of eight children whose story we told in the July issue. She is a “ 100 per cent Defender”— being a faithful soul- winner, has organized a Prayer Circle and is always on the lookout for new subscribers. Request for Prayer F. B., a missionary in W. China, writes: "Will you please ask the K.B. Family to pray for our beloved Chris tians that the devil may be defeated. At present, my wife and I are the only ones working among the Miao of Szech uan. We also have a Chinese work as well, so are kept busy. But we re-

joice in it all, believing that the Lord is coming very soon. Oh, that we may not be ashamed before Him at that time!” LESSON TWENTY-FIVE Spiritism Spiritism is one of the most dan gerous and devilish of the false cults. There are two diverse tendencies ram pant in the world today; one is the absolute denial of the supernatural and the miraculous, and the other is

A Michigan evangelist renews his subscription, and says: “I was a subscriber to The King’s Business for s e v e r a l years, but felt I must get along with fewer periodicals and the K. B. was one of those dropped. However, recently, a free copy of the March magazine reached me and as I looked through its pages and found so many help ful things, I came back to my first love and decided to re-sub scribe. I can get along without it, but I realize that I cannot get along as well. I have be e n studying the enlightening “ Prac tical Me t h o d s of Personal Work.” So they appear in book form?-I would like to have them in one volume for further study and use.”
