STATE OF HEALTHCARE RECAP
The Midland Chamber hosted its inaugural State of Healthcare, presented by ExxonMobil, bringing healthcare, education and business leaders together to discuss the changing needs of our community and the future of local care. Midland Health President & CEO Stephen Bowerman delivered the keynote, highlighting the significant growth Midland Memorial Hospital is experiencing. Baby deliveries have increased 27% over the past five years, while emergency room activity has grown more than 22%. As Midland continues to grow, that demand is shaping plans for expanded capacity, services and healthcare resources. Bowerman then joined Russell Meyers, CEO of The Beacon; Dr. Brian Schroeder, Regional Dean of TTUHSC Permian Basin; and Gran Shinwar, CEO of Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center , for a panel facilitated by Midland Chamber President & CEO Evan Thomas . The conversation explored pediatric and behavioral healthcare, workforce development, preventive care and the importance of collaboration. Panelists discussed the expansion of specialized services, efforts to develop a strong pipeline of local healthcare professionals and opportunities for employers and community leaders to support better health outcomes. Throughout the program, one message remained consistent: meeting Midland’s growing healthcare needs will require continued collaboration among healthcare, education, business and community leaders. YPM LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON
Young Professionals of Midland welcomed Mayor Lori Blong for its Leadership Luncheon on September 10, where she shared insights on Midland’s continued growth, economic development and leadership. Mayor Blong highlighted AST SpaceMobile’s expansion into Midland, which is expected to bring approximately 1,800 jobs to the community and further diversify the region’s economy beyond the energy sector.
As Midland’s first female mayor, Mayor Blong also reflected on female leadership and the importance of women having a voice in shaping their communities. Thank you to Young Professionals of Midland and Mayor Blong for an insightful conversation on leadership and the future of Midland!

I began my career with Midland Shell Federal Credit Union in 1987, serving as Vice President of Human Resources and Marketing. When the credit union opened its membership to the community in 2005 and changed its name to Members Financial Federal Credit Union, I continued in that role until 2014, when I was promoted to President and CEO—a position I proudly continue to hold today. In 2007, I joined the Midland Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador and member of the M-Squad. Throughout the years, I have had the privilege of serving in several leadership roles within the organization, including Chair-Elect, Secretary, and Social Director.
My involvement with the M-Squad has been especially meaningful to me, and I have been honored to be recognized as Volunteer of the Year in both 2010 and 2016. Serving the Midland business community and giving back through the Chamber has been a rewarding part of my professional journey.
