Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said. “If we calculate our overall population that’s eligible, 12 BOEPWFSXFMMTUJMMCFBUQFSDFOU8FSF moving very well.” Meanwhile, Dr. Roumeliotis clarified that BWBDDJOFTVNNBSZPO UIF&0)6XFCTJUF showing 100 percent of residents in the area aged 70 and over had received at least one dose may not be accurate. He said the demographic data had been taken from the 2017 census population estimates, and the number of residents in that age range had since increased in the area. Dr. Roumeliotis said the number in those age ranges was closer to 94 to 95 percent. About 84.1 percent of those aged 64 to 69 had received a dose, followed by 25.8 percent of 50 to 59 year olds, 17.4 percent of 40 to 49 year olds, 17 percent of 30 to 39 year olds, 8.7 percent of 20 to 29 year olds, and 0.8 percent of those aged under 20. Meanwhile, those who received a first shot of AstraZeneca between March 10 and March 19 could opt to receive a second dose during the ten-week interval during the week.

Another 27,000 vaccine appointment spots have been made available in mid- June across the region, as the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) nears its 100,000 th dose. 5IF&BTUFSO0OUBSJP)FBMUI6OJU &0)6 added more places last week for the period between June 7 and June 26. As of the end of last week, almost 95,000 doses had been administered across the region, with about 50,800 more expected to be delivered by the end of June. Vaccine booking eligibility extended to all adults in Ontario last week, while 12-to-17- year-olds became eligible on Sunday morn- ing at covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/. &MFWFOZFBSPMETEVF UP UVSO UIJT ZFBS could call the booking number at 1-833- 943-3900 for more information. i8FMMCFBUPWFS <CZUIFFOEPG June], and if you look at 140,000 over our adult population, we’ll be at over 83 percent BUUIBUUJNF u&0)6.FEJDBM0GàDFSPG)FBMUI

&/#3&'r#3*&'4 ENROLMENT PROJECTION The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBE0) expects to have more students on its enrolment list for the 2021-2022 school year. CDSBEO staff presented trustees with enrolment projections during the May 18 meeting. The report indicates 190 more students for the CDSBEO, most of those numbers at the secondary school level. The CDS- BEO may also have 69 more students in its elementary program. No projections are possible for the Kindergarten program with the uncertainty created by the pandemic. CDSBEO is preparing for both in-person and distance-learning education options for the start of school in September.

HIGH COST FOR LEGAL INTEGRITY AT MUNICIPALITY

GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca

Hawkesbury council has learned that there is a high price for legal intergrity. Council reviewed and received a report during a recent session on all the financial costs related to the investigation by former Integrity Commissioner John Saywell into complaints against Mayor Paula Assaly of interference in administrative operations, harassment of some senior staff members. The final bill for the Town of Hawkesbury comes to $424,959.38. More than half of that, almost $260,000, covers various legal expenses for the muni- cipality, including the cost of the Saywell investigation, and legal fees related to dis- missal of several senior staff, which was part of the investigation. Most of the remaining cost, amounting to more than $158,000, covers contract settle- ments for senior staff who were dismissed and personal leaves for medical reasons related to the issues that were part of the Saywell investigation. The last expense for the municipality is $7500 for professional management coaching for Mayor Assaly to fulfill one of the approved sanction conditions in the Saywell report. An administration report to council recom- mends that future municipal budgets should include allocation of funds to cover any legal or professional costs for the town as a result of any other possible future integrity

—photo d’archives

commission inquiries. Council has also received a report during its May 10 session from the current inte- grity commissioner Jean-Jacques Lacombe dealing with his investigation of allegations against Councillor Yves Paquette of Code of

Conduct violations. The legal costs for the municipality of that investigation are not yet determined. Lacombe’s report recommended sanc- tions against Councillor Paquette that included a reprimand for his actions and

also public apology from him during a public council session for his behaviour. Council reviewed the report but there was no support among council members to accept the recommendation for sanctions against Payette.
