ARE YOU READY FOR WINTER ? Dix tâches pour préparer votre voiture à affronter l’hiver
La saison froide frappe à nos portes… votre véhicule est-il prêt à y faire face? Non? Pour éviter les ennuis de voiture cet hiver, accom- plissez les dix tâches suivantes avant de prendre la route : 1. Posez vos pneus d’hiver et vérifiez que la pression est bonne — n’oubliez pas la roue de secours; 2. Changez l’huile si celle-ci n’est pas adaptée aux rudes conditions hivernales; 3. Ajoutez de l’antigel (environ 50 %) dans le liquide du radiateur; 4. Vérifiez que les essuie-glaces sont en bon état et appropriés pour l’hiver; 5. Faites le plein de lave-glace et déposez-en un bidon plein dans la voiture;
6. Assurez-vous que le système de chauffage et le dégivreur de la vitre arrière fonctionnent bien; 7. Inspectez la batterie en quête d’éventuelles — et indésirables! — traces de corrosion; 8. Testez les phares et les clignotants avant et arrière; 9. Lubrifiez les serrures et munissez-vous d’un antigel de serrure; 10.Préparez une trousse de survie complète (pelle, vêtements chauds, nourriture non périssable, trousse de premiers soins, etc.) à conserver dans l’auto. Eh voilà, votre voiture est fin prête pour l’hiver : vous n’aurez donc qu’à vous soucier de la déneiger adéquatement avant de prendre le volant!

It is a well-known fact that most ATV acci- dents are preventable, which is why expe- rienced quad riders know that fun and safety go hand in hand. Here are a few tips that ATVers should always follow. First of all, it goes without saying that drivers have to follow the current rules and laws of the area they are planning to ride in. Things to pay attention to include the minimum age for driving an ATV, being required to take a driver training course, having valid insurance, knowing speed limits, and knowing ATV trail signs. Obviously, the number of pas- sengers permitted by the ATV manufacturer should always be respected. Another important safety concern is that both the driver and passengers should wear officially approved helmets at all times. If the helmets do not have visors then safety
glasses should be worn. It is also important to wear suitable gloves and shoes. Depen- ding on the area, other equipment may also be legally required. Find out all necessary information from the appropriate authori- ties. Ice = caution During the winter, one of the most common dangers associated with driving an ATV is the presence of water, especially at the beginning and end of the season. To avoid these dangers, always stay on marked trails, particularly at night. Always bring a basic survival kit with you, no matter how far you’re planning to go. The golden rule of sharing the road also applies to the trails, so don’t forget to pay special attention to the safety of hikers, cross country skiers, snowshoers, and other ATV riders.
