Atlas PT. May Newsletter

The Atlas Crew and a few of our Plus One’s enjoyed a night out together one Friday after work! It was the first visit for most of us to Nick’s Fish House in the Port Covington Area of Baltimore. Yummy, yummy seafood and lots of laughs hanging out off the clock, just before the big Game of Thrones premiere. For those who follow the show, there were a lot of different theories for how it will all end!

One of Lauren’s gifts to her husband Brent for his birthday was their first visit to the Hippodrome in Baltimore to see the Book of Mormon musical comedy. They said it was really funny, and the humor they expected from the writers of South Park! In Sanner Family fun this month, Kathryn’s Pre-K class made leprechaun traps. On a day the schools were closed, Grammy and both girls had fun recycling boxes, an egg carton, popsicle sticks, and whatever shiny objects they could get their hands on for their traps. Kathryn set hers at school and Samantha’s was set at home.

She had a great view from the top of the Empire State Building, visited Grand Central Station, and attended the musical, Kiss Me, Kate!

(continued from outside)

The Leprechauns really made a big mess! Sadly, they got away again this year after leaving behind green footprints and snacking on some green food. The girls got a big kick out of the shambles! TJ told them he caught one once and they can’t wait to try again next year! TJ is a Type O Hero! He donated blood for the first time in January and soon discovered that with only 6.6% of the population, he has O negative blood, making him a very special Universal Donor. He has sucked up his dislike of needles to contribute, and went again 56 days after his first visit! A

friend mentioned that people with Rh-negative blood types have special traits including elevated intuition. We have noticed his Extrasensory Perception (ESP) and this makes perfect sense! Kathryn and I had a great day visiting the Science Center for Pi Day (3.14 π). The Science Center celebrates with complimentery pie! It was a nice afternoon and we joined some classmates for a visit to a pirate ship themed playground in historic Federal Hill. It was the perfect wrap up to our Pre- School Field Trips!

Happy 7th Birthday to Samantha! We celebrated together with the family, mermaid cupcakes and a piñata she decorated. The party ended with riding her new bike (with a kickstand and banana seat per her request) on Gran and Pop’s street! We also had lots of laughs playing “7-up,” a game where you guess who tapped you while your head was down.  She’s been telling everyone that she is “technically 7” since Kathryn turned 5, two months prior, so she’s super happy to be living it! TJ and I attended our quarterly PT clinic owner meetings for a long weekend in April. This trip

took us to Phoenix, AZ. As lifetime east-coasters humidity is just a given. Some of the meetings spilled into outdoor spaces, and 77 degrees with no humidity made such a difference. What a treat! We enjoyed our dinner field trip to Los Reyes De La Torta in Tempe, at a Mexican restaurant we saw on TV, for some authentic tacos! - Dr. Laura Sanner, Founder of Atlas PT

The quadratus lumborum (QL) muscle starts at the pelvis and runs up to the lowest rib. It stabilizes the pelvis when you’re upright and also helps support the core of the body when breathing. The QL muscle is one of the primary sources of lower back pain. Symptoms include tightnes and discomfort in the lower back often described as a deep aching pain, but it may also be felt as sharp, depending on the cause. Try this stretch to target the QL muscle: Cross outside leg over inside leg. Outside palm up, reach over head. Push hips away from wall. Hold 20 seconds. Repeat 2 times per side, 2 times per day.

“My experience with Atlas and Physical Therapy in general far exceeded my expectations. Had I been better informed about PT, I would have come much earlier when trying to manage my pain. What brought me to PT was an email I received from Transformations inviting those with back pain to an Atlas presentation. Quite honestly, this has been a life saver for me. I started out with pretty much constant pain. I was not able to stand for 10 minutes without having to sit down. Standing in line at the grocery store was a major task. Walking minimal distances was also challenging. I am now able to stand for an hour, as well as walk much longer distances. A huge thanks to Sam and Megan for getting me on the road to recovery!” - Felicia P. 4 6 8 ete the crossword puzzle below Name: 1 2 3
