There was blood everywhere.” The other female llama was also attacked but not as severely. “I can’t tell if the males have any injuries because of their thick coat.” Schlegge has been living on Pattee Road for 20 years and says this isn’t the first time the dogs have caused problems. When the attack happened in October, he called the neighbour who owned the dogs and told him about the situation. “He admitted it was his dogs and acknowledged that they had blood on their mouths when they got home,” explained Schlegge. “He said he shot one of them, but a week later, theywere back. Police have toldme to shoot the dogs if I see themonmy property, but that’s not the way to deal with this.” Schlegge said he is afraid that the dogsmay soon attack a person or a child. “Once a dog gets the taste of blood, they always come back,” he said. “If a child gets attacked, theywon’t survive. I don’t understandwhy nothing has been done about this. Why hasn’t he been fined?” Mayor Robert Kirby saidhe had paid a visit to Schlegge after the attack to discuss the problem, and council clerk Linda Rozon said she had called the owner of the dogs who assured her he had killed one of the dogs himself in order to take care of the problem. However, Schlegge said the problem continues. Rozon said there must be proof before a fine can be given to the owner of the dogs. Korno suggested having a dog catcher and police monitor the area more often, however, mayor Kirby said there were dog catchers and
police in the area and it would be impossible to have one parked there full time. “If you see a dog, call us,” said Kirby. “I think we’ve tried to work with you, and we will continue to work with you to resolve this problem.” The council agreed that setting a trap for the dogs might be the solution. “We could set a trap on your property and catch them,” said Kirby. “It’s a no-kill trap so you don’t have to worry about your other animals.” Schlegge said he hopes something gets done before something worse happens.
A small groupof concerned citizens attended the East Hawkesbury councilmeetingMarch 9 tomake a complaint about several dogs that have been running around loose, attacking livestock and scaring residents. “The dogs have been running all over Pattee Road,” said Nancy Harvey. “They sit at the end of our property, growling viciously andmilling about.” Harvey said therewere two blackishGerman Shepherd-type dogs, and one small white and black dog. “I opened the door and, if it hadn’t been for the snow, theywouldhave come across my yard,” saidHarvey. “I was a little bit upset.” Ria Korno said the dogs have been around her property as well. “We’re almost afraid to go into our backyards,” she said. “I called (the owner) and he said it wouldn’t happen again, but the dogs are still running around. It’s scary.” The owner could not be reached for comment. Carl Schlegge said his llamas were attacked by three dogs leaving incredibly large wounds that required veterinary assistance. “My llamas have never spent the winter in the barn,” said Schlegge. “But I can’t leave themoutside with these dogs running around.” Schlegge said one of his four llamas required extensive veterinary care and that his partner is nowunable to go into the barn because seeing the injured llamas is too heartbreaking. “I heard screaming coming from the field. Trahan indique qu’il ne voit pas de problème à soumettre une demande le cas échéant. Le concept initial duMonument comportait trois statues pour
Attribution du contrat pour Lansdowne Le contrat de reconstruction de la rue Lans- downe et de l’installation de l’aqueduc entre les rues Hampden et Tupper à Hawkesbury a été accordé à l’entreprise Normand Excavation Inc., soit le plus bas soumissionnaire parmi les sept entreprises intéressées. Une résolution en ce sens a été adoptée, le lundi 9 mars, par les membres du conseil municipal. Le contrat a été attribué pour la somme de 2 128 906$, avant les taxes. Les travaux, qui devraient commencer au début du mois de mai, sont évalués à près de 2,5 millions $ a indiqué Guillaume Boudrias, le coordonnateur des projets d’immobilisations de la Ville,. Hawkesbury recevra 2 millions $ en subventions pour ce projet, soit le total de deux octrois provenant du Fonds d’infrastructure pour les petites municipalités rurales et du Nord et du Fonds ontarien pour l’infrastructure commu- nautaire, volet axé sur une demande. Le projet sera échelonné sur une période de deux ans. Les travaux principaux sont prévus pour l’été 2015. L’étape finale des travaux se déroulera l’été suivant. - Chantal Quirion représenter une famille, un homme, une femme et un enfant. Celebrating vintage snowmobiles in VKH
There were some pretty nice vintage snowmobiles that joined the Vintage Snowmobile Run, which started off at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds March 8. The day starts off with a breakfast at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds organized by Lois Howes and Willou Bernakie.
Several vintage snowmobiles as well as some newer ones got together March 8 for the annual Vintage Snowmobile Run. Organizer Scott Allen, seen here with daughter Becky, says he put the run together just for something to do. “Lots of people had old machines and nowhere to go.” Last year, the run attracted more than 60 snowmobiles with some people coming from as far as Ormstown and Val d’Or. The group travels approximately 25 km through snowmobile trails to a family farmon Greenland Road where they stop for coffee and hot chocolate, then head back. “It takes about an hour or so. Everybody likes it. We don’t go fast, just poke along,” said Allen. “We have prizes for oldest machine, and oldest rider.”

The end of an era for SLC?
Several former and present journalism students gathered at St. Lawrence College (SLC) in Cornwall to celebrate the birthday of program director Terry Tinkess, seen here at the far right.The journalismprogramhas been suspended at SLCmaking this the last year the program will be offered. “Everybody likes to be remembered,” said Tinkess. “It’s always better before it’s on a tombstone.” Alumni from the graduating years of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, traveling fromHawkesbury, Brockville, Cornwall, and Akwasasne, as well as students from this year, gathered to visit with their favourite professor and remember the work and the fun in the program. “It’s been fun, putting it all together,” said Marc Benoit, current journalism student and student union president. “Seeing the alumni and getting a sense of the history of the program has been great.” Tinkess says that perhaps there will be one more celebration before the program says good-bye for the last time.
A Wee Irish Fest Vankleek Hill, with the help of Excellent Events, will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in a big way. St. Pat’s is a tradition celebrated in Champlain Township with green beer, Irish food, Irish music, a parade, and so much more. The festivities start Friday, March 13, with the crown- ing of the King and Queen at the Windsor Tavern. The royal couple will be selected by random ballot. A steak supper, green beer, and great music will accompany the crowning event. The annual St. Patty’s Parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. Starting at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute, the parade will wind its way through the village of Vankleek Hill, stopping in front of The Review offices on Main Street. Floats may be entered into the parade at no cost and a prize will be presented for the best float. After the parade, there will be a celebration at the Windsor Tavern. At 2 p.m., green beer and finger foods will be available. The King and Queen will be present to select the best costumes for men, women and children with prizes for the winners. And on Sunday, an Irish brunch, Irish stew and beer will be available at Beau’s Brewery. And of course, Irish music will be playing throughout the weekend. The Wee Irish Fest is presented by Excellent Events, the Windsor Tavern, Beau’s Brewery, and Cham- plain Township. Men have an International Day as well. November 19 marks International Men’s Day, promoting boys’ and men’s health, gender equality, gender relations, and highlighting positive male role models.
Every year onMarch 8, people around the world observe International Women’s Day. Festivities around town and around the world celebrate women’s achievements while calling for greater equality and safety. The Prescott-Russell’s Coalition to End Violence towards Women held their third International Women’s Day celebration at theRoyal CanadianLegion in Hawkesbury onMarch 5, offeringmultiple free activities, yoga, scrapbooking, ameal and information on personal care and local services. Organizations highlighting women’s safety, health, fitness and well-being were on site to give information, advice and free samples. Necessary services such as Valoris, Victim Services, Maison Interlude, Centre Novas, and many more were handing out pamphlets and giving information on their services. The event also housed several health and wellness booths from local establishments such as Pour Elle, a women’s gym that will be holding an open house onMarch 15 and 16; Le Chenail Cultural Centre; Chakaura, which offers a number of self development programs and workshops; Reflexology, offering cancer coaching, massage, and wellness; L’Amie de la santé; naturopath and rejuvenation therapy; and more. “Different organizations put together a committee to put this event together,” said Linda Smith from Victim services. “We put on four or five different events each year, includingMarche des Hommes andMarche des Femmes. dans le cadre d’un rassemblement qui se déroulait dans le cadre de la Journée de la femme, le samedi 7mars dernier, au centre communautaire de Saint-Isidore. Lynda Gagnier-Séguin sourit lorsqu’on

A blood donor clinic was set up at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) March 5 with plenty of donors waiting their turn to help a stranger. “Our goal is 72,” said Louise Chartrand, charge nurse at the clinic. “We reach our target easily whenwe come here.” The clinic comes to VCI roughly three times a year. “I come across people every other day that need blood or a transfusion,” said Korina Tkachenko, one of the blood donors at VCI. “I can, so I do. It makes sense.” The clinic will be set up at École élémentaire publique Nouvel Horizon on May 22 and back at VCI July 17.
