Danielle Saldivar - “Music and its Correlation to Learning New Information” (poster session) The purpose of this study is to investigate how music listening affects us as we try to learn new information. For the study participants were separated into three groups, group 1 being classical music, group 2 pop music and group 3 was no music. Each group was assigned the same task, the only difference was the kind of music they listened to and group 3 having no music. The groups had 2 minutes to memorize 10 nonsense words (ballyhoo etc.) while in the background either classical or pop music was played and the participants of group 3 memorized in silence. At the end of the 2 minutes the list of nonsense words was picked up and the participants had the task of writing the words they remembered. The hypothesis set out to test if listening to music while completing a task helps or hinders our ability to efficiently complete them. The results are TBD.
