CHAMPLAIN TOWNSHIP PROMOTES TREE PLANTING

Champlain Township council would like to see more trees planted in the area and is promoting a municipal tree planting project. “Any spare piece of township land, we’re going to try and plant trees on those and make the township look better,” said Mayor Gary Barton during the May 16 afternoon launch of the project. “It (ceremony) is a symbolic gesture, and we’ll be encouraging future councils to plant more trees.” The official start of the project involved planting 500 mixed seedlings of white cedar, red oak, and white pine on a small plot of municipal land along Route 34.
