Three job-hunting strategies to adopt without delay
3. LEARN A NEW SKILL If you find that a lot of the jobs that interest you require a skill you don’t have, ask yourself if you can acquire it. For instance, if a position demands that you be knowledgeable in search engine optimization (SEO) or Microsoft Office, you could consider completing an online course in one or the other (there are a number of reputable courses that can be completed in a short period of time that will provide you with a certificate upon finishing). Be sure to adopt these strategies and it likely won’t be long before you’ve landed your new position.
According to a poll published by Forbes, for each job opening that gets advertised there are approximately 120 people who will apply for it. So how to stand out from the pack? Try adopting these three strategies: 1. CUSTOMIZE YOUR RESUME Sending out targeted resumes and cover letters to pro- spective employers is a must. This manoeuvre requires indicating how your particular qualifications bear on the specific hiring criteria and demonstrating how your experiences align with the job. In an employer’s eyes, a targeted resume has an edge over a generic one. 2. USE YOUR NETWORK

Enfin, évitez tout ce qui est inutile : allez droit au but en utilisant des termes évocateurs et bannissez les formulations passe-partout qui n’indiquent absolu- ment rien sur vous!
Apparaissant normalement en premier, soit tout de suite après l’en-tête, l’objectif de carrière figure parmi les sections facultatives du curriculum vitæ. Alors, devriez-vous l’inclure dans le vôtre? Et, si oui, que faut- il y indiquer? Voici quelques pistes de réflexion. L’INCLURE OU L’OMETTRE? Dans certains cas, l’objectif de carrière ajoute peu au CV qui, on le sait, doit être court et concis. Ainsi, si vous occupez le même type de poste depuis 15 ans et que vous postulez pour un travail similaire, il peut être
inutile de mentionner que vous désirez continuer dans cette voie, d’autant plus que la lettre d’accompagnement vous per- mettra d’énoncer vos intentions. Par contre, si vous avez eu divers emplois (traducteur, réviseur et conseiller en communications, par exemple), il devient perti- nent de préciser au recruteur vers quoi vous souhaitez vous diriger. Par ailleurs, si vous dépo- sez une candidature spontanée, l’employeur saura au premier coup d’œil dans quelle chemise
