The upgrade is needed to comply with new federal guidelines. The town will purchase the upgrade and have it installed at a cost of $110,000 by Crysis Ltd., which supplied the original system. L’étude, préparée par Colliers Project Leaders, a exploré trois options EJGGÊSFOUFT QPVS MF CÄUJNFOU DPOWFSUJS l’installation existante, démolir l’installation FYJTUBOUFQPVSFODPOTUSVJSFVOFOPVWFMMF PVTJNQMFNFOUWFOESFMJOTUBMMBUJPOFUOF QBTQPVSTVJWSFMFQSPKFU La structure existante est en bon état, à l’exception de quelques modifications RVJEFWSBJFOUËUSFBQQPSUÊFTBàOEFSFT - pecter les codes de construction actuels. The Legion is helping Hawkesbury’s regional hospital with expansion of a special medical diagnostic program. The Royal Canadian Legion and the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation, through the Hawkesbury 472 branch, presented a $10,000 donation to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital Foundation (HGH). The money goes towards expansion of the endoscopy diagnostic pro- gram at the hospital. An endoscope is a type of diagnostic scanning device that uses a fibre-optic camera to look inside a person’s body to determine if there are any polyps, blockages,

This year’s snowmobile event was ori- ginally scheduled for February 11 but the warm and rainy weather prior to the date had reduced the amount of snow cover on the trail route. Organizers rescheduled the event to February 25 in anticipation of colder weather and more snowfall to improve trail conditions. More than a dozen snowmobilers congre- gated at the parking lot of the Place 1967 restaurant and motel in Plantagenet for the morning start of the rally. They all returned by 4 p.m. to celebrate an enjoyable tour around Prescott-Russell and a successful campaign for autism awareness.
The weather Saturday morning was sunny and frosty and just perfect for the ASD United Snowmobile Ride for Autism. The annual recreational snowmobiling event raises both funds and awareness for programs that support individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families in the Prescott-Russell region. The annual snowmobile rally is the winter equivalent of the ASD United Flotilla for Autism that takes place during the summer.

COUGARS AND VOLANT SPLIT PLAYOFFS SERIES OPENER

Hill last Friday night were Frederick Durocher- Bourdon and Jérémie Tessier. Game Two Sunday evening at their temporary home base in Hawkesbury’s Robert Hartley Sports Complex, the Cougars ensured that the series between them and the Volant would last for at least five games. Vankleek Hill beat Gatineau 6-3 in a game that saw power- play goal after power-play goal fly into the nets at each end of the rink. Assistant captains John Mahoney, Joshua Desjardins, and Eric Skyba teamed up on a power-play opening to put Vankleek Hill on the scoreboard first during the first half of first period. Mahoney punched in the puck, with Desjardins and Skyba assisting. Cougars Captain Mikael Bissonnette added another power-play goal to Vankleek Hill’s benefit at the period mid-mark with help from Skyba and Andy Lightle. Nine minutes from the end of the period, coaches for both teams had pulled their goalies to add an extra man on the ice for scoring. The “even strength” situation finished in the Cougars’ favour with the team’s third goal of the game courtesy of Thomas Kelly, assisted by Brenden Easter- brook and Jonathan Campbell. With goalies back in the nets, the period finished up at 3-1 on the scoreboard courtesy of a power-play goal for Gatineau during
the last three minutes by Lois Flansberry, with assists from Étienne Champagne and Benoît Milloy. Second period saw the two teams trade goals, with the Cougars getting theirs first on a power-play opportunity for Bissonnette early in the play. Assisting him were Desjar- dins and Skyba. Close to the period mid-mark both teams had six men on the ice and empty nets. The situation proved advantageous for the Volant as Clément Gravelle scored Gati- neau’s second goal of the night, with help from Mathis Villeneuve. Third period was all power-play scoring with Mahoney extending the Cougars lead again four minutes into the play, with help from Desjardins and Bissonnette. Desjar- dins fired in the final goal of the night for Vankleek Hill at the mid-mark, with assists from Lightle-Blais and Skyba. Flanberry got the Volant their third and last point on a power-play four minutes from the end of the period. Wylliam Roy assisted. Durocher-Bourdon guarded the Vankleek Hill net throughout Sunday night’s game. The two teams are now confirmed for three more games in their series with the Volant hosting Game Three on March 3. The Cougars play host Sunday night in Hawkes- bury. The fifth game of the series is March 8 in Gatineau.
Two games down and at least three more to go between Vankleek Hill and Gatineau in the opening round of the NCJHL playoffs. The Vankleek Cougars and the Gatineau- Hull Volant each won of the first two games scheduled between the two clubs in the best-of-seven opening round of the Natio- nal Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) playoffs. Game One Last Friday night’s opening game in the series between Vankleek Hill and Gatineau finished 7-4 for the Volant. Gatineau dominated first period, getting on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Benoît Milloy during the first quarter of the period. Jérémy Marcotte extended the league by two more goals for the host team at the period mid-point, with assists from Samuel Lamarche and Mathis Villeneuve on his first goal and from Lois Flansberry on his second. Maxime Laliberté put Vankleek Hill on the board eight minutes from the end of the period, with a goal assist from Cougars assistant captain Joshua Desjardins. Desjar- dins then added a second goal to Vankleek Hill’s total during the last three minutes of the period. Fellow assistant captain John Mahoney assisted on the goal. Villeneuve added one more point to the Volant’s first-period total in the last thirty seconds of the period, with help from Lamarche and Louis-Philippe Legault. Second period saw Gatineau extend its league by another point. The Volant got their fifth goal of the night in first five minutes into the play from the stick of Clément Gravelle, with help from Cédric Bertrand and Charles
Antoine Boucher. Cougars Captain Mikael Bissonnette got the scoring going again for Vankleek Hill with the team’s third goal near the mid=mark of third period. Assisting on the goal were Andy Lightle-Blais and Alexandre Chenier. Thirty seconds after Bissonnette’s goal, Gatineau’s Villeneuve put the scoring gap between the two teams back at three points with the help of Lamarche and Marcotte. Gravelle sccored the Volant’s final point at the period mid-mark, with assists from Boucher and Bertrand. Vankleek Hill’s Lightle-Blais scored the Cougars’ last goal of the night in the final two minutes of the game, with the help of Desjardins. Les Hawks de Hawkesbury ont terminé leur calendrier de matchs de février avec une victoire en fusillade contre les Braves de Brockville. Les Hawks ont partagé les résultats de leurs deux derniers matchs de février avec une défaite de 6-3 contre les Colts à Cornwall jeudi soir dernier, puis une victoire de 2-1 contre Brockville qui s’est terminée en fusillade. Hawkesbury n’a pas pu s’inscrire au tableau des scores avant la dernière période du match contre Cornwall, alors que l’équipe hôte menait 5-0 au début de la troisième période. Une occasion en avantage numérique huit minutes après le début de la période de jeu a permis à Rémi Gelinas d’inscrire Hawkesbury au tableau des scores. Roger Chartrand de Lefaivre (Ontario), décédé le dimanche, 19 février 2023, à l’âge de 67 ans. Il était l’époux bien-aimé de feu Sylvie A. Drouin; le fils de feu Yvon Chartrand et de feu Thérèse Lajeunesse; le cher père de Dominic, Sébastien (sa brue préférée, Mélissa Côté) et Lyne (David Rutters); le grand-père adoré de son petit champion Alexis et Anabelle. Lui survivent également deux sœurs, Suzanne (Gary MacKenzie) et Marie-Louise ainsi que des beaux-frères, belles-sœurs, neveux, nièces et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par un frère Richard (Diane Giroux). Roger fut conseiller scolaire pour le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien pour de nombreuses années. Entrepeneur dans l’industrie bovine, il a su aussi bien se dévouer que s’épanouir dans son travail comme dans ses implications communautaires. Un service religieux aura lieu le vendredi, 10 mars 2023 à 10h30 en l’église Saint-Thomas, à Lefaivre. La famille sera présente à l’église à compter de 9h30 afin de recevoir les condoléances. Un merci spécial aux premiers répondants et aux paramédics pour leur dévouement, leur compassion et support envers la famille suite au décès de notre père Roger. Nous savons très bien que tu es notre ange protecteur et que tu es toujours à nos côtés. Les beaux souvenirs qui meublent nos mémoires, ainsi que les tendres moments passés ensemble, bercent nos cœurs meurtris.
