Edwards est président de la com- pagnie Canada Cement et de la Russell Agricultural Society, et directeur de plusieurs compagnies, dont la Banque Canadienne de Commerce, les Chemins de fer du Canada Central, l’Association forestière canadienne et l’Exposition du Canada central. En 1920, il participe à l’organisation d’une fusion de 60 mil- lions de dollars impliquant la Riordon Pulp and Paper Company.

Edwards débute dans le commerce du bois d’oeuvre à Thurso, puis démé- nage à Rockland en 1868 et fonde la W.C. Edwards and Co. Il construit des scieries importantes à Rockland et à New Edinburgh. Éleveur de bétail et agronome renommé, il représente Russell au Parlement de 1887 à 1903, année de sa nomination au Sénat. Il accompagne le premier ministre

A Liberal, he was five times elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Ontario electoral district of Russell. He was first elected in the Canadian federal election of 1887, and was re- elected in 1888, 1891, 1896 and 1900. On 17 March 1903 he was appointed to the Canadian Senate upon the rec- ommendation of Sir Wilfrid Laurier. He represented the senatorial division of Russell County, Ontario until his death[1] in Ottawa. At one time, Edwards owned the residence at 24 Sussex Drive, having purchased it from Joseph Merrill Currier in 1902.[4] Ironically his nephew Cam- eron Macpherson Edwards’s home, Har- rington Lake, is now the country retreat of the Prime Minister of Canada. Edwards was also president of Can- ada Cement Company, was a noted live- stock breeder and served as president of the Russell Agricultural Society. His nephew Gordon Cameron Ed- wards also served in the Canadian House of Commons.

WilliamCameron Edwards (7May 1844 – 17 September 1921) was a Canadian businessman and parliamentarian. He was born in Clarence Township in Russell County, Ontario, the son of William Edwards and Ann Cameron,[2] received basic schooling in Ottawa and, at a young age, began work in the timber industry at Thurso, Quebec. He founded W.C. Edwards & Company which built large sawmills at Rockland and New Edinburgh. Up until 1920, Ed- wards’company also operated a sawmill on the Petite-Nation River in Quebec at North Nation Mills, north of Plaisance.
