On Saturday, October 29th , MIYC will host its Welcome Back Party -- HOMECOMING. This year, we will kick off the season with a rousing 'back to the club' event reminiscent of our school days. So while you think of it, the Member Events Committee needs you to do two things: First, look for that team shirt, sweater, cheerleading get-up or anything that represents school days...even a teacher outfit, or a nerd. We count on your creativity and you always come through. And secondly, please look for a high school or college picture of yourself that you can email to Pam Dorr or mail to Pam at the club. Of course we intend to display the photos for all the members to see and guess who you were back then. Please put your name on the back of the pictures. Reservations Please! Please remember to make your reservations for dinner and events at the Club at least two days before the event. Chef Jono and his Staff like to be prepared in order to have the right amount of food and beverage. Also, when you make your reservation for a specific time, please be prepared to be shown to your table at that time. We appreciate your help as this also helps the kitchen Staff serve you in a timely manner.

Nametag Replacement Policy • Equity members are allowed two replacements of nametags before being charged $10 per replacement. • All other memberships are allowed one free nametag replacement before being charged a $10 fee.
Equity, Full and Trial Members , please note that during season (mid-January until after Easter) you must travel by boat to Naples Yacht Club and Naples Sailing & Yacht Club. We ask their members to do the same due to increased membership and limited parking during season. Dress Code: Gentlemen, remember to wear collared shirts for dining in the evening. Also, jackets are required at Wine & Dine unless otherwise noted. Cell Phone Usage in the Clubhouse Dining Areas : Please limit your cell phone usage to texting and searching when in the dining areas of the Club. Conversations should take place under the Port Cochere. Membership Card : Your membership card is available via the app on your cell phone. Early "Artists Call" for 2023 MIYC Art Show April 27-30, 2023
The MIYC Art Show will be held next year after the Blessing of the Fleet. More information will be provided by Art Show Chairman, Henry Stanley. However, members who are up north, including artists who were not part of our previous shows and also, our many new members, may not be aware of this, and would leave their potential artworks up north when they return this fall. This is a preliminary advisory telling you of the upcoming event so anyone interested can both prepare and bring artwork that they would wish to enter into the show. Watch for more information in future e-blasts!

Chairman
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Carrissa (Carrie) Brooks as General Manager of Marco Island Yacht Club. Most of our members know Carrie. She joined the Club in March 2021 as a Project Manager for our Northstar Systems installation. In November of 2021, we promoted Carrie to the position of Dining Room Manager. And in March of 2022 we promoted her to Food & Beverage Director and Interim General Manager. Carrie assumes the position of General Manager as of August 1, 2022. Although many of you know Carrie, you may not be familiar with her background and experience. Prior to joining Marco Island Yacht Club, Carrie

was the Food & Beverage Manager at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers. In that role, she assisted the Club Manager in the daily management of the facility as well as managed the food & beverage staff. Prior to the Plantation, Carrie worked in the food and beverage function at Stock Development Company in Fort Myers and Naples. Her role in our Northstar System transition provided substantial insight to the Club's operations and finances. She worked closely with various committees to help set up accounting, food & beverage, retail, and marina modules in Northstar. Upon assuming the Dining Manager position, she began implementing improvements in the operation, including staff training on the new system. She also worked closely with the committees involved with the Ship's Store and Member Events as well as improved our food and beverage inventory process. Upon the previous General Manager's resignation, we formed a Search Committee to identify and evaluate candidates for the position. The Committee evaluated several candidates that were identified from members and staff and from our search partner, Gecko Hospitality. The Committee narrowed the candidate pool to two outside candidates and Carrie. The two outside candidates were well qualified with considerable experience. Carrie distinguished herself in the interview process. She was poised, exhibited confidence, and demonstrated a broad view of the job based on her background and experience. The Search Committee concluded its work with the recommendation to promote Carrie to the General Manager position. Having worked closely with Carrie over the past two years, I know that her experience, passion for our Club and strong operations background will be beneficial for MIYC. In addition, Carrie's leadership style and engagement with our staff and membership will help the Club on our journey to exceptional member experience. Please join me in congratulating Carrie on her new position. I know that she will appreciate your support as she assumes her new responsibilities. Dave Resuming Dates for Boaters Night and Sunset Cruises • Boaters Night will resume on November 9. • Sunset Cruises resume on October 26. • There is also a Sunset Cruise on November 30.

Commodore
Dear Members, The Bridge of MIYC has lost one of our own, Past Commodore Ray Rosenberg. Many of you will have warm memories of 2020, Ray’s year as Commodore, when he presided over the Bridge and served on the Board during the difficult advent of Covid with steady resolve, good sense and a dose of military efficiency. Ray was one of the first Members Kelley and I met when we joined the Club, and, as he often did, Ray took us new members under his wing, introducing us to other Members and gently informing us about Club traditions and the rewards of involvement. It was Ray who encouraged us to go to FCYC events, and eventually got me on the Bridge. I got to know him as a friend, an experienced yachtsman, a gifted amateur chef, and a mentor. Ray was passionate about the things he loved, and among those things were family, country, yachting, two very fortunate cats, and this Club. As a young man, Ray entered the U.S. Army as a buck private recruit, and retired after a distinguished career with the rank of Colonel. It is rare for an enlisted man to be promoted to an officer, even more unusual for such a person to have a successful military career, but Ray was always far above the norms. Ray served his country with distinction during the Vietnam war, something he rarely talked about. Among his decorations were the Bronze Star for valor, with four clusters, which means that Ray was awarded the Bronze Star on five separate occasions. You don’t get the Bronze Star for being a brilliant staff officer (although Ray was one of those), you get it for being shot at and for courage under fire. Ray Rosenberg was an authentic American hero. Ray brought his extensive skills and determination to the business world after the Army, and he excelled as the long- time Executive Director of the Los Angeles, California MLS, one of the most demanding and difficult jobs in real estate, where he met Linda. Ray and Linda were avid sailors in California, Mexico and the Pacific for many years, and they were valued members of Yacht Clubs there, before they decided to move to Marco Island some years ago. When Ray found the Marco Island Yacht Club, he dived in with characteristic energy, and, of course, became a leader. The Club benefited for years from his service, friendship, wise counsel and experience. Ray’s military past was never far beneath the surface. Club colors ceremonies were always a little more snappy, a little more polished under Ray’s command, I recall. As Bridge Officers lined up just before the ceremony, Ray would inspect each of us up and down with that Colonel’s gaze of his, and would remind us yet again to watch our gig lines (the vertical line on the front of the uniform formed by the shirt buttons above and the zipper pleat below). Ray, we, your fellow Bridge Officers, will remember you in every formation, and we will work hard to keep our gig lines straight. Linda has asked that the Club conduct an appropriate Yachtsman’s service for Ray sometime this coming October or November, exact date to be determined. I hope you will all join me then to celebrate the life of a quiet hero, Yachtsman and good friend, Ray Rosenberg. Tom Wentworth Commodore, MIYC

By now, you know that our Past Commodore Ray Rosenberg has passed away. There are lovely tributes to Ray in other areas of this issue. I will always remember Ray for his love of popcorn. If you were lucky enough to attend his ‘roast’ in January 2021, you know he was good natured when he accepted all of our teasing. Ray brought many new members to this Club and represented us well with Florida Council of Yacht Clubs. He will be missed. I know many of you will want to attend his celebration of life this Fall. We will keep you posted. Please keep Ray and Linda in your thoughts and prayers. Remember Summer Reciprocal Clubs Welcome to the heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms! It is that time of year and we are welcoming many local clubs to our facility. They, too, are welcoming our Equity and Full members to use their club. Back by popular demand are Martini and Manhattan Mayhem on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursdays for your dining pleasure! The mayhem begins on Wednesdays with a complimentary house brand Martini or Manhattan with the purchase of a full dinner entrée. Thursdays will feature a bottle or red or white wine (club selected) with the purchase of two full dinner entrees. Both of these weekly dining events have been extremely popular so be sure to make your reservations in advance. These events will be featured We have a waitlist for Full and Social Memberships, but we should be able to begin to clear some names soon. We do feel that we will clear the list slowly so keep bringing great prospects to us! We do have some new Members to welcome to the Club! Beth & Larry Malace were three-month trial members who have joined us as Full members! Richard & Jo- Jo Mueller were also three-month trial members who will be joining us as Social members in the Fall. Michelle & Terry Duke purchased a summer membership from us. They have been living on the East Coast of Florida but have just purchased a home on the island and will be relocating. Joe & Tina Pregont are new Marina Equity members. They will be docking their boat in the marina soon! Lisa &Mike Gill are new Full members who joined us in mid-July. It’s best if you contact Cynthia in advance of your visit for a letter of introduction, and when you arrive, you may be asked to show your membership card. Don’t know where yours is? Left it back in Marco? No worries – it’s in the APP! Just open the App, click on Menu, then click on the Member Card Icon (circled in the first photo), and your member card will appear!

BEST OF NAPLES: MIYC was approached to participate in the Best of Naples contest, sponsored by USA Today, in the Yacht Club category. With approval from the Chairman of the Board, we entered and encouraged members to vote for us every day through 2 email campaigns. The winners will be announced on September 27 – stay tuned to learn where we placed! We’d also like to welcome Deb Melges to the Committee. Safety & Training
A Very Special Safety and Training Message OK, this really isn’t a safety and training article, but it is my page, and I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to the man who has had the greatest impact on my membership in our club: Ray Rosenberg. Much can and has been said about Ray, but without going into detail, the most common comment was, “Ray is Ray”. Anyone who knew him for even the shortest time, knows exactly what I mean. But whatever your relationship with him was, no one can dispute his unconditional love for the Marco Island Yacht Club.

Besides the many roles he played throughout the years, he was always an advocate for and friend to new members, always welcoming them to dine at his table and become part of the yacht club family. His tactics may have been a little forward, but always well meaning. I remember when we first joined the club, Ray soon approached also new member, Tom Wentworth, and said, “We need a new Rear Commodore. You’re it!” Then he approached me and said, “We just lost our Safety and Training officer. You’re the new one!” I told him I didn’t have an officer’s shirt. He said he had one for me. Then I said I didn’t have an officer’s cover (hat). Again, he said he had an extra one. So, what could I say? One way or another, he was going to get his way. Ray is just a reminder of how short and fragile life can be. We often take things way too seriously and forget the many blessings we have each day. We will certainly miss Ray but can honor his memory by appreciating each other's friendship and carrying on his tradition of welcoming and encouraging all the new members who become part of our yacht club family. Riverside Marina Update Summer is going great at the Riverside Marina! There is plenty of work to do to keep our shiny new marina looking perfect. The marina is less than a year old and has already gained a stellar reputation in the cruising community, as many visitors have told me. Each time a new transient guest arrives, they comment on how excellent our facilities are, how good the food is, and how wonderful the staff and members are. It is truly rewarding to be a part of the MIYC team.

I am happy to announce that we now have two marina attendants on our team as we gear up for a busy winter and spring season. John Hernandez is a sophomore at Lely High School and has been part-time at the club for three months. John has learned very fast and can already do most marina tasks without being told what to do. He can tie several knots, including the complicated Spanish Bowline that took me tons of practice. He got it on the first try! You’ll notice John’s exceptional manners and strong work ethic on the docks. Matt Bartos is our newest part-time team member and will join us full- time this Fall. At 20 years old, Matt is already a seasoned fisherman with countless hours offshore and in the backwaters on his boat. He plans to get his Captain’s license this Fall. Matt brings a wealth of fishing knowledge and experience to the table and looks forward to helping with fishing activities at MIYC this season. We miss seeing members hanging out on the dock after a sunset cruise or taking an after-dinner stroll, but we are planning some great waterfront activities for the upcoming season. Mariners Fund The Mariners Fund is a way to finance extraordinary MIYC needs; things outside of the normal budget; Club enhancements that will make the member experience better and up to date. For example, the Burgee Bar renovation was made possible entirely by member donations. The bar was expanded, new drop-down window covers were installed and attractive curtains and valances were added. The Mariners Fund also paid to upgrade the Club’s sound system and supported the installation of a new dimmer system to enhance lighting in the Harbour Room. All these improvements were made possible by the generous support of our members. A donation to the Mariners Fund is a symbol of MIYC member commitment. How Can I Donate? You can make a general donation or donate for a specific project. We have identified a number of needs and wishes, which are listed in a binder just below the recognition plaque in the lobby. If you’d like to donate, please download the Mariners Fund Donation Form, on which you can indicate the project you wish to support and the amount of donation . Your donation will be charged to your Club account . If there is something special you would like to see happen and would like to financially support, please let any member of the Mariners Fund Committee know. Mariners Fund Recognition Levels A Mariners Fund recognition plaque in the lobby hallway honors the cumulative contributions Members have made.
