8.2.2 Body of the Interview 

Ask the applicant open-ended questions.  Can the applicant do the job?  Will the applicant do the job?  Does the applicant fit the MOLLY MAID culture?  Listen and take notes, but not on the application.  Form opinions.

8.2.3 Closing the Interview

Answer the applicant’s questions.

 Discuss the next steps, including background checks that will be conducted.  Obtain releases when applicable.

8.3 Objective of the Interview

The objective of the interview is to select the people who are the best fit for the job based on the criteria included in the job description.

Employment laws restrict the scope and purpose of interview questions. This section will guide you in legally obtaining information appropriate for a hiring decision.

8.4 Interview Opportunities

The interview allows you to meet and observe the applicant. Stay alert and use this time to your advantage.  Directly observe the applicant’s behavior including: interest in getting the job, = communication ability, level of alertness, personal grooming, self-confidence, and understanding of necessary work.  Obtain additional background information, work experience information, and value system.  Assess the applicant’s attitude and interpersonal skills by asking about past work performance and achievements.  Determine the applicant’s income needs to assure that they can be exceeded. Do not hire anyone whose needs exceed your compensation range.  Give the applicant a preview of the job to determine interest.  Be sure to describe both the challenges and the benefits of the job.  Promote a good public image of MOLLY MAID.  Minimize a potentially stressful situation for applicants who have never been interviewed.  Begin by describing the interview process and approximately how long it will take.  Tell the applicant you will be taking notes.  Set the pace and direction of the conversation.
