Obtain Verbal Information – During the interview, observe how well the applicant understands your questions. Listen intently for the applicant’s verbal communication ability. Pause briefly before noting observations – Noting observations in real time, particularly if he/she is especially positive or negative, gives the applicant clues as to what information is important and valuable and can reinforce her natural tendency to say only those things that reflect positively on her or those things that he/she thinks you want to hear. 8.7 Open-Ended Questions for a Structured Interview 8.7.1 HSP Interview Questions 1. Why did you leave (or why do you want to leave) the company? 4. How would a job with MOLLY MAID meet your needs? 5. Which job aspects are important to you? 6. Which circumstances bring out your best work? 7. What are your present income needs? o How did you arrive at this figure? 8. What are you looking for in this job that you are not getting in your present job? 9. What motivates you or causes you to do your best? 10. What have your supervisors complimented you for in the past? o For what have they criticized you? 11. In what areas could I help you develop yourself? 12. How do you define a good job in your previous line of work? o What do you think a “good job” at MOLLY MAID would be? 13. If you were going to evaluate your own performance, what factors would you consider the most important? 14. Do you have any responsibilities that would interfere with MOLLY MAID employment Monday through Friday from about 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.? 15. Would you please tell me something about yourself? 16.
