EVENT RULES Power Walk- 1500M 1.

Number of heats will be based on the number of entries. 2. All competitors must be checked-in with the clerk when their event heat is announced. 3. Athletes requiring a cane as an aid will be allowed to compete but walking sticks or walkers are not allowed. 4. Visually impaired athletes can compete in power walk but there will not be a separate division for medals. Athletes will compete in their age and female and male category heats based on the number of entries. 5. Visually impaired athletes may use a guide. A tether can be used and must be of a non-elastic material and not store energy and/or offer a performance gain to the athlete. It shall consist of two closed holding loops and a middle section with two fixed spherical stoppers at each end. The maximum length at its full extension shall not exceed 100cm. For the powerwalk competition the length must be 30cm. Disqualification: The National Senior Games Association Power Walking rules are: 1. One foot must be on the ground at all times. Loss of contact with the ground is cause for disqualification. 2. Each advancing foot-strike must be heel to toe at all times. Striking with the toe or ball of the advancing foot is considered running and is cause for disqualification. 3. Creeping, where the advancing leg is stretched forward beyond a normal walk form, and the knee is bent into a running form is cause for disqualification. 4. A slightly bent knee is the accepted form; however, a bent knee in a running or jogging form or an overly excessive bent knee that is deemed to be in a creeping or running shuffle is not acceptable may result in disqualification. 5. Running or jogging mode is forbidden.
