LEARNING JOURNAL – Questions and final decisions. To facilitate the development of a long -term strategy for Shangri-La Island Hong Kong, applying systematic steps of Strategic Planning. To provide leadership development focusing on the understanding of personality traits and how they effect leadership styles and business results.
To align teams to follow one shared purpose by solidifying partnerships across multiple levels of leadership.

Pre-work will include: Myers Briggs Assessment Strategic Planning Module in Harvard Management Mentor Meeting with Ulf and Julian to discuss overall desirable outcomes and areas of focus to ensure workshop optimisation. PRE-WORK:
Participants (GM + RM + L1 and L2 leaders) will be required to:
1. Complete the Myer Briggs Assessment which aims to identify personality traits that are manifested in their leadership persona. Objective of the pre-work: Increase awareness on the participants’ traits and co-relate them to workplace behaviours and leadership styles.
2. Take 1 section of the Module: Strategic Thinking program available in Harvard Management Mentor.
Objective of the pre-work: Learners will be able to understand the importance of having a strategic plan for long-term results, while learning the steps involved in the the construction of a strategic plan.

Myer Briggs Assessment reflection Introduce the concept of traits personality and how they relate to leadership manifested in thoughts, behaviours and emotions. Reflect on results obtained from the pre-work to increase awareness of the teams dynamics.

Strategic Planning, Step 1: Disciplined SWOT Analysis Strategic Planning, Step 2: Setting up a vision Team Building Activity 1: Feedback Carrousel
To understand the parting point of the business as well as to allow concerning topics to emerge, a SWOT analysis will be conducted by the teams in collaboration. Through Graphic Facilitation and the use of Affinity Walls, the team will come together to design a desirable vision for the hotel based on a 3 year time-frame. Increase a sense of trust and positivity by facilitating interactions using objective feedback. Addressing positivity and concerns in teams dynamics.

Strategic Planning, Step 3: Strategic Pillars Strategic Planning, Step 4: Identifying KPIs & Champions Team Building Activity 2 and 3: Social Experiment
Identify areas of focus to achieve the vision relating it to the BSC. Structure the areas that represent shared objectives (big rocks) moving forward. Establish the metrics that will inform the success of the pillars and the vision. These will be related to BSC however tailored to vision. Both activities will demonstrate personality traits (identified in Day 1) becoming salient on two tasks. Through fun engagement we will explore the conditions that are necessary to facilitate in order to build a successful team. Identifying the behaviours that will be essential for leaders to demonstrate in order to achieve the long-term strategy and establish levels of accountability. Teams will present a recap on the whole two days including next actions. Teams will also decide how to socialise and mobilise their own colleagues to achieve success.

1. Watch a 10 minutes Webinar which will be sent to them that introduces them to the concept of Strategic Planning:
• What is Strategic Planning? • Why is Strategic Planning important? • How are Strategic Plans established? • The difference between daily operational management and Strategic Planning. • The role of L3 and L4 leaders in the implementation of a Strategic Plan.

Team Building Activity 1: Foundations of Collaboration Team Building Activity 2: Teams Dynamics
Through a fun and engaging activity, L3 and L4 leaders will identify specific actions that will help move the hotel to achieving the desired vision. RM will open after lunch with further messages on the Strategic Plan formulated on Day 1. Teams will explore what makes team dynamics identifying strengths and also obstacles in achieving success. Becoming aware of the conditions necessary to facilitate the right environment to achieve the vision. 2 ExCom leaders and the facilitator will explain the behaviours identified to achieve success an the role of L3 and L4 leaders in the strategic plan. Teams will present a recap of the day and will finish with a feedback carrousel aiming to stimulate positivity.
