County News
Economic development activity remains strong as new businesses, expansions, and redevelopment projects continue to shape the local landscape. Gloucester County Economic Development UMT Pharmacy is currently under construction in the former Gloucester Pharmacy site, while Brewed Awakening Café is preparing to open this spring in the former Courthouse Restaurant location. Harbor Freight is set to occupy the former Big Lots building, and a new restaurant is planned for the former Ann’s Family Diner site. At the same time, existing businesses are investing in growth, with York River Oyster Company expanding its dining space, M.D. Express beginning an expansion, and approved site plans paving the way for upcoming O’Reilly Auto Parts and Sheetz developments. A portion of the a former bowling alley is also being renovated to attract future tenants, further supporting commercial revitalization. This momentum is reflected in new business formation and community engagement. In February alone, 25 new businesses were established, including 14 home-based and 11 commercial ventures, alongside the addition of Do it Wright Service & Lube, a new heavy equipment repair shop. A recently completed business survey achieved a 26 percent participation rate, with respondents expressing strong interest in continued engagement and collaboration. Together, these efforts highlight a positive trajectory for sustained economic growth and investment in the community.
