Each unit has a series of class exercises, practical work and, when possible, fieldwork. Geographic research will involve fieldwork to collect information and then applying appropriate procedures to interpret and present the research data. This is a four-day field trip to the Craigieburn Range. Other one-day field trips may occur throughout the year. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with 12 of the 26 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 14 credits internally assessed. The following Achievement Standards may be assessed:
• AS 91240 (4 credits – external) Demonstrate geographic understanding of a large natural environment. • AS 91243 (4 credits – external) Apply concepts and geographic skills to demonstrate understanding of a given environment. • AS 91244 (5 credits – internal) Conduct geographic research with guidance. • AS 91245 (3 credits – internal) Explain aspects of a contemporary geographic issue. • AS 91246 (3 credits – internal)
Explain aspects of a geographic topic at a global scale. An examination of the spread of malaria.
