WHO WE ARE
For 75 years and 4 generations our family has been involved in the service to our clients within the markets of leather goods, accessories, and manufacturing. Through the generations we have sold leather, distributed tanning machinery, sold leather again, and for the past 40 years manufactured hardware for the high-end accessory and leather goods markets. But through those 75 years we have always, at our core, been a customer service business. Listening and understanding our customers’ needs and working together to bring their vision to life. We are a family and treat our clients as such. A partner for the long run.
WHAT WE DO
For the past 40 years we have worked in the ‘hardware game’ and since 2000 we have co-owned and operated a brass hardware manufacturing facility. During this time, we have focused on solid brass for large and medium global fashion brands and those seeking excellence in materials that go into their product. In 2010 we started Buckleguy.com as an online wholesale supply store for manufacturers, leather crafters and hobbyists in search of better-quality leatherworking products that were typically unavailable at small quantities. During this 10-year period we have seen a surge of quality demands from crafters and manufacturers that have been seeking supplies that put their product above the big box brands. Over time we have expanded outside of just hardware and partnered with some of the best supply manufacturers in the world in the markets of leathers, zippers, tools, threads, and more. Our philosophy is, ‘if we don’t make the product, then we want to source it directly frommanufacturers that meet the same level of quality standards as our own hardware.’

If you are looking to make a custom item, need a unique finish, want a logo on an existing item, or need large volume production you can reach out directly to our customer service department. Belowwe list some of our methods and guidelines for custom development and manufacturing. CustomHardware Development
MANUFACTURING DETAILS
• Our Factory: Built in 2000, nearly all hardware production occurs in our Asian factory. • Materials: We manufacture in low lead brass, zinc, stainless steel, iron, and other metals. • Minimums: 1,500+ pcs per item, but will vary based on design. • Methods of Manufacturing: Sand casting, die casting, forging, loss wax, CNC, wire forming, lathe, stamping, and more. • Cost &MOQ: Prices, minimums, and mold fees will be quoted. • Timeframe: Standard lead-time for production is 6 weeks after sample approval. • Shipping: Ocean shipping to our Massachusetts warehouse is included in product cost (FOBMassachusetts). Ocean to Massachusetts shipments occur every 3 weeks and ocean transit time is approximately 6 weeks. If you require your order to be shipped via air or direct to an alternate location, you will be quoted separately. We are able to drop ship worldwide.
THE PROCESS OF CUSTOM HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT
• Initial Design: Client will need to provide either drawings, samples, CAD files, or technical specifications to start the development process. • Consultation: These specs are sent to our development team for review and advisement on construction methods, price, minimum requirements, and mold fees. • 3D Plastic Samples: Our factory will provide a 3D sketch that we use to print a plastic sample here in Massachusetts for client approval (takes 1-2 days to print the plastic). • Metal Samples: Once the client approves the plastic sample, we will begin the brass or other metal sampling process, which takes about 2 weeks to deliver. • Production: When the metal sample is approved and any molds are made, production begins, which takes approximately 6 weeks. • Delivery: Hardware is packed and delivered anywhere in the world with your choice of ocean or air. As always, you can ship ocean to our Massachusetts warehouse at no cost! Via air or direct to an alternate location, you will be quoted separately. We are able to drop ship worldwide. Our 71+ years of experience gives us the ability to advise on construction methods, provide alternative design ideas, and utilize a wealth of manufacturing knowledge to develop your hardware. HARDWARE
Our Factory
Since 1945 and 4 generations of family, we have been dedicated to the leather goods and accessory industry. For over 40 years we have been in hardware, and for the past 20 years we have owned our own hardware manufacturing facility that focuses on the medium to high end accessory market. The majority of hardware you see at Buckleguy is from our factory, and every piece of hardware that comes through our factory meets the same rigorous testing and quality standards, whether it be for a large global fashion brand or a small crafter. OUR METHODS We primarily manufacture in solid brass, but also make in zinc, iron, and stainless steel. We produce in a variety of methods depending on the product. These include sand casting, forging, lost wax, stamping, and more. All products go through tumbling, polishing, several rounds of plating (if required), and lacquering. In the manufacturing of accessory hardware, many of these steps can often be overlooked or underperformed. For example, if you see hardware with plating that is chipping or flaking, it is often due to the lack of a copper and nickel layer, which creates a more durable bond. This is just one of the ‘hidden’ elements that go into hardware production that allows our hardware to look great and perform for the life of the product! TESTING AND REGULATION STANDARDS Our factory meets and exceeds all requirements when it comes to material composition, employment standards, and environmental regulation. We produce using only Low Lead Brass . This means that our brass is under 90ppm lead content, which meets the requirements set out by California’s Prop 65, as well as the European REACH standards. We have a full ‘in-house’ department for product testing that includes hardness, tensile strength, cross-hatch, and more. We also perform a CASS test where hardware sits in a chamber of high humidity, salt, and heat, which is considered an accelerated wear test. We are dedicated to continually improving our manufacturing and in 2019 invested a great deal in new and improved machinery. WHY BRASS? There is a reputation that surrounds brass. It has been used for centuries as a durable and reliable metal where time often improves its appearance. In the market of leather goods, brass projects authenticity and a cachet of quality. When comparing brass to zinc—brass will bend before it breaks, it will hold a stronger plating, it is more substantial in weight, and in time brass will endure.

Quality Conscious
At Buckleguy, we stock a variety of leather from some of the leading vegetable and chrome tanneries around the world. We stock full hides, sides, panels, straps, coasters, bellies, and more. The majority of leathers we carry are grades #1 and #2 in quality—the best production from the tannery so that the leather you receive is clean and without significant markings. Our leathers are stocked with the intention of distributing only those products that meet the needs of our quality conscious clients. We purchase most leathers ‘at weight’ from the tanneries we distribute for. This means that the majority of all leather will be refinished on the flesh side. We attempt to hold ample stock so that whether you are looking for one skin or multiple, we will have availability.
ABOUT LEATHER
• FIRM: Hard and rigid with little flexibility. • MEDIUM: Slightly firm and less rigid. Moderately pliable. • SEMI-SOFT: Soft and pliable. Little to no firmness. • SOFT: Extremely flexible and pliable. No firmness.
