IP To Close Texas Packaging Facility
Memphis, Tennessee based International Pa- per has announced it will close its Carrollton South packaging facility in Texas by the end of the third quarter of 2026. The decision is part of the company’s ongoing work to align its manufacturing footprint with customer demand and strengthen the long-term com- petitiveness of its North America packaging business. “Decisions that affect our people and our communities are never made lightly. We’re committed to supporting our Carrollton South team members throughout this transition,” said Keith Townsend, Group Vice President, North America Packaging East, International Paper. “Customers will be serviced at other International Paper facilities in the region.” According to a report on Packaging Dive , nearly all of the 45 hourly and 19 salaried em- ployees will be affected, and they’re eligible to apply for posted jobs at another IP facilities, said Amy Simpson, IP’s head of communica- tions for North America. Customers will be serviced by other IP facilities in the region, according to a news release. IP has another box plant about 2.5

‘What’s New’ Sessions Return For Corrugated Week 2026 One of Corrugated Week’s most popular programs is re- turning in 2026 with an even bigger stage. The What’s New sessions will once again give attend- ees a fast look at the latest products, technologies, and services entering the corrugated marketplace, but this year the presentations will move to the event’s General Ses- sions on September 29 and 30, putting the spotlight on innovation in front of the conference’s full audience. Participating suppliers will each have seven minutes to introduce innovations launched since January 2025. Whether it’s a new product, an expanded service, or a fresh application for existing technology, the sessions are intended to give boxmakers a quick overview of develop- ments that could make an impact in their operations. For attendees, it’s an efficient way to discover new ideas. In just two sessions, they’ll hear from dozens of sup- pliers, gain insight into emerging technologies, and leave with a list of booths to visit for deeper conversations. For exhibitors, the format offers an opportunity to put their latest work in front of a larger audience. The move to the main stage is expected to generate additional traffic to supplier booths while giving companies a platform to high- light the work they’ve been developing over the past year and a half.

PPC To Host 2026 Fall Meeting In The Sunshine State
The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) invites members and others in the folding carton industry to gather in Orlando, Florida, September 30 through October 2 for the 2026 Fall Meeting. Hosted at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista at Disney Springs, the meeting will feature keynote presentations, industry updates, peer discussions, and recognition of excellence in paperboard packaging. Attendees will also have opportunities to connect with colleagues from across the in- dustry while exploring topics ranging from leadership development and economic trends to global market dynamics and the future of paper- board packaging.

Last month, the Fibre Box Association (FBA) hosted a we- binar where the 2025 Innovation in Safety Achievement Award recipients shared the challenges they faced, the solutions they developed, and the measurable results they achieved. rugated and display provider. At Me- nasha’s Madera, California, facility, an engineering solution significantly re- duced the risk of serious injuries in the corrugator roll area of the operation. Carlos Munoz, EHS Manager at Menasha Packaging, presented the

company’s award-winning project, which focused on im- proving safety around the corrugator roll stand. The area requires multiple team members to work in close proximity while loading and adjusting rolls, creating the potential for one employee to activate the roll arms while another re- mains in the hazard zone. According to Munoz, employees may need to enter the area for several reasons, including aligning rolls with the chucks or addressing issues with the core. Industry inci- dents have demonstrated the potential for serious struck- by and pinch point injuries when one person is making adjustments while another activates the arm. “Communication and administrative controls were not enough to consistently prevent exposure,” Munoz ex- plained. “We needed a solution that removed the opportu- nity for unintended movement altogether.”

To address the hazard, Menasha installed pressure-sen- sitive safety mats throughout the roll stand area. The mats automatically disable roll arm movement whenever some- one is standing within the designated work zone, prevent- ing the equipment from operating until the area has been cleared. Rather than relying solely on employees to communi- cate or remain aware of one another’s positions, the sys- tem establishes an engineering control that makes safe operation the default condition. Munoz said the system also provides a consistent layer of protection during both routine opera- tion and maintenance activities by preventing equipment movement anytime a person is on the safety mats. Munoz discussed what prompted the company to move beyond administrative controls and pursue an en- gineered solution, explaining that risk assessment discus- sions, along with training on human and organizational performance principles, reinforced the understanding that even experienced employees can become distracted or make mistakes. “Employees are going to make mistakes,” Munoz said. “Whether they become distracted or are having an off day, building safer processes limits those opportunities. The old methods relied heavily on employee awareness. PACK Act To Establish Consistent National Packaging Labeling The Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act, which would establish consistent national standards for recycla- ble, compostable, and reusable claims on consumer pack- aging, was introduced in Congress in December 2025. The bill aims for greater clarity for consumers and a more predictable regulatory framework for businesses. “For years, organizations have navigated an increas- ingly complex patchwork of state laws governing recy- clable, compostable, and reusable claims on packaging. As Congress considers legislation that would establish a consistent national framework, organizations across the packaging value chain have an important opportunity to help shape the conversation,” says Lynn Dyer, President, AMERIPEN. “With growing bipartisan support and a broad coa- lition representing the packaging value chain, the legis- lation continues to gain momentum in Congress. With its first hearing anticipated in the coming weeks before the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, now is an important time for organizations across the industry to become familiar with the legislation and en- gage in the conversation,” continues Dyer. “Consumers rely on packaging to make informed de- cisions. Yet today, organizations are navigating a growing
patchwork of state-specific labeling requirements that can create confusion for consumers and complexity for busi- nesses operating nationwide.” She adds, “The PACK Act would establish a single na- tional framework for recyclable, compostable, and reus- able claims, helping ensure consumers receive consistent information regardless of where they live while providing businesses with greater regulatory certainty. This isn’t simply a labeling issue. It’s about creating a practical ap- proach that supports transparency, consumer confidence, and consistency across state lines.” Every organization that designs, manufactures, fills, transports, sells, or uses packaging has a stake in the outcome of this legislation. This division supplies woven carbon fiber chambered doctor blade sys- tems to the flexo industry. In terms of the offset market, Pamarco’s very own ink management system, Sentinel, represents a major ad- vance in its technology. It has also lead the way by being the first to develop the Diamond brand dual durometer rollers and spiral rollers. To facilitate the consolidation of its European business into the facility in Germany, the company closed its man- ufacturing facility in Warrington, UK, in 2025, and focused its resources toward the wholly-owned, state-of-the-art facility in Salzkotten. This decision was driven by the Ger- man site’s superior positioning to serve global customers more efficiently from its central European location. Additionally, the German facility offers significant ad- vantages for future growth, including unrestricted expan- sion potential and operational flexibility. Situated on a siz- able plot with no limitations on scale or operating hours, the site enables the company to enhance its capabilities without impacting neighboring communities—constraints that have unfortunately limited the growth prospects of the UK plant. plates. Over the years, the company has advanced as a pioneer in ceramic laser engraved anilox rolls: a necessary move as its customers shifted to aqueous and solvent inks with photopolymer plates.
