It is a remarkable fact that five of the archaeologists that were connected with the work at Luxor in Egypt have died. Even the daily press has been commenting upon this. We believe that the disturb ance of the dead by man is contrary to the will of God. Speaking of Tyrus (Ezek. 26:20), God has said— “When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old.” God Himself will presently open the graves of all high and low—the multitude of Egypt, 'and all fthe famous nations” that have gone down into the pit (Ezek. 33). “Men will be well advised to leaye the graves alone,” says an exchange, “un til the voice of the Son of God calls them .forth, ‘they that have done good’ at the resurrection of life, and ‘they that have done evil,’ a thousand years later, at the resurrection of judgment.” —o— Another find at Ur of the Chaldees ig that of an alabaster disc which is stated to date back to 2,700 B.C, It is therefore more than 1,000 years older than the dis coveries at Tut-atlkh Amen’s tomb at Luxor. It is well known that the kings of Assyria and Babylon were constantly at war the one with the other in the very region of Ur of the Chaldees, The Brit ish Museum and University of Pennsyl vania joint expedition came across this disc, which we are told— “Bears the carving of a sacrificial scene in which a Princess, the daugh ter of Sargon the Great, is depicted, and was found in the ruins of the temple dedicated to the Moon God dess, Nin-Gal.” The modern critics used to assure us that there was no such king of Assyria as Sargon, that Isaiah was mistaken, even if it was Isaiah at all that wrote Isaiah 20:1. Now, however, we find that not only was Sargon a real reigning monarch, but also that he had a daughter! After all we had better believe the Bible 1 REV. NOTES ON ARCHAEOLOGY

Luigi Moccia, of Cerignola, Italy, claims that he has in his possession 31 Greek parchments containing the oldest text of the Gospel written in ancient Greek by Joseph, who styles himself a disciple of Jesus. One of the manuscripts consists of a letter alleged to have been written by Joseph on his deathbed at the time of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. by the Roman Emperor Vespasian. It is addressed to the “Brethren of the Faith.” The present owner of the manuscripts, who himself has been working on a trans lation of this Gospel, claims that these works were the original source of the four gospels. Should Moccia’s claim prove true, these manuscripts would be of great importance to Bible scholars and stu dents of the early history of Christianity. A glass cup of the first century, report ed to have been one of the four believed to have been used by Christ at the Last .Supper, has been placed on exhibition in the Ryland’s Library, Manchester, Eng land. Its owner is the noted scholar, Dr. James Rendel Harris. The cup was dis covered in Crimea, the center of an an cient civilization, by a German archaeolo gist, associate of Dr. Diessmann, the fa mous New Testament exegetist of Berlin University. . The cup is of yellow gold and was made in a clay mold, probably in the glass factory of Sidon. It is four and a half inches high and bears an inscription in Greek. If it could be proved beyond question to be the cup which Jesus used, it would indeed be a precious relic. Other wise it is only another archaeological find. Two Great Weeks at B. I. The presence and ministry of Dr. G. Campbell Morgan and Dr. J. Stuart Holden of London, during two great weeks in February brought a blessing of inestimable richness to the student body, as well as to the wider circle of Christian friends. Many saw Scripture truth in a new light, and the heights of Christian living called with clearer voice. The recent announcement that Dr. Morgan has accepted the invitation of the Bible Institute to become a member of the Faculty has been enthusiastically received. Dr. Holden has been invited to re turn for two weeks’ meetings with the students. It is the universal de sire that the way may open for such a service on the part of this dis tinguished Christian friend of young people.
