Dear Parents/Guardians,

As 2023 comes to an end, the need to reflect, acknowledge and celebrate our achievements fills my head with incredible joy. We have all had moments where our exhaustion has overwhelmed us, but we have stayed true to our learning philosophy and programs, purposeful with our narrative and focused on student achievements. So, it is with great pride that I congratulate all of our 2023 multi - disciplinary Award Winners, Year 6 & Year 12 Graduates and Valedictorians. You have led the journey with conviction, demonstrating the behaviours and energy that is a prerequisite for excellence in learning and setting a high standard for your peers. Moreso, all of our students have demonstrated growth in important capabilities and have displayed individual differences that value - add to our diverse and flourishing learning community. Every student in our College shines in their own way. It is our goal and responsibility to provide a pathway for every child ’ s academic and emotional development and to find relevant and inclusive means to celebrate their success. We see this success within the classrooms, however these also extend to success in: STEM pursuits; sporting achievements; community involvement; student leadership and mentoring; camps; excursions; production; and, the Arts. Even this year ’ s festive season postcards were designed and prepared by our

creative students. I hope they warmed your hearts as they did for us.

Participation and excellence will only continue to be enhanced in our College and beyond if we highlight student achievements. Our level of school pride and positive culture for learning must come from students and their belief in themselves. As adults, we must all rally around them and identify opportunities for their personal growth and collective efficacy in a safe and rewarding environment. The leaders at our College are excited and have embraced our pursuit for success as an exemplar P - 12 College and will leave no stone unturned to deliver for our students. To all of our families, thank you for your continued support. Our teachers really do appreciate it! You are equal partners in the learning process. Have a wonderful, safe and relaxing festive season. On behalf of Bonnie, Marcus & I, we will be waiting for your child ’ s return to school next January, 30th for our “ Meet & Greet ” day with excitement and the anticipation of a tremendous 2024 learning year!

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR I just wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate not only the final issue of the College Newsletter for 2023, but also acknowledge and thank all who have contributed to the 21 issues over the year. In particular I would like to thank the principal team; Bonnie, Marcus and Bill for their ongoing support and regular reports. Thankyou to Cam, Rob and Jaz, along with their fantastic student leaders who have also ensured each issue celebrates student voice and learning across the College. Thankyou to Amanda and the members of School Council who have embraced the newsletter and have worked collaboratively with me to develop articles and ideas for future issues. Each fortnight the College Newsletter provides our community with not only a snapshot of what has been achieved but also a celebration of connections we are building and opportunities and events coming up. In our final issue of The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter we have our 2023 Primary and Secondary school captains reflection, filmed at our Awards Night, along with a celebration of all the End of Year award winners from the night. SRC students have also put together a piece on the fantastic Crazy Colour Run fundraising day. If you are unsure of what your child needs to begin 2024 or how the beginning of Term 1 will look, you will also find this information in this issue.

Thankyou to everyone who takes the time to read what is put together each fortnight. From myself and my team of staff who support each issue, have a wonderful and safe holidays.

AN INCREDIBLE COLOUR RUN EXPERIENCE !

The Lakes South Morang College recently hosted a vibrant and exhilarating Colour Run, where students, staff, and the community came together to celebrate, have a blast, and raise funds for our amazing school. This reflection focuses on the infectious joy of the students, the memorable moments of running through the course, and the humorous surprises experienced by beloved individuals. The atmosphere at the Colour Run was filled with infectious laughter, beaming smiles, and an overall sense of excitement. The students, undoubtedly having the best time ever, radiated unbridled enthusiasm as they eagerly lined up at the starting line. Their spirited energy and enthusiasm set the tone for a truly remarkable event. The course itself was a bundle of vibrant colours, with every step providing a new burst of colour. As students weaved through the designated route, they were greeted with clouds of powdered paints, creating a breathtaking visual spectacle. The cheers and laughter echoing through the air intensified the feeling of teamwork and shared experience.

THE UNFORGETTABLE GOOEY SURPRISE....

Among the highlights of the event were the hilarious surprises that unfolded throughout the day. Bill, Marcus, and Bonnie found themselves at the receiving end of an unexpected sliming experience. With each burst of laughter, they embraced the unexpected, joining in the fun and becoming walking works of art.

The Colour Run was such a fun event. It was great to see all the students from across the school running and also great to see the teachers have so much fun throwing colour at us … and each other! Our white shirts were all so messy but it was for a great cause as we raised over $18000. The highlight of my day was seeing Bill, Bonnie and Marcus get slimed, it was so fun to see our Principals get involved on the day. We all had so much fun. Ruby Yr8

Aside from the sheer fun and enjoyment, the Colour

Run also served a greater purpose. Through generous donations and tireless fundraising efforts, the Lakes South Morang College community managed to raise just under $19,000. The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated, as the funds raised will be utilized for important causes within the The Lakes South Morang College. The Colour Run at Lakes was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on all those who participated. From the students ’ laughter - filled faces to the surprising sliming of Bill, Marcus, and Bonnie, the event will be remembered as a celebration of unity and shared purpose. Additionally, the impressive fundraising efforts made a positive impact on the community, emphasising the power of collective effort in making a meaningful difference. Both Primary and Secondary SRC students did an amazing job with organising and hosting the event! Well done SRC!

The Colour Run was a fun day where the school all came together to raise money for a good cause. I really liked seeing the whole school come together, both the students and teachers all had such a great time getting covered in colour and slime. I really liked having a sausage sizzle on the day, as did a lot of other kids. I think it was a really special day for us all and an incredible effort to raise over $18,000! Liam Yr8

From time to time The Lakes South Morang College staff might need to administer first aid to students at school or during school activities. Parents/carers should be aware that the goal of first aid is not to diagnose or treat a condition. Students who are unwell should not attend school. If a student becomes unwell during the school day they may be directed to First Aid and monitored by staff. Depending on the nature of their symptoms, staff may contact parents/ carers or an emergency contact person to ask them to collect the student. If there is a situation or incident which occurs at school or during a school activity which requires first aid to be administered to a student:

ROCKETBOOK

Have you considered a Rocketbook for your stationary items in 2024? This is a fantastic option to replace paper notebooks for all subject areas. More information can be found at www.rocketbook.com.au. Books can be ordered through Campion via our booklists, or directly through Rocketbook using the code LSMC10off for a 10% discount.

Staff who have been trained in first aid will administer first aid in accordance with their training. If first aid is administered for a minor injury or condition, The Lakes South Morang College will notify parents/carers by a Sentral email or phone call.
