You may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan An Advanced Learner Loan is a government loan scheme that will pay 100% of your course fees to the College. You will only start paying this loan back when you start earning over £25,000 per year. When you start earning over £25,000 per year, you’ll pay back the loan at a rate of 9% of everything you earn over this amount. For example if you earn £27,000 per year, you’ll pay back £15 per month, but if your earnings increase to £35,000 per year, you’ll pay back £75 per month. If you never earn more than £25,000 per year, you’ll never pay back the loan. If your Advanced Learner Loan is being used to cover the fees for an Access to Higher Education course, and then you progress to a university-level (higher education) course and complete that as well, you will not have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan. Advanced Learner Loans are available to you if you: • are aged 19+ at the start of your course • are a resident in the UK • are studying an eligible course at level 3 or above (including QCF Certificates and Diplomas, and Access to Higher Education).
Higher Education Student Loan For students enrolling on university-level courses at the College, HE Student Loans are available if you’re a first time undergraduate. No repayments will be due on these loans until you’re earning over £25,000 per year. For more information about HE Student Loans, please visit www.gov.uk . Instalment Plans If you’re studying a course at level 3 or above and you don’t qualify for government funding or an advanced learner loan, we’ll be able to support you in arranging an instalment scheme to meet your individual circumstances. You will be asked to pay a minimum of 25% of the course fee on enrolment, after which an agreed regular instalment arrangement will begin, managed through our recurring card payment system.
** See our website for full terms and conditions and examples of qualifying state benefits or fully funded courses.
Please note: free courses are funded by various adult education funding schemes which are subject to change. The information in this guide is correct as of June 2026. Please see our website or speak to our Customer Services team for the latest information.
