HERE IF YOU NEED US To equip our adult students with everything you need to succeed during your time at the College, our award-winning CityPlym Community Support Hub offers mentorship, guidance, pastoral care, advice and all kinds of practical support if you need it.

Pastoral support: help and support with things like relationship problems, sexual health, pregnancy testing, pregnancy support, eating disorders, body image, self harm, loneliness, stress, anxiety, referrals to other services, and more. College Foodbank: if you’re facing financial hardship and poverty, we’re here to make sure you don’t go hungry. Our foodbank service provides fresh, frozen and dry provisions as well as food vouchers to help in emergencies. We also have a plentiful supply of clothing and personal hygiene products which are easily accessible via this service. Household help and fuel poverty: whether your family is struggling to keep up with the costs of heating, or you’re unable to access day to day essentials, please speak to us about how we can support you if financial hardship is impacting your living situation.

GET INVOLVED

Adult students who get involved are always more successful in their studies, so come and get stuck into College life! You could spend some time socialising in our Students’ Union, join a club or team for some fun activities, come along on an organised trip, or take advantage of your discount in Stars Hair & Day Spa and PL1 restaurant. We’d love you to be a part of our College community! If you’re studying during the daytime, you’ll find things like pool tables, table tennis, board games and more in our Students’ Union. Our student gym is open to all students for £40 per year and includes use of the pool facilities at Plymouth Life Centre.

Join one of our growing sports, craft clubs or interest groups for adult students to meet new people and enjoy the lighter side of College life. Come along on an organised adult students trip to shows, industry events, conferences, or even just for fun - like our annual trip to the Bath Christmas markets!

SUPPORTING YOU TO STUDY

We have a wealth of support on offer at City College Plymouth to help you focus on your studies and make the most of your time with us.

Free daily meal Every student, regardless of your age and household income, is entitled to a free meal on your timetabled days. Free breakfast for daytime students . Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 11.00am throughout term-time in the student food court. Free dinner for night school students . Monday to Thursday 5.00pm to 7.30pm throughout term-time in the STEM cafe. Bus travel All students carrying a valid College ID card receive free travel between the College, Plymouth Railway Station and the city centre using the Citybus number 36 service. Beryl Bikes Located at Kings Road, Picquet and TIMS, Beryl Bikes will provide you with a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel across the city, and to and from our various sites. To get started, all you need to do is download the Beryl Bikes app to your smartphone. The app will guide you through the simple process of signing up, finding available bikes, and unlocking them using your phone. Student Learning Fund Students aged 19 and over can apply for support from the Student Learning Fund if their household income is less than £30,000 per year. The Student Learning Fund can help towards the cost of: • childcare* (if your household income is under £35,000 you can apply for support with childcare costs) • compulsory course-related costs • IT equipment voucher • meals • travel - for students living more than three miles from the College. *Childcare support is not applicable to students who are in receipt of Universal Credit and working and already receiving childcare paid via the Universal Credit benefit.

Most of our students study for FREE! Don’t let the cost of studying stand in your way - depending on your eligibility, you may be able to join one of the thousands of City College Plymouth students who study for free. You may be entitled to a FREE level 1, 2 or 3 course if you: • are aged 19+ • have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years • are eligible to study in the UK according to the terms of your residency visa if applicable, provided your course will be completed before the end date of your visa • are earning less than £25,000 a year (gross salary), OR are unemployed, available for work and in receipt of state benefit • would like to study adult functional skills in English or maths, or essential digital literacy if your digital skills are assessed as being below level 1, even if you earn over £25,000 a year • would like to study GCSE English or GCSE Maths and you do not already hold grades 9 to 4 or A* to C in these subjects, even if you earn over £25,000 a year • are aged between 19 and 23 and this is your first eligible** full level 2 qualification, meaning that you don’t already have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or A* to C, a BTEC First Certificate or an NVQ Level 2, even if you earn over £25,000 a year • are aged between 19 and 23 and this is your first eligible** full level 3 qualification, meaning that you don’t already have the equivalent of two A Levels at grades A to C, a BTEC National Certificate/Diploma, Access to HE Diploma or an NVQ Level 3, even if you earn over £25,000 a year.

Most people think that you’re either born with the ability to understand maths, or you’re not … but that’s just not true! Joining one of our FREE* Maths Confidence courses will help you to: • shop savvy and make your money go further • understand how to get a bargain in the supermarket! • work out your budget and things like pension, rent or mortgage • help your children with their homework • improve your job and career prospects.

LOANS & INSTALMENT PLANS

If you’re studying a course at level 3 or above and you don’t qualify for government funding, we’ll be able to support you in arranging a loan or instalment scheme to meet your individual circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan An Advanced Learner Loan is a government loan scheme that will pay 100% of your course fees to the College, with no repayments due until you’re earning over £25,000 per year. If your Advanced Learner Loan is being used to cover the fees for an Access to Higher Education course, after which you progress to and complete a university-level (higher education) course, you will not have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan. Advanced Learner Loans are available to you if you: • are aged 19+ at the start of your course • are a resident in the UK • are studying an eligible course at level 3 or above (including QCF Certificates and Diplomas, and Access to Higher Education).

HE Student Loan For students enrolling on university-level courses, HE Student Loans are available if you’re a first time undergraduate. No repayments will be due on these loans until you’re earning over £25,000 per year. For more information about HE Student Loans, please visit www.gov.uk . Instalment Plans City College Plymouth offers an instalment plan option for those students paying full price for courses longer than ten weeks in duration. You will be asked to pay a minimum of 25% of the course fee on enrolment, after which an agreed regular instalment arrangement will begin, managed through our recurring card payment system.

Our one-year Access courses will give you the level 3 skills and qualifications you need to enrol on the degree course of your choice. We offer both in-person and online Access courses, preparing you for your university programme with the support of our dedicated and experienced Access to Higher Education teaching team. Our English and maths teams are determined to change that for you!
