Romance et détente à l’Auberge le Papillon Sauvage

Comment profiter du peu de temps que vous avez pour relaxer ? C’est simple, rendez visite à l’Auberge Le Papillon Sauvage et venez découvrir sa thématique de papillons. « Nouvellement rénovée, l’auberge dans la région touristique des Laurentides est située à cinq kilomètres de Sainte-Adèle et à deux kilomètres de Saint-Sauveur, a expliqué Sylvain Rocque, copropriétaire de l’auberge avec son conjoint Ian D’Oliveira. Située à une ou deux heures des villes de Montréal et d’Ottawa, respectivement, notre auberge est l’endroit parfait pour une fin de semaine paisible hors de la ville ou pour les voyageurs de l’étranger voulant profiter des plaisirs en nature au Québec et au Canada. » Se rendre à l’élégant bâtiment est bien simple. Il est situé près de l’autoroute 15, sur la route 117. Une fois sur les lieux, on se retrouve non seulement entouré d’une belle et vaste forêt, mais aussi sur les bords de la rivière à Simon. « C’est une très belle rivière, à l’eau très claire, disait M. Rocque. Nous avons, parmi tant d’autres choses, une aire de repos près de la rivière. » Les cinq charmantes chambres de l’auberge accueillent plusieurs résidents de l’Est ontarien tout au long de l’année. Plusieurs activités saisonnières s’offrent aux visiteurs. En hiver, les amateurs de ski sont choyés, puisque l’auberge se situe non loin de plusieurs superbes pentes de ski : Mont-Gabriel, Mont Saint-Sauveur, Mont Olympia etMont- Tremblant. Plusieurs sentiers pédestres, de ski de fond, de raquette et de patin sont offerts aux visiteurs, ainsi que le traineau à chiens. Après de telles activités, vous pourrez vous réchauffer devant un bon feu de foyer. En été, la région entourant l’auberge regorge de spectacles et de festivals. Plusieurs artistes francophones se produisent à la salle de spectacle de Saint-Sauveur, telle Véronic DiCaire. « Ils offrent aussi plusieurs spectacles hommage, a ajouté M. Rocque. De plus, le festival cubain, qui a lieu lors de la longue fin de semaine du travail en septembre, attire plusieurs visiteurs. Les amateurs de sensations fortes peuvent également se rendre au parc aquatique de Saint-Sauveur. Celui-ci offre une foule d’activités aquatiques et terrestres qui sauront plaire aux plus petits comme aux plus grands.
Il est bien facile de se détendre à l’Auberge Le Papillon Sauvage. À quelques pas, on retrouve deux spas nordiques : le Polar Bear’s Club et le Bagni Spa Station Santé. Ces deux installations offrent des services haut de gamme, dont divers genres de massages et des forfaits de détente. Également, on n’a pas à se rendre loin afin de relaxer puisque l’auberge offre à ses visiteurs l’usage d’un spa, d’un sauna et d’une piscine chauffée. Différents forfaits sont à votre disposition tel que la fin de semaine Romance et Spa. Une fin de semaine de détente ne serait pas complète sans des mets succulents, offerts par M. D’Oliveira, chef culinaire de l’établissement d’origine portugaise. « Il a réussi à créer un menu très apprécié par nos visiteurs, a dit M. Rocque. Nous offrons une table d’hôte cinq-services qui comportent trois choix de plats principaux. Nos repas sont tous préparés avec des aliments de première qualité et du terroir, avec une attention particulière à la présentation. » « Un déjeuner complet chaud et froid préparé avec des fruits frais et produits locaux est servi tous les matins, a expliqué le copropriétaire. Notre tabled’hôtegastronomique (Cinq services), dans notre charmante salle à manger décontractée, est offerte les samedis. » Ce ne sont pas que les couples en recherche de détente qui fréquente l’établissement. Celui-ci offre également un volet réception : mariages, fêtes familiales, occasion d’affaires, et peut accueillir un total de 60 personnes. La terrasse peut en accueillir plusieurs autres. Les propriétaires de l’auberge soulignent également qu’ils offrent l’exclusivité de l’auberge pour un forfait Escapade entre amis. « Nous offrons un forfait sur mesure, a dit M. Rocque. On invite un groupe d’amis à louer nos cinq chambres (Cinq chambres x deux personnes x deux nuitées). Ils n’ont donc pas à se soucier de déranger les autres. » Les visiteurs ont donc l’auberge entièrement pour eux. Des feux de camp, la piscine, le spa, un karaoké, des cocktails avec hors-d’œuvre et une table d’hôte sont disponibles!

The spring flooding of the Ottawa River has created a potential health hazard for a retired senior couple in Lefaivre, but they say no one is willing to help them. i"MMXFOFFEJTTPNFIFMQ uTBJE&MJTF Kabo, 82, as she and her husband Alexander, 81, (known as ”Alec” to family and friends) survey the sloping back yard of their water- front property on Domaine Road in Lefaivre, which is part of Alfred-Plantagenet Township. The grassy edge of the lawn is splitting away and sloughing down onto the sand of the debris-littered shoreline of the Ottawa River. The Kabo’s property ends where the sand begins. The actual shoreline of the river is Crown land, belonging to the federal government as part of a marine easement along the Ottawa River. Flood problem The couple moved from Ottawa to Le- faivre in 2006. Alec Kabo recalled that their shorefront property and others at the time VTFEUPCFDPSOàFMET8IFOUIFZCPVHIU their property, he said, no one told them that they were building their retirement home in a flood plain. But it had never been a problem before now. Like many other riverside residents, the Kabos watched as the Ottawa River rose and covered part of their property during the recent spring flood. Their house is located high upslope from the river so it was never in peril.

Kabo can’t do the work himself because of his age and health. He can’t afford to hire someone to do the work and even if he could, he said, the shoreline is federal property and going onto it to do any kind of repair or protection work for the septic field could leave him open to a charge of trespassing on Crown land. The situation has become exasperating for the couple. i8FSFTUSFTTFE uTBJE&MJTF,BCPi5IJT (repair) has to be done, and there is very little in our retirement fund.”
The problem for the Kabos is that they are on a septic system. The underground tank is safe and secure near the top of the backyard slope. But the septic field is downslope and that part of the yard was flooded this year. The scouring floodwaters eroded the edge of the property, causing the ground to slough as the river receded, putting the septic field at risk of exposure, thus creating a potential health hazard for the couple. Alec Kabo called the municipality at the start of the flood, about getting a sandbag dyke along the edge of the property to prevent river
erosion but was refused. “If they would have put a retaining wall there, I would not have the problem now,” he said. “It (sandbag dyke) would have contained the erosion on the river side.” Looking for help Since the flood waters receded, Alex Kabo has contacted all three levels of government about getting help to fix his property so that the septic field is contained and not at risk of a breach. But the municipal, provincial and federal governments have all declined responsibility.

Organizers promise a wide variety of Ontario’s native garlic species, and some exotics, will be available for connoisseurs of the potent perennial. – Gregg Chamberlain UCDSB BALANCES BUDGET The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) avoided a deficit budget for the next school year but had to cut back on some of its administrative, teaching, and support positions to do so. UCDSB trustees recently approved the 2019-2020. The UCDSB faced a possible $11.7 million deficit situation. Provincial regulations forbid deficit budgets for school districts. The approved budget will mean reductions in full- and part-time staffing across the district equal to 160 positions. Those staff reductions include administration, teaching, teacher and student support, office staff, and specialist positions.

Il a recommandé à la municipalité de s’asseoir avec ses adversaires pour faire valoir ses points et d’essayer de trouver un terrain d’entente. « Réfléchissez-y les membres du conseil ! Some of the outside brick work needs repair or replacing at the Vankleek Hill Public Library. “As council is aware, the exterior brick on the library is in poor condition,” stated James McMahon, Champlain Township public works director, in a report during the June 11 session. “The bricks at the top of the walls below the roof parapet exhibit the worst damage, as well as the brick of the chimney extension above the top of the roof.” McMahon’s report stated that the east and north walls of the building, at the corner of Union Street and Main Street, are the main concern with signs of spalling. Tiny fragments of the brick or mortar between bricks crack and break off. He noted that the east wall facing Union Street shows the most wear while the west wall, which faces UIF8JOETPS5BWFSO TFFNTUPCFJOHPPE condition. During the building’s past, McMahon observed, the exterior brick was cleaned but the washing method used was not the correct one and may have contributed to deterioration of the mortar in some places on the east wall. Replacement of some of the brick will take place this August, and Mc- Mahon’s department will use local bricklayer Michel Leroux for the task, because of his

Cette année, l’inondation printanière de la rivière des Outaouais a forcé le report de l’ouverture habituelle de la marina en mai. Mais malgré la décrue, la marina municipale a dû restée fermée jusqu’à ce que le ministère fédéral des Pêches et des Océans puisse inspecter le pont-jetée, pour s’assurer qu’il n’avait pas été endommagé par l’inondation. La marina est finalement ouverte et ce, à temps pour le début de l’été. Les propriétaires de bateaux avec des baux d’été sur les sites d’amarrage doivent maintenant vérifier que leurs quais sont en bon état et que les connexions de services sont prêtes pour la saison. La réouverture de la marina arrive à point nommé pour les entreprises locales de L’Orignal qui profiteront de l’achalandage touristique de la Fête du Canada.
Le temps n’a pas été tendre à l’endroit des murs extérieurs en briques de l’édifice de la Bibliothèque publique de Vankleek Hill. It also kept the L’Orignal marina closed past the expected May long week- end opening period for the summer boating season, and also left the beachfront area of L’Orignal Park in need of extra cleanup work. The township budget approved earlier this year did not include money for dealing with an unexpected natural disaster like the recent spring flood. The good news, according to Tessier, is that the cost for the township of this year’s flood is $59,000 as of the May 30 tally of expenses. The total cost for the

School districts in Eastern Ontario and other parts of the province are scrambling now to figure the poten- tial impact of a provincial government funding cut for education budgets. Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Lisa Thompson confirmed, on "QSJM UIBUUIF(FOFSBM4UVEFOU/FFET (4/ GVOEJOHGPSBMMTDIPPMEJTUSJDUCVE - gets in Ontario will see a modest cut for UIFUFSN5IF(4/JTUIF annual per student support funding that every school district receives as part of its annual budget calculations. 5IF(4/UPUBMGPSBMMPG Ontario’s school districts will be $24.66 billion. That works out to $12,246 per student for each school district. The per- QVQJM(4/BMMPDBUJPOGPSTDIPPMEJTUSJDUT for the 2018-2019 term was $12,299. The Education Ministry will also imple- ment a new Attrition Protection Allocation (APA) as part of school district funding for the next four years. The APA funding means a possible top-up for school districts where some of the provincial government’s other planned changes to Ontario’s education system, including larger class sizes and more reliance on e-learning, could affect district staffing.

ALEXANDRIA TEACHER HONOURED FOR EXCELLENCE
Julie Ménard-Brault will step down as finance director for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) at the end of this year, but she plans to have the first draft of the 2020 budget ready before then. Ménard-Brault has spent 35 years in financial affairs, including 12 years with the UCPR. During her past four years, she has served as the counties’ financial director. —photo Gregg Chamberlain

Lindsey Howes (centre), an intermediate teacher at Glengarry District High School, in Alexandria, received the Excellence in Teaching (Elementary Schools) Award from the Ontario Council for Technology Education, at its annual awards banquet May 10. She was honoured for her innovative methods for promoting science and technology, both in the classroom and throughout the school. Six élèves de l’École secondaire catho- lique de Plantagenet ont reçu des prix dans le cadre du concours Mon avenir, je le veux vert ! Ce concours a été lancé pour la première fois par EscarpAction Jessup’s Falls, un organisme sans but lucratif local qui œuvre pour la protection du patrimoine naturel, auprès des élèves de la 7 e et de la 8 e année. Le but est d’amener les jeunes à imaginer des gestes concrets à poser au quotidien pour améliorer leur environnement. Les lauréates parmi les élèves de 7 e année sont Valérie Gagnon Côté Lalonde en première place avec une chanson, Émilie Beauchamp en deuxième avec sa peinture et Emma Clément a reçu le troisième prix avec une maquette.
