This time of year gives us so many reasons to get together with family and friends – we’re tossing hats at graduations, toasting the bride and groom at weddings, taking vacations with our families, and enjoying laughs and great food at casual backyard barbecues. All of these moments give us a chance to make great memories with those most important to us; it’s no accident that they also inspire so many of our Precious Moments gifts and figurines! We also have some exciting Precious Moments events this Summer, like artist signings, the Disney convention, and of course our annual Family Reunion Event at the Precious Moments Chapel. A MESSAGE FROM PRECIOUS MOMENTS CREATOR, SamButcher
Dear Beloved Friends,
While I was in the Philippines earlier this year, I was unexpectedly faced with a cardiac procedure and major surgery. While the care team was excellent, there was a bit of uncertainty. Yet, I was never alone, for my faith and trust remained in the Lord. My family has shared that they spent countless hours in prayer, talking with the doctors and each other. Words cannot express how honored, humbled, and grateful I am for all of their prayers and yours. During this difficult time, I realized it was important for me to accept my shortcomings, discard blame, and seek forgiveness. Faulting others for our shortcomings is as old as the story of Adam and Eve. She attributes the sin to evil, and Adam blames her. The story goes on even to this day. There is a special mural in Philip’s room at the Chapel that tells the story of Philip as he stands beside an angel at Heaven’s Gate. In the mural, there is a shelf of some of Philip’s favorite things. One of them is a moose that once was his imaginary friend. He loved that little moose, and it was clear that they were the best of friends. When Philip did something naughty and we confronted him, he would say, “I didn’t do it. The moose did,” and he would not confess or accept responsibility. Confession can be cleansing at any age, but it cannot come without humility. In 1 John 1:9 we learn, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Confessing our shortcomings to one another, if it’s done with true humility, is as honest as saying, “I was wrong.” “It was my fault.” “Please forgive me.” My message to you is, accept, confess, and pray. As one of the Original 21 Precious Moments figurines reminds us, prayer changes things. I am thankful to share that all your prayers did change things in my life, and I am growing in strength every day. As we look forward to seeing each other at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Precious Moments Chapel this July, I respectfully ask you to continue in prayer. I will do the same. Just as you prayed for me, let us pray for each other, our families, and Precious Moments.

Reuniting and it Feels so Good Are you attending the annual Precious Moments Family Reunion Event? Each year Precious Moments enthusiasts from around the world gather in Carthage, Missouri to learn, dine, share, and make memories. This year’s pre- registered Event will be held July 17 – 19. The Chapel staff is eager to see you there!
Three Decades of Memories On June 19, 1989, the Precious Moments Chapel opened its doors, inviting guests to behold 54 murals, hand-painted by Sam Butcher. Since then, the Chapel has unveiled the Phillip D. Butcher Memorial Room, Tim Ryan Memorial Room, beautiful bronze fountains, and countless special exhibits, mural additions, and improvements. Chapel tours have remained free of charge for visitors, and everyone is encouraged to experience the Chapel and grounds at their leisure, exploring the art and reflecting on life’s blessings. As the new person on the block at Precious Moments, I want to say how happy I am to be here! What a great company, timeless brand, and wonderful team to work with. Let me first start by thanking Steve “Kos” Kosmalski for his out- standing leadership of this company over the past four years and for handing over the helm so professionally. I have worked with and for Kos earlier in my career, and he has taught me much about leadership, passion, and hard work during our years together. I wish him and his wonderful family much enjoyment in the next phase of his life, which he so richly deserves. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work on behalf of truly great consumer brands, and Precious Moments may be the most powerful one yet! Never before have I been associated with a brand that evokes such positive emotion from so many people. Still, after 40-plus years, Precious Moments continues to have tremendous relevance and meaning among its dedicated followers, such as Club Members like you. A Collector 's Story
For some people, Precious Moments collecting is a fun hobby. For others, Precious Moments has allowed them to meet new people, explore new places, and express the emotions they feel in their hearts. Then there are those people whose lives have been intricately intertwined with the very spirit of Precious Moments. Long time Precious Moments employee, Karen Jones, is one of those people. She shares what Precious Moments means to her.
I began collecting Precious Moments more than 30 years ago when one of my best friends gave me two of the Original 21 figurines, E1372B and E1372G – the Jesus Loves Me boy and girl figurines – for my birthday. From that day on I loved Precious Moments and those figurines continue to be very special pieces to me. Another favorite was given to me from my parents, 12009 Love Covers All . One of my earliest Precious Moments memories dates back to the mid-1980s. I had joined a local Collectors’ Club at a Springfield, MO area store, and they were going to have an event with a special guest. It was going to be Mr. Butcher! I knew that I wanted to meet him and when I did, it solidified my love of Precious Moments. A few years later, my sisters told me that they had heard that Mr. Butcher and Precious Moments were going to be building the Chapel in Carthage, MO. They suggested I apply for a job when the time came. Along with my application, I wrote a letter about how much I loved Precious Moments and what it meant to me. I was so excited when I received the call to come out for an interview. I already had a job at the time, and the only time I could make it was on a Saturday. Mrs. Terri Heckmaster (who now serves as President of the Foundation) was so gracious and agreed to interview me
on a Saturday. It turned out to be quite the memorable interview! Terri was going to interview me at one of the houses on the Chapel grounds due to construction taking place to complete the Chapel and Visitor Center. When I arrived for my interview, Terri and I set off the security alarms! I remember thinking, “Oh, this is a great thing to happen at my interview!” After a few weeks I was excited to receive a call to come in for a second interview. While the first interview was low-key with just Terri and myself, when I arrived for the second interview there seemed to be hundreds of people lining the stairs of the Visitor Center waiting to be interviewed. When my turn came, I was taken to an office and introduced to several Butcher family members as "the lady who wrote the letter". Thankfully, they seemed very impressed with me and my letter. The rest is history! I was offered a job and I started working for the Precious Moments Chapel Gift Shoppe on June 9, 1989 and I am still here today, many positions later. Most of the significant moments in my adult life have included Precious Moments. From meeting my husband (he was a security guard) to our two wonderful sons, my coworkers have shared in these many memories and blessings. Precious Moments truly has been a second family for me.

What began as a small collection of figurines, 21 to be exact, has grown into something much larger. Some may have thought Precious Moments would be just a passing fad, but now, more than 40 years later, the message of Samuel J. Butcher’s artwork continues to live on. Precious Moments is just as relevant today as it was in 1978, inspiring people to stay connected with friends, family, and neighbors, to make their communities better, and to share love with one another. Did you know that the Precious Moments Chapel welcomes more than 250,000 visitors a year? There are 400 guests who attend the Reunion Event each year alone! Precious Moments Cruises host 150 – 200 people each time they embark, plus countless fans attend artist signings and events throughout the country. But you don’t have to even leave the house to feel connected. The official Precious Moments Facebook page is 150,000 fans strong and growing.
