QUALITY PERFORMANCE AWARDS WINNER:
QUALITY PERFORMANCE AWARDS WINNER: Excellence in Health, Safety and Wellbeing LOWRY BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING Exemplified by its motto ‘Build Better, Build Safe!’ Lowry Building & Civil Engineering (LBCE) embeds health, safety and wellbeing into all aspects of its operations. Demonstrating measurable improvements in performance, engagement and culture over the last 12 months, its commitment extends beyond employees to include project partners and wider site teams. In the last five years, spend on training has increased by over 900%, evolving from mandatory, core elements into a wider programme supporting team professional development. Health and safety (H&S) audits have risen by 58% to 133 in the last year, boosting LBCE’s average audit score, ‘good-catch’ and ‘near-miss’ reporting, reducing workplace accidents by 50%. Proactive reporting is viewed as a key indicator of engagement and learning, with a strengthened reporting culture including simple QR codes and reporting software. A plant awareness initiative has engaged over 210 employees, subcontractors, clients and consultants in hands-on safety training. Innovation has also played a key role through dynamic digital risk assessments on iPads and management training for 40% of the workforce. Quarterly mental health stand-downs and an active wellbeing programme, meanwhile, reinforce the company ethos that a healthier, connected workforce is a safer workforce, with workshops held on topics such as nutrition and physical health.
Excellence in Training WATER SOLUTIONS IRELAND
An excellent training culture at Water Solutions Ireland serves as a driver of company wellbeing, innovation and performance. Embedded throughout the business, workforce development is focused on strong, measurable and business-critical outcomes. Impressive statistics include 92% staff retention, 90% graduate conversion rate and a 10-15% reduction in absenteeism following the implementation of wellbeing initiatives. From January 2023 to January 2025, 12 employees completed early careers pathways with nine progressing toward chartership. Structured pathways, peer mentoring and system-driven development ensure consistent capability growth across all roles, supported by external recognition such as Apprentice of the Year at the WiB NI Awards 2026. Commitment to workforce wellbeing includes three mental health first aiders, partnership with the Lighthouse Charity and occupational health surveillance health checks. An innovation-led approach includes the Safe Solutions platform, supporting pre-site training, competency checks and approvals, which has reduced induction time by 78% while improving readiness, assurance and safe decision-making in live environments. Enhanced digital capability, including BIM coordination and tools, has reduced design clashes and rework, improving productivity and programme certainty. Formal training was expanded from 468 hours in 2024 to 616 hours in 2025, through chartership mentoring, professional memberships and paid study leave. Future-focused development, meanwhile, includes carbon literacy, biodiversity awareness and planned SustainIQ implementation.
