QUALITY PERFORMANCE AWARDS WINNER: Social Value Project BSG CIVIL ENGINEERING CULTRA TREE CONSERVATION, HOLYWOOD Uniting people, skills and organisations to create a lasting benefit for the community and environment, the Cultra Tree Conservation project embodies social value. NI Water presented BSG, principal contractor on its Wastewater Pumping Station Base Maintenance Programme of Works for over a decade, with the community investment opportunity to support environmental charity The Conservation Volunteers. Volunteers had no irrigation infrastructure for their work at Cultra, focused on cultivating native trees. BSG provided an automated rainwater collection and irrigation system, featuring a 3000L twin-pump rainwater harvesting setup equipped with a user-friendly programmable controller, overhead sprinklers and drip-feed lines. Increasing capacity from 10,000 to 50,000 trees annually, the solution has reduced volunteer labour by 18 hours per week.
