BELL CONTRACTS BLOCK G ULSTER UNIVERSITY, COLERAINE
P&K MCKAIGUE CHAPLAINCY RESTORATION, QUB
Bell Contracts’ outstanding fit-out combined technical complexity, workmanship and a disciplined programme in a demanding live-campus environment. Overcoming significant access and logistical constraints while adjacent parts of the campus remained operational, the contractor achieved an exceptional standard of finish with minimal disruption. The £2.9m project transformed Ulster University’s Block G Optometry and Wet Laboratory including teaching, public-facing clinical areas, circulation and social spaces. Works included structural alterations, asbestos removal and installation of extensive mechanical and electrical services. Strong client engagement and collaboration with the University, design team, specialist subcontractors and supply chain ensured the completed scheme met academic, operational requirements.
Restoration Project of the Year has been awarded to P&K McKaigue Ltd for its major restoration and extension works, delivering a high-level finish, at the B-listed Catholic Chaplaincy on Elmwood Avenue in Belfast. Works to the modernist landmark included refurbishment of its main Corpus Christi Chapel, construction of a new Quiet Chapel, multipurpose spaces, offices, toilet facilities, kitchen servery and 47 modern student studios in new wing extensions, and a landscaped courtyard. Many religious artefacts were also removed and refurbished, with the project providing high-quality student accommodation along with a welcoming café-style reception area, meeting facilities and dedicated pastoral zones.
