MEP contractor NUGENT has maximised BIM 3D modelling and offsite manufacturing to successfully deliver a high-quality, energy-efficient MEP package at Shimna Integrated College. Mechanical services encompass mechanical heat recovery units, natural ventilation supplied by windcatchers and local extract ventilation to toilets and kitchens. Central services include air-handling plant serving the kitchen, gas- fired boilers and domestic hot water calorifiers and the Building Management System, while underfloor heating was provided throughout. Alongside domestic and sanitary public health installations, NUGENT also supplied a rainwater harvesting system for toilet flushing, laboratory gas and compressed air, local fume extraction and mobile re-circulating fume cupboards for science rooms. Electrical services include main LV infrastructure, local distribution boards, small power and data installation, interactive touch screens and PV to ensure the building meets the latest carbon-saving targets. Lighting, lighting controls and protection, emergency and external lighting were provided, as well as protective services including fire, disabled refuge, disabled toilet and intruder alarms, and security, door access, induction loop and CCTV systems.

Project management & QS Hood McGowan Kirk LLP (HMK) managed the Integrated Consultant Team tasked with delivering the new Shimna Integrated College building, providing project management and quantity surveying services from inception to completion.

Phased construction periods were carefully managed so the school could remain operational throughout with no disruption to curriculum delivery.
