About The Center Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology (WGCIT) is a place for promising start-ups and companies in the agtech industry. It is a collaborative effort between Western Growers Board of Directors, WG members, sponsors, investors, and CIT residents to invent and utilize technology in order to feed more people, while using fewer inputs and leaving a smaller footprint on the world. The Center offers opportunities to network and collaborate with industry leaders in the heart of Salinas, California— the “Salad Bowl of the World.” By partnering with WG members, innovators will be able to help solve critical problems facing the ag industry. Through the Center, agriculture leaders will be able to prioritize opportunities, vet start- ups and technology companies, set up technology testing and facilitate industry feedback, and communicate progress for California, Arizona and Colorado fresh produce farmers. The Center is a bustling hub of creativity, exchange and development coupled with events, demonstrations, and talks designed to accelerate needed technology for the fresh produce industry.
About Western Growers Western Growers was founded in 1926 in California’s Imperial Valley. At the time, we were called the Western Growers Protective Association, and our mission was to fight for fair transportation rates for the agricultural industry. Western Growers Association brought the industry together to support a common goal with the philosophy that there is strength in numbers. As the organization has expanded to provide a lobbying voice in state and federal government, affordable health benefits, PACA support, legal and human resources guidance and more, this philosophy continues to guide our growth. Since 1926, Western Growers has represented local and regional family farmers growing fresh produce in Arizona and California, and now Colorado, too. WG members provide half the nation’s fresh fruits, vegetables and tree nuts, including a third of America’s fresh organic produce. Some members also farm throughout the U.S. and in other countries so people have year- round access to nutritious food. Western Growers exists to satisfy one mission— to enhance the competitiveness and profitability of our members. As a resident of the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology, you also receive regular membership to Western Growers Association. Please see the attached Member Guide outlining the benefits of WG membership.

Regional Profile California’s Salinas Valley is known for its vibrant agriculture industry and as the hometown of writer and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate John Steinbeck, who based several of his novels there, including Of Mice and Men . Located just 60 miles south of Silicon Valley, the region is home to a $9 billion agriculture industry. Known as “The Salad Bowl of the World,” the Salinas Valley is responsible for growing roughly 70% of the nation’s lettuce, as well as broccoli, mushrooms, strawberries and numerous other produce crops. If it has anything to do with agriculture, it’s happening in Salinas. Salinas has also earned a global reputation as an agriculture and innovation hub. Both iceberg lettuce and bagged salad, which revolutionized the fresh food industry, were invented in this region. Home to a USDA Agricultural Research Station and the Steinbeck Innovation Foundation, Salinas is a hotbed for agricultural research and resources. Salinas is the ideal place for agribusinesses and technology

Salinas has the cleanest air of any city in California, ranking 6th in the entire country for air quality. The Salinas Valley is home to spectacular scenery, from breathtaking mountains and valleys, to the beauty of the sun, sand, sea and soil. Salinas is the regional trade center for California’s Central Coast counties, and the industrial, commercial
companies alike to leverage California’s natural resources and innovative environment. The Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology plays a critical role in this collaboration.

Cherry Bean Gourmet Coffeehouse & Roastery 332 Main Street Locally owned and operated coffee roaster serves espresso beverages, pastries, and breakfast burritos. First Awakenings 171 Main Street Local breakfast favorite, known for their customizable specialty pancakes. They were voted “Best Breakfast in Monterey County,” but also serve hearty lunch options. Access The Taylor Building employs two 24-hour security guards on staff who will be there to grant access into the main building. Once inside, you will need a key FOB to enter the WGCIT suite. Residents will be issued one key per space rented, and will require a contact person to be on file as responsible for the card. You may share the key card amongst multiple users, but the contact person will ultimately be responsible for the key card and its usage. Please do not rely on WG staff or other residents to grant you access to the CIT suite. If you do need to be let in, please be prepared to show identification. WGCIT hours are from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., seven days per week. WG staff will usually be on-site on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. For special instances requiring after-hours access, please contact WG staff. Work Space Resident Work Stations Your workstation comes equipped with a top-of-the-line ergonomic, adjustable chair, hidden power outlets, plugs for wired internet, and, by request, a VoIP phone line. Additionally, you will have a personal, locked cabinet to store your files or devices. This comes with two keys —please be sure to keep both safe. WG staff does not have a master key to open your cabinet should you lose both keys, and you will be charged for the cost of opening/replacing the locked cabinet in that event.

Conference Room
Our state-of-the-art conference room is available for your use by appointment. We offer wireless laptop display onto our big-screen TV, as well as voice and video conferencing. We have a conference room scheduling device located on the wall to the right of the conference room. It is connected to an Outlook calendar managed by WG staff. If the room is in use, the lights on the sides of the display panel will glow red. If it is available, the lights will be green. To view availability, simply walk up to the display. The screen will come on automatically. Push “day view,” and the calendar will appear. You can use the arrows on the right side to scroll up and down through time slots of the day, and the day buttons on the left side to scroll through different dates. If you see an available time you would like to book, please let WG staff know, and we will block off the time on the corresponding Outlook calendar. You can also push the “reserve now” button if the room is available and you have an Jennifer or Stephanie to inquire about availability. Alternately, you can send an Outlook calendar invite for your desired appointment time to wgic_conference1@ wginnovation.com. Please make sure to include your name and company in the subject line. If the room is already booked, you will receive an automatic calendar decline informing you of the time conflict. Finally, please keep in mind that this is immediate appointment come up. In order to enable the app to print from your Gmail, you will need to log into your Gmail account online and manually update your security settings. Go to “My Account > Sign In & Security > Connected Apps & Sites” and switch “Allow less secure apps” to “ON” position. (You can switch back to the default security setting immediately after printing.) To make copies, simply feed paper face-up into the top feeder of the copy machine, or place face down on the glass face. Use the arrows to move the number of copies up or down, or press on the cursor box and enter the desired number of copies. Then press either “Black” or “Color” to begin the job. Printer/Copier/Fax Basic printing, copying, and faxing can be done on site using our HP Color Jet Pro. Please take care of large printing or scanning jobs off site. Western Growers operates an in-house print shop in Irvine that offers services at competitive pricing for WGCIT residents on specialty printing projects. Please encourage anyone who will be sending a fax to include a cover sheet detailing the intended recipient of the fax and the number of pages. Faxes will be distributed by WG staff to the appropriate recipient upon receipt. Sending Faxes 1. Insert pages into the top feeder, print side facing up. 2. Select “Fax” on home screen menu. 3. On-Site Kitchen & Coffee
We offer an on-site refrigerator, sink, coffee and tea for your enjoyment. We also provide cups, flatware, condiments, and cleaning supplies. Please help to keep this area tidy for everyone by washing any dishes immediately after use and cleaning up any spills. Additionally, please be mindful of your refrigerator items and don’t leave food in the fridge for long periods of time. The fridge will be cleaned out every Monday morning and anything spoilable that was left over the weekend will be discarded. Depending on the time of day, there is typically free 2-hour street parking available. In order to reduce the amount of waste we send to the landfill, Taylor Farms Building management developed a comprehensive waste management program that includes mixed recycling and electronic waste (e-waste) collection. There is a color coded program to help you determine which waste stream your waste belongs in. For further questions please contact Nicole Flewell at (831) 277-7054 or nflewell@taylorfarms.com.

Waste going to the landfill to be in dark colored bags. We support Hope Services, a local non- profit. One way we help support them is through e-waste donations. Hope Services collects e-waste, working or not. Acceptable e-waste includes: computers, monitors, computer cables, mice, keyboards, VCRs, faxes, radios, printers, telephones, televisions, CPUs, monitors, stereos, speakers, DVD players, and cell phones. The WG Center for Innovation & Technology will host regular events designed to improve networking and collaboration between our residents and our members. Our monthly CEO-level talks will give our residents insight as to the needs and priorities of WG members and the ag industry as a whole. Additionally, our regular Tech Talks will offer an opportunity for start-ups to present their offerings to Western Growers members in order to facilitate feedback, training and mentorship from an agriculture industry perspective. Through our events, the WGCIT will showcase the best of current ag technology and foster collaboration between everyone working in, working with, and benefiting from the ag tech industry. Not only do we share this space with each other, we share it with potential clients, potential investors, and visitors as well. While we believe it is important for you to make your workspace “your own,” the collaborative nature of our office layout makes your desk more visible to others, so please limit your personal belongings and ensure that they are not distracting to anyone else. WG is not responsible for any personal belongings. Here are some tips on common workplace etiquette that will help us settle in. Bottom line: be considerate of others, and leave it better than you found it. Most importantly, we want the WGCIT to be a great place to work. So have fun, collaborate, generate, and innovate!

Sound Advice • Please be sensitive to your neighbors and limit your noise levels. • Avoid using speakerphones at your workstations. • Don’t scream across the workspace. Use email, messenger, or walk over to the person you want to speak to. • Please keep cell phones on vibrate. Privacy and Quiet Time • Send the right signals. If you don’t want to be disturbed, please post a sign or put on your headphones. • Don’t loiter. If someone’s busy, especially if they’re on the phone, come back later. • Unless you are asked to, don’t look at other residents’ computer screens. Feedback • If something is broken or out of stock please report it to WG staff immediately. • Please give us your feedback! We want to meet your needs and make sure that the Center is a great place for you to spend your work day.
