Don’t miss out on a great experience of playing local country club courses. If you are 55+, you can join NVRMGA and do that! ANCC will field two teams, one at Arlington and one at Fairfax. Both teams are always looking for new players. The ANCC Arlington team was the league champion in 2015 and 2010, and co-champions with the ANCC Fairfax team in 2011. In 2016, the ARL team finished in 2nd place and the FFX team finished in 7th place. Also in 2016, the FFX team tied ARL at the Arlington course and defeated them at the FFX course. Both teams are looking forward to successful seasons in 2017. The 2017 ANCC teams will be put together within the next few months, so there is still time for you to sign up. How? Click here before 31 January 2017 for the ARL Team, and click here by 1 March 2017 for the FFX Team. Even if you were a NVRMGA player last year, it is required you sign-up again. A contact list will be posted on the golf bulletin board in each ANCC pro shop whereby eligible ANCC golfers not currently part of a team, but wishing to join us in 2017, can express interest. How does NVRMGA work? We play 12 opposing teams twice, once at home and once away between early April and mid-October. Play is on Thursdays, teeing off at 8:45 AM (home) and either 8:45/9:00 (away). 2017 Men’s Spring & Summer ‘A’ Teams The Virginia State Golf Association Men’s Regular A-Team spring season for Northern Virginia will start in late March/early April, and the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Regular A-Team summer season takes place in July. The A-Team is a highly competitive scratch match play competition between clubs in Northern Virginia. Army Navy Country Club strives to field the best team possible for each match. Each match consists of 11 amateurs and 1 professional from each club. The A-team roster consists of amateurs with less than a 5.0 handicap index. We use performance in our club tournaments (e.g., Match Play and Stroke Play Championships), tournament experience at the national, state, and local levels, past A-Team participation, and handicap to identify the strongest team. If you didn’t have a chance to play in the ANCC championships last year, you are new to the club, or want to show what improvements you’ve made since last year, you should consider playing in a two-day A-Team tryout will be held on Saturday, 11 March and Sunday, 12 March at Arlington. If you can play both days that would be great, but we recommend playing one of the two days. At the completion of the two tryout rounds, the team roster for Spring 2017 will be set. If have any questions about the ANCC Men’s ‘A’ Team, please contact Steve Galing at (703) 407-0703 or Steven.e.Galing.civ@mail.mil

ANCC’s Fort Richardson – A Civil War Artifact Did You Know? For many ANCC members, the name Fort Richardson is related only to the social room on the third floor of the Club House. Additionally, Fort Richardson is an existing vestige of President Lincoln’s “Defenses of Washington”, the main line of defense for protection of the City. That large mound just off Memorial Drive near the Red 9 green is a visible sign of what once was one of a series of 68 small to medium fortifications encircling Washington. Fort Richardson was built in 1861 on the highest elevation on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. The fort was constructed of timbers and earthen works, and it had an inside perimeter of 316 yards that was armed with 13 pieces of field artillery. For more information on Fort Richardson and the ANCC Foundation’s efforts to publicize and memorialize Fort Richardson and other elements of the Club’s history, please click here . Be an ANCC Ambassador Word of Mouth Referral is the best way to bring new Members to the Club!
