Opinion: I'mWritingThisFromMyBunker Aloha Jolly-dabbers, I don’t know if you read the news on your phone, but apparently the whole world is going to shit! Did you hear about that? Yea. First my KIA dies and now this. I dunno, I’m typically a pretty optimis- tic guy about stu, maybe it’s all the wax I roll with my doobies. But now I’m not sure. And to show you just how unsure I am, I’m writ- ing this frommy underground bunker! So I had this huge hole in the back of the yard from when I tried to dig my own pool, remember that? Huge ordeal. rewmy back out for a whole week or two. But the other day I was lookin’ at the thing, thinkin', dang, I gotta do something with this thing, when I had an epiphany that I could probably t a couch down here. And sure enough then I got a few other things like an old TV and that old coee table with the three legs, and made er' all nice and cozy. en I got to thinkin', man, if I just throw a few sheets of plywood over this thing I’ve got myself a pretty good bunker. Only problem was, I didn’t know how to seal it o. Or really what to put over it. And it ended up getting pretty muddy aer the rst time it rained hard. ‘Course, all the electricity went out and the TV stoppedwor- kin’. I didn’t have much for emergency food stored in there yet except for a big bowl of Cheetos, and those got mad soaked. I still ate em’, or a couple of 'em, but it was terrible, it was terrible. But yea, now that the world’s goin’ to hell, I feel pretty good knowin’ I got an extra layer of protection, a place to chill when it all goes down. Might not survive a bomb, or even baseball bats or sts or acid rain, or any rain, but yea, it’s a legit bunker, at least there’s that. Kinda dull, not gonna lie. I'm really not sure how I’d possibly make it through a legit war if I couldn’t plug in for some Elden Ring. And until I get a new extension cord, that ain’t hap- penin’ anytime soon in this bunker. Now I feel like all those people did back when they thought the bomb was gonna be droppin’. Just wait for the alarm to sound and duck and cover right?is is real, bro, this is happening. You gotta have a contingency plan. Plus, I got some tasers back here behind the couch, but I’m afraid to try ‘em out until the mud dries. OTHER HEADLINES

Book Ban Crushes Nearly 0% of Bookworms Approximately zero people were outraged last week when a ban was placed on Judy Plume’s Facts: e Book of Real ings , for its “relative- ly palatable” depiction of things that actually happened. e novel, available in a multitude of quick and simple delivery styles from digital to print, may see a dip in library use where restrictions apply. However, this is likely to go unnoticed by the general population, who have turned most libraries into free-range rodent sanctuaries behind locked doors. While controversial, polls show the new rules aect almost 0% of readers, nearly zero of whom showed up for a recent protest. e ban is also seen as symbolic, given that nobody has read a physical book since the late aughts, andmost are merely used for decoration. Plume was irate over the whole ordeal. “It's almost as sad as the royalty checks,” she said. “But that’s why I work at Orange Julius now.”

HOUSINGOFFERS NOWLISTINGOWNERS BY THE DOZEN

It felt like nding secret treasure. “I was like, if we’re doing it, why aren’t other people doing it?” asks Shawna Monson, a home buyer who recently purchased a house amidst a whirlwind of mortgage madness. ere’s just one catch. Monson’s “secret” trick was a strategy now being employed in metros across the country: She went in on the house with roughly 53 other co-residents. “I’d been outbid over 100 times, and thought about living in an RV,” she says. “at’s when I decided to throw my lot in with dozens of people I’d met at the DMV.”

Shawna Monson (center, standing) celebrates buying a home with 50+ acquaintances.

During a historical housing crunch, exac- erbated by generational shis, and supply chains and employee shortages, prices are shooting higher (420%) than ever before. Al- together it has put the possibility of owning a home completely out of reach, while almost completely limiting mobility. Experts suggest the only solution is to join nances with no less than 37 other buyers. In the hottest real estate markets, bidders now routinely oer around one-million dollars over asking, with nearly everything, including a le testicle, due with oers, which average 1000 in count per listing. “It was under these circumstances that we decided to lock in a 4.20% rate for buyer-groups,” says loan ocer Dana Sacia of Wells Fargo, a lender well-known for its brutally-violent onboarding process. “Disclosures include enslavement of the undersigned’s unborn children. It’s not a great deal, but it’s still bet- ter than most conventional programs.”

“e loan works with anyone from 25 to 60 people; the more, the better,” Sacia says. Although not luxurious by any standards, the resulting living conditions are completely non-luxurious. “We make it work,” Monson claims, now sleeping in the foyer on her mat- tress near some communal plastic furniture. “We’ve had very few issues, other than the septic disaster.” ere are so many people in the current house, that those who congregate in front haven’t even intermingled with those living in the back of the house (the “backers”). Originally a 2-bed 1-bath bungalow, most closets in the house are now bedrooms. e residents reportedly sleep in shis. “We’re makin’ it work, we’re totally succeeding,” Monson says, clutching a slow-burning blunt in shaking hands, “I just wish we knew who keeps taking the toothbrushes.” “Now we just all use each others’ tooth- brushes,” she adds, “It’s pretty gnar.”

LOCALMANWARNSNEIGHBORSABOUT "GORGAMORFIN"

An artist's rendering of the vile beast spotted in the west woods, whom some locals have named the "Gorgamorn."

T here’s a slight lilt of unease tonight in the town of Shwaggerton, aer a leaked report sparked a community-wide publicity push to warn residents about a giant, ratty monster spotted lurking in the wooded area to the west. Led by activist and local sasquatch nut Derrick Rickens, the campaign has swept the area, causing local leaders to raise a marginally-heightened alert. Word rst let slip of a “sighting” that had rst gone unreported in local news. But once it was well-known around smaker's circles, reports of other sightings began pouring in. According to the report, an unnamed man was walking his dog in the woods aer smak- ing a gigantic heap of Tangilope, when he he witnessed a glowing monstrous apparition crawling through the trees, shrieking and ominous. e man ran for his house, became lost, then ran through the neighborhood, believing the monster was chasing him. It wasn’t until hours later that he realized the only thing chasing him was his dog.

He later described the ghoul to an artist, whose rendition was printed on posters that Mr. Rickens himself hung across town. Rickens labeled the beast "Gorgamorn" and claims it terrorized his buddy's farm ani- mals. He also "found" tracks up on Budder Hill. “ey’re not like any tracks we’ve ever seen,” admitted Ranger Lydia Jones. “It’s as if someone was carefully stepping atop deer tracks, in size-11 shoes with medium-tread.” “It’s somewhat terrifying to consider,” Jones said. “At least, alone in the dark.” “Aer extensive research, we concluded there likely is no Gorgamorn, and that Rickens is likely mis-referencing the 'De- mogorgon' from Stranger ings ,” the city announced in a press release. Yet, ocials say they are slightly monitoring the situation. “I think we’re all a little high from that haze wax,” added Jones, “so although they’ve mostly ruled out the Gorgamorn, it's proba- bly best to walk in pairs and carry ashlights. Especially when blazed.”

Bay's BudCruise Runs Ashore 50 FathomsOut

Study concludes CT Poet Laureate used Magnetic Poetry for all renowned works A joint study by Snoxford University English and AI Studies departments suggests that most, if not all of Dankston Hughes' famous pieces were as- sembled by chance from boxes of Magnetic Po- etry. "e poems are a mish-mash of poetic con- cepts bearing no resem- blance to anything," says professor Reshma Gupta. "When we compare the randomly-constructed phrases with collections of Magnetic Poetry found at a nearby yard sale, al- gorithms suggested the writer's greatest works were directly transcribed from his fridge." Industry presents 12th Annual Burned-Out Aer- noon of Junk Food in SwelteringHeat Featuring Local Ga- rage Band Festival It's back, yet again! e local cannabis industry, which employs nearly half of Cannatown's residents, is throwing yet another festival in the sweltering heat this com- ing Sunday aernoon, featuring a local garage band, and a whole series of two competitions, in- cluding the "Most Mer- chandise Buyer" Award.

Passengers of the crashed Bud Bay Cruise loot goods and evacuate simultaneously.

Pandemonium seems to have struck on the east banks of Can- natown Bay. A party cruiseline ship, destined for a joy-ride around the harbor, crashed just moments aer departure in what witnesses described as “a B-line for the rocks.” Although there don’t appear to be any major injuries, it would appear most passengers are leaving the boat now, on their own accord, carrying what nuggetry and novelties they can carry. e Bay Bud Cruise cruise, which operates weekdays out of Cannatown Marina, prom- ises all-you-can-smake bud and dab service as you tour the city waterways. e boat is known for full buets of infused feasts including glazed ham and let mignon. Each passenger’s chair has a built-in hookah hose con- stantly owing with the Durban Poison and other great smake burned in the vessel’s main chambers. A cloud of think vel- vety vapor hangs everywhere;

simply to stand aboard, is to be blazed. It’s unclear, then, how the boat smashed into the shore just mo- ments aer departure. “e captain was just yell- ing, shit, shit! And whirling the wheel all over the place. Nobody really knew who he was, maybe it was his rst day?” reported a crew member seen departing the ship. No one else dressed as captain or crew members have been spotted, although it’s likely they’ve nihilistically blended in with the others, who are cur- rently still looting the ship. e Bud Bay Cruise line is also infamous for its crashing into shore, which happens up to 5 times per week. At 50 fathoms, today’s crash is fairly successful, falling ahead of the bell curve in terms of distance from port. e shortest such crash came last year around this time, when it was accidentally launched in reverse, partially smashing the concrete wall behind it.

RespondersWorking Triple Shis inMoldy Jelly Donuts Case Emergency personnel are working around the clock aer it was determined that a local shipment of donuts--sold across town, in- cluding to emergency personnel--contained jelly-lled donuts with what appeared to be dark mold spots on their under-carriage. Closer examination suggested that three out of four were contaminated, and what’s more, there were no other jelly-donut distributors within city limits to quickly produce more. “We’re running out of options in a race against time,” said Lieutenant Brenda Morey, down at the precinct. “Terrible day for coee on an empty stomach.” ming” of the very bottom layer, using very sharp knives--but test participants were hurt with self-inicted injuries, all while forfeiting the very safety of the jelly inside. “e only good news we’ve heard, is that the lemon-lled variety are coming back 99% clear," Morey announced later, "but there's not enough to go around by any means.” e bakery responded to calls, saying that the spots were caused during the baking pro- cess, and that the donuts themselves were fresh-made. But not everyone is convinced. “ey’re tiny black spots--very suspect on a donut,” said shopper Tim Litscher, who purchased one such jelly donut before the grocery store recall. “But if there’s a bakery out there who says it’s okay, who am I to ques- tion,” he continued, mouth half-full of pastry. Volunteers called throughout the Can- natown metro, verifying that other donuts looked similar and asking for options. Ex- perts weighed in, recommending a “skim-

STEVE DURAN OWNER, COOKIES-PUEBLO

Steve Duran is a pioneer in the regulated cannabis indus- try, bringing the rst licensed cannabis facility to the City of Pueblo in Colorado, eventually turning his lifelong dedication to marijuana into one of the most successful dispensaries in Pueblo. Raised in Pueblo by a single mother, Steve found can- nabis at a young age and spent his teenage years in and out of juvenile detention facilities. When medical marijuana dispen- saries started popping up across Colorado in 2009, Steve saw an opportunity to pursue his passion without risking jail time. Starting as a caregiver growing for local patients and a dis- pensary employee, Steve mastered every facet of the industry, using those skills to pursue his own dispensary. Steve, without any assistance from investors, took the steps to bring his vision to life. With the help of his wife Monique, Steve cut through the miles of regulatory red tape to open the rst-ever medical dispensary in Pueblo City, transitioning to recreational sales just two years later with one of the rst 8 adult-use licenses in the City of Pueblo. To date Steve currently owns ve licenses including a Social Equity license in the State of Colorado. “I want people like me to know there is a path, if you're willing to work your ass o, you can make it happen.”

back at Kishi Bashi's unique arrival. It all began with a burst.... Jack White Fear of the Dawn

Album Notes from Erickson “The Soundtrack to your Chill”

Kishi Bashi 151a

We last received a studio oering from Jack White in 2018, but long before then I gave

Today is a blast from the past, albeit one that is not too distant nor the most likely anniversary to be acknowledged.

up trying to decipher his persona. Intention- ally inscrutable, a man of many opinions but few interviews, the Detroit native seemingly strives to perplex when it comes to all things except his want to rock. And that he contin- ues to do, and succeed, on his own terms with this latest solo LP. Fear of the Dawn is one of those records I nd dicult to write about. Not because it is a masterpiece whose brilliance words fail to convey. Pièce de résistance it is not, although the majority of it is really damn good. It's just a lot to digest. Each listen unveils a new wrinkle of an album that fully personies the low-end guitar ri maestro and his inherent weirdness. As confusing as the man may be, his attentiveness to sonic palette and top- notch production is never in doubt, and here those attributes abound in spades. Aer four years between each of his last two releases, fans won't have to wait long for the next one. Entering Heaven Alive is due in July. It might take me until then to wrap my head around Fear of the Dawn .

His third record, Sonderlust , was featured here shortly aer it was released in 2016. Two years later, we took a break from our regularly scheduled programming to travel back to 2014's Lighght . Now it's time to revisit the opening salvo. Consider this a slow burn in reverse chronological order to cover the opening trifecta, one that stylistically very much feels like a trilogy, of Kaoru Ishibashi's career. Better known as Kishi Bashi, insomuch as he is known at all, April 2012, saw the release of his stellar debut , 151a. e sounds that would become even more developed over the following years were laid clear ten years ago. An unlikely blend of folk/electro/pop from an adept violinist, the underlying trait is one of joy. Upliing, if occasionally campy, it's hard not to feel a sense of exuberance throughout the cinematic tone and arrangements of the native Seattleite's compositions. e 10th Anniversary Edition of 151a comes with the "Demo-arigato Version" of each song, along with two tunes not originally included. More traditional and acoustic in nature, both 2019's Omoiyari and the 2021 EP Emi- grant oer a fascinating study in contrast and demonstrate the range of Ishibashi's abilities and musical vision. If his catalog were played on shue, one might suspect those two most recent eorts marked the beginning of his career. Instead, as he enters his second decade as a recording artist, it's well worth a look

e Dankest Doughnuts If you’ve got some time to kill, then why not try your hand at life's penultimate cuisine: homemade donuts! ere’s a lot of waiting between steps, but time ies when you bake . Ingredients e dough 10 tsp or 4 packets of active dry yeast 14 cups our 2 and 1/2 cups whole milk 4 cups sugar 12 eggs 3 Sticks butter salted (or add 6 tsp salt if not) Oil - for frying Powdered sugar - for dusting e “party” cream lling 2 and 1/2 cups whole milk 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup corn syrup w/ 1000mg active THC 8 egg yolks 2 capfuls of vanilla or almond extract. 3/4 cup heavy cream 1/2 cup our Directions Start by making the cream. In a medium bowl whisk the egg yolks and set aside. In another smaller bowl mix the our, sugar and salt. Slowly whisk the dry into the egg until it makes a batter texture of sorts. Set mix aside. Heat milk on medium until you see bub- bles form round the edge. Remove from heat and very slowly add to the egg mix whisking constantly until well-incorporated. Return to heat and continue to whisk until it starts to boil and thicken. Remove from heat immediately when you feel it thicken, and incorporate the infused corn syrup. Place in fridge to cool completely for 2 to 4 hours. Whip the heavy cream and vanilla until you have sti peaks. Fold into the cooled cream and place back into the fridge until you need it. Now to the dough. I’m a big fan of washing your hands and just getting in there. In a large bowl allow the whole milk to come to

room temperature and dissolve the yeast in it for a few minutes. Mix in the our, sugar and eggs until everything comes together. It will still be sticky and slimy at this stage. Add the three sticks of room temperature butter (this is where working by hand works best). When you’ve got a fully-mixed dough ball, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for a few hours (I le mine for six). It will continue to rise. Prepare either a large surface or sev- eral trays with owered parchment paper. Remove the dough from the fridge and start pulling small chunks about the size of a cutie orange, rolling in your hands with additional our as needed. Make small, at circles and place them on parchment paper. Allow time to rise and double in size. Using a large fry pan or deep side electric skillet, heat oil for frying to 350 degrees. I found approximately 2 minutes per side of the dough chunks gave them the best golden color. Remove aer frying and dry on paper towels to soak up some of the oil. Cool completely before lling with the cream (you may have extra depending on how much you ll them). You can also use jelly to ll some for a fruit-and cream taste. Finish by tossing in powdered sugar for the ultimate mouthwatering presentation. Divided perfectly, makes 40 at 25mg each.
