Indoor Air Quality

Up to 7 credits (par- tial contribution)

JEB’s independently tested VOC emission data, TVOC below 500 µg/m³ and formaldehyde below 20 µg/m³ per ISO 16000-6, contributes to Hea 04’s requirements for low-emission interior materials. JEB’s product data supports up to 2 of the available 7 credits under this category as part of a broader project IAQ strategy. JEB Acoustic Partitions are tested to ASTM E90-09 (laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss) and ASTM E413-10 (STC classification), achieving ratings up to STC 49. Important note for BREEAM submissions: BREEAM Hea 06 references acoustic performance expressed as Rw (ISO 717-1) or DnT,w, the European and UK standard metrics. STC and Rw are approximately equivalent under laboratory conditions, but the Assessor will require Rw confirmation. Provide JEB’s acoustic test reports to the project’s acoustic consultant to confirm Rw values prior to submission. JEB’s product-specific Type III EPDs cover lifecycle stages A1–A5 (product manufacture and construction installation), C1–C4 (end-of-life deconstruction, transport, and waste processing), and Module D (beyond-boundary recycling and recovery benefits). Module B (in-use stage) has been omitted as it is not material to the service life of partition and door systems. This scope supports project-level LCA submissions at concept, technical design and as-built stages, positioning projects well for multiple Mat 01 credits.

JEB’s modular installation system and supplier take-back programme directly support the project team’s construction waste management plan. Recyclable aluminium framing, glass panels, and packaging materials are designed for segregated waste streams, with site supervision protocols and weight-based traceability available to support BREEAM waste reporting requirements. JEB’s wedge-key dry-assembly system enables partition demounting and relocation without material damage or specialist tools, fully supporting the disassembly and adaptability principles embedded in BREEAM V7 Wst 06, now aligned with ISO 20887 and expanded to incorporate circular economy outcomes. JEB partitions extend building service life by enabling reuse and reconfiguration across the building’s lifecycle, directly satisfying the credit’s objectives for adaptability and material recovery. Glazed partition configurations support passive daylighting strategies that reduce electrical lighting demand, a key input to the low-carbon design analysis and energy reduction targets required under Ene 04. Contribution is evidenced through the project’s energy model and daylighting simulation. JEB partitions enable and support the daylighting design strategy rather than independently earning this credit, which is assessed at the whole-building level.

Best Management Practice

Take-Back Program*

• Avoid: Design precision and pre-cut fabrication minimise waste at source

• Trigger: Any partition removal or end-of-life event activates the take-back protocol

• Minimise: Modular components reduce off- cuts during installation

• Dismantling & Segregation: Site Supervisor oversees removal; mixed-waste disposal of recoverable materials is prohibited under SOP

• Reuse: Demounted systems can be reconfigured or redeployed at site

• Collection: Approved recycler collects

materials and issues weight-based delivery documentation within 14 days

Segregation: Aluminium, metal hardware, glass, and packaging kept separate from general waste

• Documentation: Project Manager uploads weight bills to SharePoint within 7 days; JEB Product Take-Back Tracker updated with kg recovered, recycler name, and proof of receipt date

• Recycle: Segregated recyclables directed to dedicated material streams

• Dispose: Landfill and/or Incineration will be the last resort

Material Pathways

• Aluminium and metal hardware: Collection by approved commercial recyclers, most metals can be recycled indefinitely without losing its properties.

• Glass: Product take-back via manufacturer supply chain, processed into cullet and recycled into new glass products.

*The take-back programme is fully operational for direct office projects managed by JEB. For projects fulfilled through dealer or distribution channels, take-back capability is encouraged, subject to local recycler availability and regional infrastructure.
