Ann & Nate Levine Academy’s partnership with the Jewish Federation is of central importance to our school. The Federation provides us with a core grant each year as a partnership agency which funds our needs in the area of tuition assistance for our students. Additionally, for the past two years, we have received generous grants from the Federation to fund our Learning Support and Dyslexia programs which are vital in supporting all of our students.
Carrie Sternberg Julie Wilkofsky
FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL & BOARD PRESIDENT
Dear Levine Community, We like to look at school progress as a matter of constant evolution. We are therefore happy to communicate that Ann & Nate Levine Academy continued to vigorously evolve and advance along its continuum of excellence during the 2017-2018 school year. This can be seen in everything from our students’ ERB scores, exceeding the independent school norms in 22 of 35 categories; in high school and college placement; and the continued professional development of our staff. This is possible because of you—our committed families and friends— so our sincerest thank you for enabling our constant improvement and evolution. Keeping our “eye on the prize,” our school’s Mission Statement, is always the chief collaborative focus of our administrative leadership team, our faculty, and our Board of Trustees. In fact, our Board reviews, updates, and affirms our mission statement periodically, and in April of 2018, the Board unanimously passed our new mission statement: ANN & NATE LEVINE ACADEMY IS AN INCLUSIVE, DYNAMIC, JEWISH DAY SCHOOL WHICH FOSTERS CREATIVITY, CRITICAL THINKING, AND JEWISH VALUES WHILE EMPOWERING ITS STUDENTS WITH MORAL CHARACTER, SELF-CONFIDENCE AND INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY.
Levine Academy has so much to be proud of primarily due to two factors: 1) Our school’s leadership team and faculty strive to push our school toward the frontier of education and research, always envisioning a better tomorrow. 2) The support we receive from our families and friends, chiefly through our Annual Fund and Gala, is equally vital. It keeps Levine Academy a vibrant, relevant institution that seeks to implement best practices in teaching and learning.
Whether it is expanding our writing program; adopting challenging and preparatory curricula in math and science; providing first rate and meaningful experiences across America and in Israel; offering a thorough line-up of competitive sports and creative outlets; or creating lively and ruach-filled Shabbats and Jewish celebrations—
LEVINE ACADEMY REMAINS A UNIQUE AND EXCEPTIONALLY IMPORTANT EXPERIENCE FOR OUR CHILDREN. INDEED, OUR STUDENTS ARE FUTURE LEADERS AND A LINK TO JEWISH CONTINUITY.
Levine Academy remains a unique and exceptionally important experience for our children. Indeed, our students are future leaders and a link to Jewish continuity. Your support helps us give them the best academic and Jewish foundation possible for their ongoing success. We thank you, enthusiastically, for your commitment to Levine Academy, and we thank you for your ongoing support. Sincerely,
Tom Elieff Head of School
Solomon Israel President, Board of Trustees

We added a flag football team this past year, as well. On-field successes for the Althetic program included: • Playoffs Round II 5th-6th Grade Girls Soccer 5th-6th Grade Girls Basketball 5th-6th Grade Boys Soccer
THEATRE ARTS & MUSIC - Our children continue to impress us with their talent year after year. This year we were amazed by their beautiful art displayed throughout the building, their impressive performances at Zimriyah, Talent Show, Band, and Show Choir.

EARLY CHILDHOOOD CENTER
E
This year we were sad to say goodbye to our Director of the Weinreb Early Childhood Center (ECC), Sheryl Feinberg, who retired after over 30 years of hard work and commitment to our school. We are excited that Stacey Behrendt has joined us as our ECC
Director and we have been thrilled with her leadership over the past half year. Under her leadership, our program has continued to make strides in the education of Levine Academy’s youngest children. Stacey focused her time in the last six months working on family engagement and teacher educational support and training. Levine’s Early Childhood program embraces a best-practice, brain research-based, “emergent literacy” approach. A prime example was in our Two’s program as students learned about nursery

rhymes and enacting Purim songs. Hands-on, tactile, and song activities are designed to galvanize student engagement in classic nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty. This emergent literacy approach to teaching will strengthen in the coming school years as we continue to support and challenge our
children’s knowledge. In our early childhood program, we see the confluence of literacy, creativity, Jewish joy, collaboration, and fine-motor activities as a way to realize whole child education, a hallmark of the Levine Academy experience.

JUDAIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT
T his year we were honored to welcome Rabbi Jeremy Litton as our new Director of Jewish Life and Learning. Rabbi Litton joined us in Dallas last summer after making a move from his position as Dean of Discipline at Magen David Yeshiva in Brooklyn, NY. He has experience in a variety of positions working in both formal and informal Jewish education and has a passion for Jewish learning, Jewish teaching, and music. His goal this year was to infuse our school with a strong sense of Jewish pride and ruach . This was accomplished through many of our programs. One example is our new Shabbat service including a new layout
of the room encouraging a more participatory experience, adding a portion of the service which includes dancing around the room, and encouraging spirited singing with his musical instruments accompanying the students and parents. Lag B’omer was traditionally celebrated at Levine for the first time with a bonfire

outside signifying that the flame of the Torah is still going strong through the generations. T 2 : Tzionut and Treats, a new program, was spearheaded by our teachers who participated
in the Schultz fellowship which was complimented by Rabbi Katzman’s new Zionism curriculum for grades K-8. These two programs help infuse the spirit of Israel and support for our Jewish homeland at Levine. This year, our community had the unique experience not only to learn from the Torah, but to actually get involved in the commandment of writing the Torah through Project 613 in memory of our beloved Wende Weinberg, z”l. Rabbi Litton also enjoyed leading a lively Early Childhood Shabbat service each week with musical instruments, singing, and dancing as he partnered with Rabbi Shira Wallach from Congregation Shearith Israel in this exciting service for our little ones.
AT A GLANCE
34 shabbatot celebrated.
Students raised over $6,000 for mitzvah projects in the community.
1,000 challot sent home to our Levine families.

TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY CLASSROOM We would like to thank Jolene & Avron Levin for their generosity in donating new furniture to transform our 5th and 6th grade Math classroom this year. The furniture was created and custom built for this space by the Levin’s new furniture company called NorvaNivel. The new classroom is futuristic, multi-modular and brightly finished with geometric and multi-functional seating with interchangeable workspaces.
“I love the moveable orange chairs and the wobble boards, because they make the class more fun.”
“The chairs make me comfortable, which helps me chill out and focus.” “I enjoy this new classroom because we can focus better, so most people do better in class.” “I enjoy the furniture because of how innovative the white boards are.”

BEVERLEY LEWIN & BETTY KENNER PLAYGROUND
Levine Academy is proud to honor two of our most dedicated and caring teachers in the ECC by building this new playground in their names. Beverley & Betty together have given almost 70 years of hard work and care to this school and we are so thankful for all they have done for their students year after year. This playground will be used primarily for our Toddlers and Two’s classes. The playground has been completely replaced with new climbing structures, a play car, a sandbox, a playhouse, and a beautiful garden.
