The past few months have had their ups and downs. We have seen new staff come to the home and take their place with us. We have also said goodbye to some team members. The sad passing of our loved and respected Registered Nurse Carron has reminded us that we need to hold close to our own loved ones. We continue to support Carrons family over this difficult time and we would like to

give our thanks and gratitude to all those residents, family and community members who thought of Carron, her family and our staff over this time - your kind words were much appreciated. I would like to thank Kerrie and Crystal for organising and presenting the ANZAC day service. This is an important tradition that Woodford Manor is honoured to hold every year. We thank the residents for their kind compliments on the service. A big thank you to Kriz from lifestyle for setting up the technology. Lee and her glamour squad did an amazing job with our Mother’s day glamour photo shoot. Our ladies looked fabulous, and these photos will make a lovely keepsake for our families. We look forward to seeing our dashing men over the next few months!! As winter settles in, I would like to take this opportunity to share a few updates and reflections from across our home. The colder months remind us of the importance of warmth, connection, and community — values that continue to guide everything we do each day. Keeping Warm, Safe, and Comfortable Our priority during winter is ensuring all residents remain safe, comfortable, and well supported. Across the facility, we are focusing on: • Maintaining warm indoor environments • Monitoring resident wellbeing closely • Supporting seasonal health and nutrition needs • Enhancing infection prevention practices • Providing comfortable communal spaces for social connection. Supporting Wellbeing Through the Winter Months Winter can sometimes bring feelings of isolation or reduced activity, so we are continuing to encourage engagement through meaningful activities and social opportunities. From warm morning teas and music sessions to crafts and themed events, our lifestyle team is helping residents stay connected and active. Families and visitors play an important role in maintaining resident wellbeing, and we always appreciate the time you spend with your loved ones. Looking Ahead Over the coming months, we look forward to celebrating several seasonal activities and community events within the home. Winter offers many opportunities to slow down, share stories, and enjoy the comfort of companionship together. We look forward to the traditional rivalry of the State of Origin (Go the Blues!) we have the Commonwealth Games with its pomp and ceremony, and as always, the country favourite of the Ekka. Thank you for your continued trust and support. Wishing everyone a safe, warm, and healthy winter season Natalie Facility Manager

Message from Lifestyle Lee-Ann Where do we even begin? The last three months at Woodford Manor have been filled with excitement, laughter, creativity, and so many memorable activities and events for our residents. March

March started with our very first Buffet Breakfast, and what an amazing turnout it was. Our kitchen team supplied an incredible variety of food, including Danish pastries, croissants, fresh yoghurt and fruit cups, along with a large selection of hot breakfast items. Residents thoroughly enjoyed the morning, with many commenting on how special it felt to have such a beautiful breakfast experience together. We also celebrated Harmony Day, where residents created colourful cardboard hands and wrote special messages about what Harmony Day meant to them. The activity became very meaningful, as residents exchanged hands and received uplifting and thoughtful messages from one another. It was lovely to see the smiles on their faces while reading the kind words written by fellow residents. Of course, we couldn’t forget St Patrick’s Day. The facility turned green with themed food, games, decorations, and plenty of laughter throughout the day. Residents and staff all joined in the fun, making it another wonderful celebration together. April April brought the beginning of our new painting classes, which quickly became a favourite activity among many residents. We experimented with different painting techniques using unusual objects such as toothbrushes, balloons, and other creative tools. The results have been remarkable, and we have discovered some very talented artists here at Woodford Manor. The Easter Bunny also made a very special visit to the facility. A huge thank you to Traditional Funerals for helping make the day possible. There were lots of cuddles, smiles, chocolates, and happy moments shared with residents throughout the celebration. One of the biggest highlights of April was the beginning of our Glamour Photoshoot Days. This event ran over three weeks and involved a lot of planning, preparation, and thought. being the Lifestyle Coordinator, I truly wanted our ladies to feel glamorous and beautiful again, especially after hearing many residents say they no longer felt that way about themselves. The response completely exceeded all expectations. Every lady enjoyed having their hair and makeup done before taking part in a private professional-style photoshoot. The confidence, excitement, and

happiness that came from these sessions was incredible to witness. Seeing residents smile at themselves in the mirror again was such a rewarding experience for everyone involved. May May brought even more special moments, including celebrating one of our residents turning 103 years old — an event so special it even made the local newspaper. We also celebrated Mother’s Day with a beautiful High Tea for all of our ladies. During the event, we displayed the glamour photos on the big screen for everyone to see. The room was filled with smiles, excitement, laughter, and even a few emotional tears. Residents were not only amazed by their own photographs but were equally supportive and complimentary of one another’s photos. Some of our beautiful ladies were even featured in the local newspaper, making the experience even more memorable. I, Lee, have organized many events over the years, but this was truly one of my Favorites of all time. Watching the residents’ reactions and seeing how beautiful and confident they felt made all the hard work worthwhile. Upcoming Events We still have plenty of exciting events coming up over the next few months, including: • State of Origin Game 1, 2, and 3 celebrations with fun themed games and activities • Visits from the Oak Tree Kindergarten children, which residents always love and look forward to • Commonwealth Games themed activities and competitions • NAIDOC Week celebrations to recognize and celebrate culture, history, and community The Lifestyle team looks forward to continuing to create meaningful, fun, and memorable experiences for all our residents. Community Happenings Autumn Autumn at Woodford Manor was a season of celebration, friendly rivalry and moments shared around the table. From glamour photoshoots to state pride showdowns, there was something for everyone across the quarter. Celebrating culture and community St Patrick’s Day kicked off our autumn celebrations with a bingo game featuring an exciting twist, a jelly cheesecake fresh from the kitchen and a traditional Irish morning tea the following day. The Woodford Singers kept the theme alive with a concert of Irish songs that had the whole room joining in. Harmony Day invited us to celebrate the many cultures that make up our community, and we marked the occasion with a special cake and plenty of conversation. Frank’s birthday fell during the festivities, and the kitchen honoured him with a cake inspired by his own culture, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Our Easter celebrations began with a ‘do you know your partner’ competition that tested how well our couples and friends really know each other. Joe and Ruth claimed first place, while Kevin took home the lucky door prize as an added bonus. The fun continued with a special visit from Mia and the Easter Bunny, organised by Traditional Funerals, which brought smiles all around. Our sincere thanks to them for such a delightful morning.

Friendly competition Our six-month snooker competition reached its grand final, with points accrued across four categories and the judging criteria kept firmly under wraps. The announcement of the winners brought considerable amusement, and a new challenge against a neighbouring community is already brewing.

Our casino fun day brought the tables to life with a spinning roulette wheel and themed activities. Leo hit the biggest win of the day, though just like in a real casino, the banker had the last laugh and his play money didn’t make it home. There were plenty of winning moments and even more laughter. Our state against state football challenge proved a nail-biter, with New South Wales claiming victory over Queensland by just one point, 34 to 33. Jaime from catering created an exceptional football-themed cake, while Kerrie and Crystal manned the BBQ. Bocce on the lawn rounded out a competitive quarter. From our kitchen Good food was never far away this season. Our buffet breakfasts continued to be a favourite, with the kitchen team outdoing themselves each time. The air fryer earned its keep, producing warm scones one week and pizzas the next, with residents joining in the cooking. Between the jelly cheesecake, birthday cakes and football cake, there was always something worth saving room for.

A Mother’s Day to remember Four weeks of preparation led to one of our most memorable events yet. Our Mother’s Day glamour photoshoots saw our ladies pampered with hair styling by Sonya, professional makeup by Emma and portraits by photographer Kriz. Lee and the lifestyle team spent two months bringing the concept to life, with support from facility manager Natalie, Crystal and the wider team. Traditional Funerals generously donated lucky door prizes and Selina Pharmacy supplied the makeup. On the day itself, we enjoyed high tea in our memory support community, where Ann won the lucky door prize and Chevy the dog stopped by. Iris, 87 years young, handmade sunflowers for every lady, delivered with help from the Redcliffe Sewing Group. The finished photographs were a hit with residents and families alike, and our beautiful ladies even featured in The Sentinel, our local paper.

Out, about and getting creative A bus trip to the Glasshouse plantation cafe treated us to beautiful views and a lovely meal. Closer to home, the Woodford Singers, an Elvis concert got toes tapping, and local tradie Paul surprised us all by bringing his 1966 Ford Mustang for residents to admire. Creative hands were busy too, with balloon painting proving a hit as we hot glued our painted balloons together to create a shared masterpiece.

Message from Clinical Care Kerrie

Welcome to Winter!! We have had a busy Autumn with the weather cooling and the days getting shorter. Things that we achieved over this time were • A very positive uptake of the covid and Influenza vaccine clinics • A continued decrease in the number of falls by everyone in the home • Exciting changes and improvements to our Jiniburra unit As the cooler months arrive, we are focusing on keeping everyone warm, healthy, and connected throughout winter. Winter Health Focus Winter is a time when colds, flu, and other respiratory illnesses become more common. Our clinical team is taking proactive steps to reduce risks and support resident wellbeing through: • Increased infection prevention and hygiene measures • Monitoring residents closely for early signs of illness • Encouraging hydration and nutritious meals • Supporting mobility and gentle exercise indoors • Maintaining warm, comfortable living spaces We also encourage families and visitors to postpone visits if feeling unwell to help protect our vulnerable residents. Vaccinations Seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations remain one of the best ways to reduce serious illness during winter. Our ICP nurse Michelle is continuing to support residents with vaccination programs and health reviews where appropriate. Families with any questions regarding vaccinations or resident health plans are welcome to speak with Michelle or any of our nursing staff. Staying Active and Connected Shorter days and cooler weather can sometimes make us feel a little down and less likely to have our social connections. Our lifestyle team have planned a variety of engaging indoor activities, including:

• Morning exercise sessions • Craft and music activities • Cafe mornings with warm drinks and tasty cakes • Movie afternoons • Footy fever with the State of Origin and tipping competition

These activities help maintain both physical and emotional wellbeing during the colder months. Rember this is the time to rug up in your favourite jumper or blanket, grab a warm drink and watch you a new/old TV show or read a book.

Meet the Team

What do you enjoy most about working here? One of the things I enjoy most about working here is being involved in the large events and celebrations throughout the facility. The Lifestyle team often challenges me with new ideas and themes, which gives me the opportunity to be creative, experiment with different desserts, and push myself outside my comfort zone. I especially love making personalised birthday cakes and decorations for our residents and their families. I always try to make each cake special by learning about the resident beforehand — their favourite colours, foods, interests, or themes they enjoy — so the cake feels personal and meaningful to them. Seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces when they see their birthday cake or when we cater for a special occasion brings me so much joy and satisfaction. I also really enjoy creating different desserts and trying new ideas that can make celebrations feel memorable for everyone involved. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time, I enjoy taking our boat out to Tangalooma. I find it very relaxing being out on the water, especially sitting on the boat with a good book and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It’s a great way for me to unwind and recharge. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would love to visit Vietnam. I have always been very interested in the history and culture of Vietnam and would love the opportunity to experience it firsthand, learn more about the country, and explore everything it has to offer.

Chef’s Corner The past few months have seen us celebrate Easter, a wonderful Mother’s Day high tea with a heartwarming slideshow of glamour photos of our beautiful residents. A milestone 103rd birthday and in conjunction with the lifestyle team, we have created a several challenging but fun morning teas Beck

to support their cultural travel destination theme. With an Irish cream cake for Ireland, sushi and fruit sando’s for Japan, donuts and hotdogs for America and pastries and croissants for France. The increasingly popular buffet breakfast has bought joy to the kitchen team watching the residents enjoying sometimes second and third helpings of a buffet breakfast with their co-residents. The connections made and the hum of conversation make all the effort worthwhile. Coming up: We are transitioning from our lighter summer menu to a warming a hearty winter menu, with suggestions from residents on some classic favourites from their childhood. Spaghetti Bolognaise has been a requested meal and will be making an appearance in the coming weeks. Warming, tasty, comforting food that brings memories of past of meals shared with our families. With the weather cooling, our soups have become increasingly popular. Nourishing soul food, full of flavour, packed with nutrition and high in protein. Often residents stop by the kitchen to thank us for the delicious food; to let us know how much they enjoyed a meal or soup and to ask if they can have their favourite item on the menu every day – this week it was the home-made apple pie!. This encourages our kitchen team to use all their skill set to ensure our residents are getting the very best at all times. The feedback helps us to curate a menu designed for them

and helps us to provide the best, always. Head Chef Beck and the kitchen team.

170gm butter room temp 1 cup white sugar 220g 2 eggs 3 cups plain white flour 450g 3 teaspoon baking powder Pinch of salt

1. Add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to a medium bowl, peel, core and dice apples into 1cm pieces, tossing them in the lemon juice to coat 2. In A large saucepan, heat the first measure of water, sugar and butter over a medium-low heat until the butter melts. 3. Add the apples and stir to coat. 4. Simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning or over softening. 5. In a small bowl, mix cornflour with the second measure of water until smooth. 6. Remove from heat, stir in a pinch of salt and let the filling cool completely in the pan. 8. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place the oven rack in the bottom third of the oven. Grease the base and sides of a 23-25cm square or rectangle baking dish. 12. Work the chilled dough slightly to soften on a floured bench, then using a floured rolling pin roll out half the dough to the side of the tin. 13. Transfer the dough to the tin draped over the rolling pin and press gently into place in the base, trimming excess 14. Sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon over the base then add the cooked apple mixture evenly to the edges and sprinkle a little more sugar. 15. Roll out the remaining dough with a little sprinkle more flour, lay it over the apples and press down gently. Trim edges if needed and mark a fork pattern on the top of the pastry. 16. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the base is firm and starting to brown, if in doubt cook for a few minutes more than you need to dry the base. 17. Cool in the pan before slicing into squares, lifting each piece out with a spatula and dusting with icing sugar to serve.

Meet the Resident Rodney grew up about 15 kilometres out of Woodford, near the bottom end close to the hospital. He was born locally and remembers living in a big white house near the old jail. Some of his favourite childhood memories were spending his days outdoors, running around the bush and enjoying the freedom of country life. Rodney says he was very happy growing up there. Throughout his life, Rodney worked mainly on Rodney

dairy farms, along with doing bits and pieces of other jobs over the years. He describes himself as a hard worker who always enjoyed keeping busy. When asked about hobbies, Rodney laughs and says having a newspaper in his hand is probably his favourite pastime. He enjoys reading and feels he has learned a lot throughout his life. Rodney believes there is always something new to learn, no matter your age, and says living life to the fullest every day is important. The best advice Rodney has for others is simple: always be truthful. Rodney believes one of the biggest changes he has seen in his lifetime is technology. While he thinks technology can be very helpful, he also feels it can sometimes hurt people, especially through scams and dishonesty. One of Rodney’s favourite travel memories was visiting Tasmania, a place he remembers fondly for its beauty and peaceful scenery. The biggest influence in Rodney’s life has been his wife, Kathy, who he says has stood by his side forever. Rodney speaks very warmly of her support and companionship over the years. When asked about his proudest achievement, Rodney modestly says it is simply reaching the age he is today and appreciating all the experiences life has given him. What makes Rodney smile most is the cheeky and funny staff around him, who brighten his days and keep him laughing.

Winter Vaccinations Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect against serious illness caused by respiratory viruses such as influenza (flu), COVID-19 and RSV. These illnesses can be severe in otherwise healthy people. In Australia, RSV and influenza seasons can start as early as March, with activity usually peaking between June

Autumn Highlights March 2026 St Patrick’s Day set the tone for a lively month, with a bingo game featuring an exciting twist and a jelly cheesecake that disappeared quickly. The following morning we kept the Irish spirit going with a traditional morning tea, and the Woodford Singers rounded out the celebrations with a concert of Irish-themed songs that had everyone singing along. Harmony Day gave us the chance to reflect on what makes our community special, and the kitchen marked the occasion with a special cake. Frank celebrated his birthday with a cake inspired by his own culture, which he enjoyed immensely. We also baked scones in the air fryer, played bocce, enjoyed an Elvis concert and appreciated the helping hands of our ladies with the folding.

April 2026

Easter kicked off the month with a ‘do you know your partner’ competition, won by Joe and Ruth, with Kevin claiming the lucky door prize. Mia and the Easter Bunny from Traditional Funerals paid us a delightful visit that brought smiles all around. Preparations for Mother’s Day then took centre stage, with our glamour photoshoots bringing plenty of excitement. Our ladies were pampered from head to toe, with hair by Sonya, makeup by professional artist Emma and photographs by Kriz. Two months of planning by Lee and the lifestyle team made it all possible. We got creative with balloon painting, gluing our masterpieces together, and honoured ANZAC Day with a memorial program led by Crystal and Kerrie. Our casino fun day brought a spinning roulette wheel and plenty of laughs, with Leo hitting the biggest win of the day before the banker took it all back. The six-month snooker competition wrapped up with points across four categories and much amusement at the winners’ announcement, and we finished the month cooking pizzas in the air fryer.
