Canada Day weekend wet but still packed with fun for Canada Day in EasternOntario but folks in Prescott-Russell still managed to have a fun-filled weekend celebrating both the 150th birthday of the country and also the annual Ottawa River Festival. Off-and-on thundershowers forced or- ganizers of the long weekend activities in various communities of Prescott-Russell,

to scramble to arrange for indoor venues wherever and whenever possible. Commu- nity centres, arenas, libraries and schools became weekend shelters for many child- ren’s activities and special exhibits. Along the Ottawa River in Rockland, Wendover, Lefaivre, L’Orignal, Hawkesbury, and Chute-à-Blondeau, volunteers with the annual Ottawa River Festival rearranged locations and setups for some venues where possible. For the most part, the annual regional celebrations of riverside community life flowed along as usual with special events like the Sass Jordan concert in Rockland, blessed with a sunny break in the weather to allow fans of the Juno Award-winning singer to enjoy listening to her rock in Rockland. The annual Rockland Ford Classics Mus- tang Poker Run rolled out on schedule, with dozens of Mustangs touring along the highways and byways of Prescott-Russell, to both raise public awareness and funds for breast cancer research and treatment.

UCPR supports VIA Rail project June 28 session to a resolution of support for VIA Rail’s proposed High-Frequency Train project which the transport outfit has presented to the federal government. The plan proposes increasing the amount of passenger commuter train traffic along the Windsor-Québec Corridor, with connection options for other systems such as urban light-rail transit and small local railways. The project, if it goes ahead, could increase
commuter passenger rail links with both large urban and small rural communities. The UCPR’s support resolution calls on the federal government to provide financing aid for the project and also urges the Ontario government to include the project on its list of high-priority infrastructure improvement projects for the province. OPP in Russell County have a delicate case to deal with from the Canada Day long weekend. At about 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the county detachment received a call about a body seen on the shoulder of the westbound
OPP Unmanned Aerial Unit, and the Crime Unit conducted on-site inspections. Police have identified the deceased as a 34-year-old Ottawa woman but her name is withheld pending notification of next of kin. So far the investigation has determined the woman was struck by a passing vehicle. The closed sec- tion of Highway 417 reopened to full traffic flow just after midnight on July 3. Investigation conti- nues and anyone who has information that might aid police can call the OPP toll-free at 1-888-310-1122 or the CrimeStoppers confidential tips hotline at 1-800-222-8477.

Le soleil est sorti juste à temps pour la tenue du Poker Run Classiques Ford de Rockland, l’évènement annuel qui se veut une collecte de fonds pour la Fondation canadienne du cancer du sein et Bâtir le coeur de votre communauté. Bien que la participation ait été un peu à la baisse, la randonnée de poker attire chaque année une centaine de voitures Mustang et Ford classiques et au cours des six dernières années, l'événement a réussi à recueillir au-delà de 100 000 $ pour le cancer du sein et 30,000 $ pour Bâtir le cœur de votre communauté. They are the last high school students from Clarence-Rockland’s two English high schools who can claim the 20th Century as part of their origins. Members of the Class of 2017 took their places in the spot- light during their official celebration and leavetaking ceremonies on June 28. “I’m very proud of them,” said Principal Jeff Campbell, of the 68 graduates making up the Class of 2017 for Rockland District High School. “They are a group of character, strong leaders. They were very conscious of what it meant to be part of a community. Many of our grads offered, out of their own free time, to go out and do sandbagging during the flood situation last month (May). They dug deep and worked hard to support their community.” “They are an energetic bunch,” added Principal Ralph Sharples of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School. “They were always willing to help outside of the com- munity.” Principal Sharples noted that many of the 79members of the Hammond high school’s graduating class of 2017 went into Rockland during their free time to help with sandbag- ging efforts to protect local riverside neigh- bourhoods from the waters of the flooding Ottawa River. “We are very proud of this group,” Sharples commented.

Il/Elle doit présenter un bon dossier de conduite de véhicule commercial, un permis de conduire valide de classe A ainsi que les permis de freins pneumatiques Z et un passeport afin de franchir les frontières entre le Canada et les États-Unis. D’Ottawa, Ont., est décédé le vendredi 16 juin 2017, à l’âge de 67 ans. Il était le fils de feu Gérard Pharand et de Jeanne D’Arc Gauthier, le conjoint de Pauline Charette. Il était le père de Michelle et de Joële (Réjean Fournier), le beau- père de Sara Picard (Steve Côté), le grand-père de Tanya et Shawn Peterson, Cédrick, Damien et Aurellie Fournier, le beau-grand-père de Léa Côté. Il laisse son frère, Roger (Carmen Audette), ainsi que la mère de ses enfants Sylviane Lamarche, plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines. Il fut prédécédé par sa soeur, Hélène (Guy Deslauriers). Une cérémonie privée pour la famille aura lieu. Des dons peuvent être faits à la Fondation de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa, si désirés.

FINANCIAL REPORTING MANAGER Ivaco Rolling Mills, a very well established company and leader in its industry in Canada is seeking a qualified Financial Reporting Manager to fill a vacancy in its Accounting Department. SUMMARY The Financial Reporting Manager, a resourceful and disciplined individual, will report to the Assistant Controller and assist in the preparation of the financial statements. The incumbent will be responsible for reporting, analysis, reconciliations and assist with other tasks. The candidate must have a deep knowledge of Financial Accounting and thorough knowledge and understanding of all accounting cycles. The Financial ReportingManager must provide a high degree of specialized support tomanagement in the areas of accounting and reporting, offer assistance in planning, forecasting and implementing. Also, ensure compliance with the financial policies of the organization. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The Financial Reporting Manager will be accountable for the following: • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports • Perform variance analysis, KPI review and other analytical tasks • Prepare fixed assets continuity schedule, other various monthly reconciliations and journal entries • Ad hoc analysis, including some related to costing • Participate in special projects with the objective of continuous improvement in operational efficiency and reporting, eliminating non-valued activities. • Identify issues and proactively initiate analyses / solutions • Ensure the proper internal controls are in place and maintained • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements • Work on implementation of a variety of projects as needed KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS The successful candidate will have the following education, skills and abilities: • CPA / CMA / CA designation and Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent • Five years of relevant experience • Strong knowledge of Financial Accounting and cycles • Bilingualism is a must. • Participate in the preparation of annual audit / working papers • Carry out periodic reviews of controls, expenditures, and compliance • Participate in and support the budget and forecast preparation
