Township council reviewed a request during its August 7 meeting for permission to include campaign signage as part of a float entry in the Vankleek Hill Fair parade this week. The current municipal bylaw does not allow election signage along public roadways until after September 1. L’homme d’affaires Lawrence Bogue n’aimait pas la politique, mais sa ferme volonté de contribuer au développement économique de sa ville l’encourage à s’y engager et à se porter candidat au poste de conseiller municipal. « J’ai toujours eu de l’intérêt pour la ville, mais je n’ai jamais pensé que je déposerais ma candidature comme conseiller. Je n’ai jamais pensé être politicien, même le mot politicien faisait drôle à mes oreilles », a reconnu l’actuel président de la Commission de la Zone d’amélioration commerciale de Hawkesbury (COMZAC). Il a changé d’avis et monte finalement à bord du navire politique dans l’intention de faire avancer la communauté. Travail- lant depuis longtemps au développement économique de la ville avec différentes administrations, le propriétaire de Bogue Photo considère qu’il y a « tellement de choses à faire » et qu’il a maintenant le temps de s’y consacrer. « Moi j’ai toujours été en communication en photo et en Internet. Je suis en affaires depuis 44 ans. Mon père a été dans le commerce pendant 40 ans. Mon fils est là depuis trois ans. Je suis en semi-retraite et j’ai toujours été actif dans le coin », rapporte

Bryan Rodgers wants one of the Ward 4/ West Hawkesbury seats on Champlain Township council. Township budget planning is one of key concerns for the 66-year-old candidate from Vankleek Hill. Rodgers wants a closer review of municipal expenses and decisions during the budget plan which result increases to the property tax rate. “I know people on a fixed income,” Rod- gers said, “and half of a per cent (tax rate increase) is hard for them to take.” Originally from Lachute, Rodgers has lived in the Vankleek Hill area for the past 10 years. He works in industrial sales but noted that he’s always had an interest in municipal politics since childhood. “I’ve been attending council meetings since I was 12,” he said. “My father would take me along when he went to the local council.” He decided to enter this year’s civic election because he believes it’s time for him to take a more active role in local poli- tics and “to put back into the community” using his years of experience observing village councils at work and also service on various civic committees in the Lachute and Argenteuil regions. “I have business acumen,” he said, “and I’ve seen how councils work well and

Je crois que c’est important que nos enfants comprennent pourquoi on a choisi de s’engager en politique ainsi que les changements que l’on veut apporter pour assurer un meilleur avenir pour eux.
