U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee and Israeli Tourism Leaders Launch Strategic Alliance to Accelerate Israel’s Tourism Recovery A new high-level initiative brings together diplomats, government officials, and hospitality pioneers to expand direct flights, boost visitor confidence, and launch innovative travel programs for American visitors

I srael’s top tourism executives and hospitality leaders met last month with United States Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, for a pivotal working session aimed at reinvigorating incoming tourism from the United States. The strategic summit focused on strengthening cross-border collaboration, expanding direct flight routes, and crafting a long-term national strategy to position Israel once again among the world’s most compelling and welcoming travel destinations. The high-level delegation featured key figures across Israel’s travel ecosystem, Hotel Association; Michael Itzchakov – Director General of the Ministry of Tourism; David Fattal – Founder and Owner of the Fattal Hotel Group; Rami Levy – President of Catalyst Global Consulting Group; Yossi Fatael – CEO of the Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association; Avi Jack – owner of The Drisco Hotel in Tel Aviv’s historic American Colony; Hagar Sharan – CEO of the Israel Hotel Association; and Romy Gurodissky – Director of including Eli Cohen – President of the Israel

the Coordination Bureau of Israel’s Tourism Industry. The meeting took place under the banner of the Israel Tourism Recovery Forum (ITRF), a newly established strategic platform uniting government leaders, private sector innovators, airlines, hoteliers, and international partners. The Forum’s overarching vision is to formulate practical, high-impact initiatives that will accelerate Israel’s tourism comeback and showcase the country as a global benchmark for how tourism can drive economic revitalization and foster deep, international personal connections. During the session, Ambassador Huckabee was presented with a detailed overview of the current landscape, including both the key challenges and the immense potential awaiting Israel’s travel industry during the recovery phase. Industry leaders outlined practical measures to restore international travel confidence, highlight authentic visitor experiences, and significantly increase tourism from North America. In response, Ambassador Huckabee shared his vision

for expanding bilateral tourism cooperation and reaffirmed the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to ongoing dialogue and joint initiatives designed to encourage more Americans to experience Israel firsthand. Improving air connectivity emerged as a top strategic priority during the discussions. Michael Itzchakov, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, emphasized the vital importance of expanding direct flights between major American cities and Israel. He detailed the ministry’s active efforts to encourage international carriers to resume services and launch new non-stop routes, noting that robust flight availability is the single most important catalyst for rapid tourism recovery. Echoing these priorities, David Fattal, Founder and Owner of the Fattal Hotel Group, underscored that tourism remains a cornerstone of the Israeli economy, with the United States standing as its most significant source market. Fattal pointed out that the return of global airlines, expanded flight capacity, deeper outreach

to travel agencies, and continued investment in hotel infrastructure are crucial to unlocking growth. Emphasizing the broader impact of every journey, Fattal remarked that each American tourist visiting Israel represents a genuine expression of confidence in the country, its economy, and its future. Addressing international perception, Yossi Fatael, CEO of the Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association, noted a distinct contrast between public perception abroad and on-the-ground reality. Citing objective data and global security rankings, he observed that statistical measures demonstrate Israel remains remarkably safe for travelers- often outperforming major European and American urban centers. However, overcoming media-driven perception remains a critical priority for encouraging prospective visitors to make the trip. Participants also discussed the importance of continuously reviewing travel advisories to ensure they accurately reflect evolving conditions on the ground.

This is not the reality you see on the ground.” “There is a reticence and fear of coming to Israel in the travel industry even though everyone is eager to come,” said Richard Liverance, marketing director for the Israeli Ministry of Tourism in Los Angeles. “They are just waiting for the right time for things to settle down.” With a tenuous ceasefire now in place, tourism from the United States was up 15% in July compared with the same month last year, with Americans making up one- third of all tourists entering Israel last month. “As a Jewish American, life in the U.S. has become scary with every day another antisemitic incident and a lot of us asking where are we going to go,” said Dana Rasof of Exclusive Travel Partners in the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, who was last in Israel a quarter-century ago.

Israel Tourism Sees Promising Revival as Q1 2026 Revenues Jump 15% Year-Over-Year

reflects a 15.30% rise from $634 million in Q1 2025 and a 52.29% surge from $480 million in Q1 2024, further underscoring the broader stabilization of incoming travel infrastructure. The aviation sector is also reflecting this gradual rebound. Israeli airlines reported $70 million in revenue from international visitors during the first quarter of 2026. This figure represents a slight increase from $69 million in Q1 2025 and a 55.56% increase compared to $45 million in Q1 2024. As global carriers continue to restore flight schedules and expand direct routes to Tel Aviv, local hospitality leaders remain confident that enhanced accessibility will continue to drive visitor numbers upward throughout the remainder of the year.

The $718 million total marks a 14.88% increase over the $625 million generated in the first quarter of 2025, and a substantial 51.80% jump compared to the $473 million recorded during the same period in 2024. While the industry continues its multi- year journey toward pre-crisis benchmarks—with Q1 2023 revenue having reached $1.331 billion—the steady climb highlights renewed momentum across hotels, tour operators, and local businesses nationwide. When factoring in overall economic activity from non-resident visitors and foreign workers, Israel’s total travel-related revenue reached $731 million in the first quarter of 2026. This

Leadership Transition Ahead for Israel’s Hotel Association as President Eli Cohen Prepares to Step Down

American Travelers Begin Their Return to Israel as Tourism Sector Shows Early Signs of Recovery

As the Israeli hospitality sector navigates crucial recovery efforts, the expected departure of its respected association president at the end of 2026 sparks key discussions about the future of industry leadership

Despite years of security challenges and flight restrictions, a growing number of U.S. visitors are making their way back to Israel, driven by family milestones, solidarity, and renewed confidence

I srael’s hospitality industry is preparing for a significant leadership change as Eli Cohen, President of the Israel Hotel Association, is expected to conclude his tenure by the end of 2026. Cohen was originally scheduled to step down earlier in April, but he accepted requests from hotel owners and industry leaders to extend his term by several months to maintain executive stability during a critical period. Having successfully guided the organization through challenging times, Cohen now plans to move on to his next professional endeavors. The upcoming departure of the highly regarded leader reopens a recurring strategic question for Israel’s hotel sector: whether to appoint a prominent figure from outside the industry or return to electing an insider raised within hospitality ranks. Recent leadership terms, including those of Amir Hayek, Avi Nissenkorn, and Cohen himself, followed a

model of recruiting executive talent from the broader public and business sectors. Earlier eras were led by veteran hoteliers such as Eli Gonen, Ami Federmann, and Avi Ella. As the association prepares to select its next leader, members will weigh the benefits of external political and corporate acumen against deep, hands- on hotel management experience. Industry observers note that the exact timing of the transition could still adapt depending on broader national developments. With upcoming national elections scheduled for October 27 and a new government formation process to follow, political and economic stability will play a direct role in the timeline. If the incoming government requires further dialogue to ensure the hospitality sector remains a national priority, Cohen may consider remaining in his role temporarily until the political and economic landscape fully stabilizes.

I srael’s tourism industry is witnessing the first modest signs of recovery as American travelers gradually return to the country. Following an extended period of regional instability since late 2023, recent data points to a steady upward trend in incoming visitors from North America. According to Israel’s Ministry of Tourism, over 32,000 U.S. tourists arrived in June, followed by more than 36,000 in July. American travelers now account for roughly one-third of all international entries into Israel, reflecting a resilient bond between U.S. visitors and the Jewish state. This gradual resurgence comes after an exceptionally

previous years. While overall visitor numbers for the year remain low compared to historic averages, the steady rise in North American arrivals brings a welcome boost to hotels, tour guides, and cultural sites across the country.A major factor currently shaping the recovery is airline capacity and flight availability. Direct routes remain limited as major U.S. carriers gradually update their flight schedules, with full service expected to rebuild over the coming months. In the meantime, many travelers are reaching Israel through European transit hubs or by booking direct flights with Israeli carriers. As more international airlines prepare to resume regular schedules, travel industry experts anticipate a smoother journey and more competitive airfares for incoming tourists. For many returning visitors, the decision to travel is deeply personal.

Haifa Unveils Ambitious $1 billion Waterfront ‘Strip’ with Hotels and Moving Walkway

At its center would be an expanded convention and exhibition complex,

alongside new hotels, commercial areas, entertainment venues and a large arena. The project’s defining feature is intended to be continuous pedestrian connectivity across an area that is currently divided between major transport hubs, commercial sites, sports facilities and the coastline. Visitors arriving at Haifa’s Hof HaCarmel railway station or adjacent bus terminal would enter a covered, air-conditioned circulation system featuring a moving walkway similar to those used in major airports. The route would connect the railway station with the convention center, planned arena, hotels and the beach. Above it, planners envision a shaded elevated promenade modeled in part on projects such as New York’s High Line.

H aifa is advancing an ambitious multibillion-shekel plan to transform the city’s southern entrance into a continuous business, tourism and entertainment district inspired by urban “strip” models in cities including Las Vegas, Singapore, New York and Barcelona. The project, being promoted by Haifa Municipality and the city’s economic development corporation, is still in the planning and feasibility stage. Initial estimates put its cost at 2.5 billion to 4 billion shekels, roughly $770 million to $1.2 billion. The plan would expand the existing convention center complex from about 76 dunams (19 acres) to roughly 130 dunams (32 acres) and add around 191,000 square meters (2.06 million square feet) of new construction.

The proposed redevelopment would expand Haifa’s southern gateway to 130 dunams, add 191,000 square meters of construction, 750 hotel rooms and a 10,000-seat arena
