Golf Course Department J.R. Irwin, Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Entering the month of March, the chilly weather fronts are finally behind us.
Looking ahead to the months of March, April, and May, we typically experience very warm temperatures with little precipitation. Until rainy
season arrives, we will be gradually increasing irrigation application frequencies and amounts to the golf course as the turf demands, yet remain diligent regarding water consumption as per our allowable water usage permit. Expect increased hand and sprinkler watering events during golf play to tackle stubborn, dry areas that will periodically appear, and further expect lake water levels to slowly decline. We are at the peak of the golfing season and our Golf Maintenance department is committed in providing optimal playing conditions however challenging the weather may be. Should we encounter extreme drought conditions in the coming months, I will notify the community as to possible cart-access restrictions should they be necessary at that time. Happy golfing and best of luck to all who are participating in the club championships!

The Impressionist master, Claude Monet, is one of the world’s most beloved artists. Monet planted gardens wherever he lived, but his masterpiece was Giverny, where he spent more than half of his long and very productive life. The beautiful gardens he created at Giverny were a never-ending source of inspiration for Monet as we will discover in this class by looking at photos of the gardens and how Monet translated them into beautiful works of art. archaeological site, a massive shell mound site extending across more than 100 acres from the mangrove coastline. The Calusa were once the most powerful people in all of South Florida. For many centuries they accumulated huge shell mounds, engineered canals, and sustained tens of thousands of people from the fish and shellfish found in the rich estuaries west and south of Fort Myers. All that is left of their culture today is a dwindling number of shell mound sites dotting the estuarine landscape between Charlotte Harbor and the Ten Thousand Islands region of the Everglades. Walk the trails with a knowledgeable tour guide. Please, wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water. Masks will be required in all indoor areas.

Dr. Thomas Cimarusti, of Florida Gulf Coast University, is a current professor of Music History.
Animals have a honed sense of danger, so when wildfire occurs, most animals sense it and can run away or stand in streams to avoid the hazard. Join Jayne Johnson as she discusses how wildlife responds to disasters and controlled burns here in Florida. Fires are a necessary part of life for some wildlife, stimulating new growth, fungi and mushrooms that produce spores, and some plants needs a fresh area to flourish. Jayne Johnson is a Wildlife Assistance Biologist for the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

‘ A Short History of the Planet Earth ’ by Professor Adrian Kerr Friday ~ April 8th 2:00 PM Large Card Room $10 per person
When we gaze into the sky at the moon and the visible planets we often wonder about the origin of our solar system, the galaxies and the universe itself. Science cannot confirm who created the universe; this has been left to religion to explain. However, we continue to remain curious as to how and when our unique planet Earth and our satellite, the moon, were formed. It has only been in our lifetime that science has been able to demonstrate that it all started with the ‘ Big Bang ’ 14 billion years ago, the timescale is truly mind stretching. We will follow the fascinating story of how the universal gas and dust clouds formed, how stars were born and died, how our sun collected the majority of the matter in our solar system, how the Earth became a molten ball and then cooled. We will discuss how a stray planet collided with Earth and the molten debris created then formed the moon. We conclude by discussing how our constantly changing planet produced water, life and oxygen and how on three separate occasions, life on earth almost became extinct allowing other creatures to rise and dominate our world. Please sign up with the Lifestyle team for this presentation. The money Professor Kerr raises from his talks goes to help the post - grad archaeology students in Luxor with expenses. Part of their work is copying the writings on the temples before the weather destroys them completely. Post - grad students get no grant assistance so this is much appreciated. Adrian spends much of his free time providing talks to communities around Fort Myers for this purpose. He ’ s a passionate historian and Egyptologist.

RANGER GRAM — SPEED OF PLAY
Please refer to the new rules from the golf booklet recently published by the Association. Bottom line: please move along, don ’ t waste time. Limit your efforts to find balls to two minutes. Be aware that more people are trying to play during the day. We all need to work together to allow maximum volume of golfers to enjoy our new golf course.
