Irish Hospice Foundation
Portuguese Coastal Camino – Oia to Santiago de Compostela, Spain
Sep 30th – Oct 7th 2026
Make every step count by walking the last 106km of the Portuguese Coastal Camino in support of Irish Hospice Foundation
An Incredible Journey
We will also provide you with a training plan on registration and plan to host a training walk and information event for all participants in July/ August. Our route spans the last 106km of the Portuguese Coastal Camino. Walk 106km of the Portuguese Coastal Camino, from Oia to Santiago de Compostela, Spain (the minimum required to earn your Compostela). This scenic route takes you along rugged coastal paths, through forests, charming villages, and historic towns, with glimpses of Romanesque chapels, ancient crosses, and other reminders of pilgrims who have walked this path for centuries. You’ll journey through the beautiful region of Galicia, experiencing its unique culture, legends, and gastronomy, from fresh seafood to the famous Padrón peppers. Your walk concludes in the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela, where the magnificent cathedral awaits - the perfect reward for your pilgrimage with purpose.
Why Walk the Camino? Walking the Camino can be incredibly rewarding and fun while also providing great exercise. It is an amazing journey full of culture, history and stunning landscapes. By joining the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) Camino Challenge you will not only be embarking on a personal challenge, but you will also be supporting people nationwide who are facing dying, death and bereavement by helping to raise funds for the work and services of IHF. How Fit Should I Be? The Camino is not supposed to be a boot camp but rather an enjoyable experience! You do not need to be in “world-class” shape, but we recommend you prepare yourself to be able to walk distances of approximately 20km to 25km per day. It is important to remember that nobody is expected to complete a day’s walking in one go. Each day will be split into two, with carefully selected breaks to allow participants to relax, get a drink or catch up with the rest of the group.
Highlights • Walk breathtaking coastal trails with endless ocean views.
• Step back in time through storybook villages and ancient chapels. • Wander through peaceful forests steeped in legend and tradition. • Savor the flavours of Galicia, from fresh seafood to the famous Padrón peppers. • Explore the magnificent cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. 2 Camino Challenge 2026
Our Guide Company Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) is partnering with UWalk.ie for our 2026 Camino Challenge. UWalk.ie is Ireland’s leading expert in walking holidays, specialising in unforgettable journeys along the Camino de Santiago.
For this special trip, they have carefully planned the route, ensuring comfortable accommodations and seamless logistics for a stress-free adventure. The journey will conclude with two nights in the historic city of Santiago de Compostela. Throughout the week, two local guides will accompany the group, providing support and sharing their in- depth knowledge of the region. Here’s what some of our supporters have to say about taking part in previous IHF Camino Challenges
I loved every minute of it and thought it was well organised. I think Irish Hospice Foundation has done a fantastic job putting the event together and were so supportive and friendly... it was a pleasure to be part of such an amazing group partaking in such an important charity event.
The trip was fantastic. An amazing group of people who offered lots of support, camaraderie and laughter… The route was well serviced and had amazing scenery. I loved every minute of it.
I knew it would be a very special week; but it surpassed even my highest expectations. It reassured me as to the goodness of the human heart...
Sharing stories, challenges & people’s life experiences, great for the soul.
