COLLEGE FOR THEIR CHILDREN

Approximately 25,000 children have lost a parent in the military over the last 35 years. Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation works to ensure a college education for military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. Since our founding in 2002, we have awarded over $51 million in support to over 2,200 children of our fallen, including 952 graduates. Your support makes it all possible.

THIS YEAR, WE COMMEMORATED THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TERRIBLE EVENTS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 . AS WE HAVE EVERY DAY OF THE PAST TWO DECADES, WE REMEMBER AND HONOR ALL THOSE WE LOST ON THAT DAY AND IN THE LONG YEARS SINCE. WE ARE AGAIN HUMBLED BY THE DEDICATION AND SACRIFICE MADE BY SO MANY OF OUR CITIZENS WHO CONTINUE TO STEP UP EVERY DAY TO KEEP US SAFE.

ANNUAL REPORT 2021 | 1

Dear Friends & Patriots,

It is incredible to look back and realize that it’s been now more than two decades since the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Our world was transformed the instant the first plane hit the north tower, and the consequences still reverberate twenty years later.

Millions of American troops served in Afghanistan, Iraq and dozens of oth- er countries during the Global War on Terror. They sacrificed life, limb and spirit during a grinding and ambiguous fight. But they accomplished their mission – no terrorist has since struck our homeland. But the personal toll of their service was tremendous. Even in the last days of our presence in Afghanistan we saw why our mission at Children of Fallen Patriots remains so vital – Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum died for his country 18 days before his daughter Levi was born. Thanks to your patriotism and love of our military and their families, Levi will one day re- ceive the college education her father would have wanted for her. You are a key part of mak- ing her dreams come true and for that I am sure her father is profoundly thankful. The parallelism with our founding is also striking. 32 years ago, Sergeant Delaney Gibbs was killed in combat in Panama three months before his daughter was born. She is the reason Children of Fallen Patriots came to be and the reason that Levi will one day attain her college dreams. We pray that 30 years from now that cycle of hope will continue to lift up the chil- dren left behind by the inevitable cost of maintaining liberty. Each and every one of you who have joined our cause is a patriot serving our great nation. You have joined the tradition of service that animates the members of our armed forces. You are ensuring that Rylee and our other fallen heroes will always be honored by their fellow Americans. Cynthia and I are moved beyond words by your friendship and support!

Morgan Belser Jacksonville University ‘22 DAUGHTER OF US ARMY CAPTAIN DONNIE BELSER

M organ Belser is the daughter of fallen U.S. Army Captain Donnie Belser. “My dad was my entire world, we did almost everything together,” she explained. “He was very loving and al- ways talked me through the bad times and I knew everything was going to be okay.” Morgan was only seven years old when he passed away. With the help of Children of Fallen Patriots Founda- tion (Fallen Patriots), Morgan is studying psychology and dance at Jacksonville University. “My goal is to be a pediatric dentist or orthodontist because I want to ensure children are not scared or dread going to their next appointment.” She would also love to have a side job dancing, which is her true passion and has guided her through dark times. “My Dad started my dance career and took me to all of my first classes. When he died, I felt like I could not do anything anymore, but dance helped me come out of that and pushed me to pursue it even harder.” Morgan is a member of United We Dance, an orga- nization where women come together to teach each other different styles of dance without judgment. Her goal in life is to inspire others to do what they love. When asked what advice she would give to others going through a similar experience, Morgan says, “Sometimes it feels like no one is feeling the pain that you are in but there are more people going through the exact same thing that you are going through. There is always someone to talk to and you might just not know it at that time. Surround yourself with peo- ple and things that make you happy!” “My Dad would be proud of me for making it this far in my academic career. Fallen Patriots has given me opportunities I did not even know I had!”

IDENTIFYING CHILDREN

FUNDING THE GAP

Even after every other source of aid is pieced to- gether, a persistent gap of about $25,000 per child remains for the total cost of college. With over 52% of surviving families making less than $50,000 per year, that gap can be unsurmountable. That is where Fallen Patriots steps in.

Identifying all 25,000 students who need help is one of our primary strategic goals. We believe our database is as big or bigger than any in our space. We work with the VA, the Department of Defense, military units and other military charities to identify students. We will not rest until we find them all and connect them with the help they deserve and need.

C aitlin Rowe is the daughter of fallen U.S. Marine Corps Major Alan Rowe. He was killed in action September 3, 2004. His loved ones say he was humble, strong, smart and hard-working. Caitlin says, “He loved the Marine Corps and had the respect of his Marines and his superiors.” With the help of Children of Fallen Patriots, Caitlin is studying environmental engineering at the University of Southern California. “I thought I would try to find a field where I can take math and physics and do something that contributes to society’s well-being,” explains Caitlin, “Be it sustainability for our environment, or urban plan- ning which allows our natural environment to be pre- served, I am looking forward to making a difference.” Caitlin takes solace in knowing her father was proud to serve his country. “I know how much serving our coun- try meant to him, and that gives meaning to his death. I know he died doing something he loved and believed in, which makes me proud he was serving our country in the military,” Caitlin says. Caitlin credits Children of Fallen Patriots support for helping make college transition easier. “I was able to get into a top school at a private university,” she says. They even helped with the purchase of a computer as well as college tuition.

DEDICATED BOARD

KEY PARTNERSHIPS

We are honored to have on our Board many accom- plished executives who are passionately dedicated to servicing military families. They come from the world of the military, media, operating companies, and fi - nance. They are united in their desire to give back to those who gave all for their country. This year, we wel- comed four new members to our Board.

We look to establish win-win partnerships with great companies to increase the level of support and aware- ness around the importance of the Fallen Patriots mission. We are immensely grateful for the support of organizations like the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foun- dation, who not only provide generous donations, but also inspire others to contribute as well.

“Children of Fallen Patriots makes a tremendous difference, not just monetarily but emotionally. Our families take great comfort in knowing that people still care about them and that a friendly face will be there to support their educational aspirations.” —HOLLY PETRAEUS
