At Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC), our goal is to put our patients at the center of everything we do. When BBAHC patients are highly satisfied with the quality care they receive here, they recommend us to their friends and family. BBAHC employees relate to patients, anticipate their needs, and understand culturally significant differences. Everyone here is expected to respect the individual and treat those we serve as if they are our family. To ensure access to high-quality care, BBAHC has designed an efficient regional health care network to meet the needs of everyone in our service area. Our network includes the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation campus — home to Kanakanak Welcome

Hospital, a regional Critical Access Hospital; the Dillingham Community Health Center Clinic; Bristol Bay Counseling Center; the H. Sally Smith Building, which houses the regional dental facility; and Jake’s Place, a regional treatment facility. We operate 21 village clinics, staffed primarily by Community Health Aides, and offer a wide range of programs and services that support health and well-being. We welcome you to join us in a place of unrivaled natural beauty, where traditional ways of life keep our minds and bodies whole, and where our cultural values have sustained our health and wellness for generations. We are honored to be entrusted with your health care needs.

Serving the People of Bristol Bay

BBAHC’s service region is a federally designated Medically Underserved Area and Health Professional Shortage Area, meaning there is a shortage of health care services overall. As a tribal health care organization, BBAHC manages Indian Health Service (IHS) health care facilities in region. Within this context, BBAHC has established itself as a recognized health care provider throughout Bristol Bay, offering a wide range of health and social services.

Accessible, quality health care for all Core value

Quality Care BBAHC is accredited by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission sets standards for healthcare quality and patient safety. Having this accreditation signifies that we meet or exceed rigorous standards for patient care and safety. As a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant recipient, BBAHC operates Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) throughout the region. All of BBAHC’s community-based clinics are FQHCs, providing primary care and preventive services regardless of your ability to pay.

Patient Handbook | 7

Services are available to all individuals in the region, including IHS beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries.

FAQ

Who is an IHS beneficiary?

An IHS beneficiary is an Alaska Native or American Indian (AN/AI) eligible for services from facilities operated by IHS or contracted to a federally recognized tribe. To be eligible for the IHS health care program, a person must be AN/AI and belong to the Native community served by the IHS program. Can non-beneficiaries get care at BBAHC? Yes. BBAHC is a community-based health care organization that provides comprehensive primary and hospital care to all community members.
